My Darling

Chapter Five

“What do you need to tell us, Vic?” Mike asks.

Oh fuck. I have to tell them now. No, I can’t. They’ll hate me. They’ll think I’m a monster. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. No, they can’t know. I can’t go through this. Fuck, what did I do? No. No. No. NO.

“I-I-I, uh.” I stutter like an idiot, trying to come up with a lie but nothing was coming to mind.

“I’m going to check on Max.” I say quickly and run out of the room and up the stairs.

Max’s POV(when she walks up to her room)

I slam my door shut behind me. No words can express the anger I feel right now. I feel the need to start breaking shit. But instead, I run over and grab a pillow from the bed and let out one big, long, and loud scream.

After I’m done, I felt a bit lightheaded. My vision started fading into black a little and everything felt like a dream. I took a seat on my bed before I fell.

As I was sitting there, I thought about what had happened back in the past. The first time I was in Vic’s care…

“What were you thinking?!” I hear Mommy scream at the short man. She said he was my daddy but I’ve never seen him before. “The ONE time I put her in your care and this shit happens!”

“It was an accident!” The short man yells at Mommy.

“This was more than an accident, Vic!” Mommy yells back. “She could’ve been killed!”

“But she wasn’t! She’s perfectly fine!” The shor- uh… what was his name? Vic. Vic yells.

“She isn’t perfectly fine, God dammit! She was m-” Mommy stops what she was going to say and stared at Vic. She rubs her face with both her hands and turns around with one hand covering her eyes.

“Fuck.” I hear her whisper. It made me feel weird because Mommy never uses these bad words.

“Jude-” Vic starts but Mommy interrupts him.

“You need to go.” Mommy tells him. “You can’t see her anymore.” Vic’s eyes go wide.

“You can’t do that.” Vic says. I could hear his voice break.

“Oh, but I can.” Mommy says. “I will do everything in my power to make sure that you will never see her again.”

I see a tear roll down Vic’s cheek.

“She’s my daughter, Jude. I need her!” Vic yells.

“But she sure as hell doesn’t need you!” Mommy yells back.

“You won’t do this. She needs a father in her life!” Vic yells again.

“I agree with you there, Victor. She does need a father.” Mommy says. “But that roll will NOT be fulfilled by you.”

Vic slowly walks over to Mommy.

“Please don’t do this.” He whispers and lightly grabs Mommy’s hand but she yanks it away and takes a step back.

“Don’t you dare touch me.” She says. “Get out. This will be the last time you see Maxine.”

“Jude-”Vic starts, but he never finished.

“Fuck off, Vic! Go and have a perfect life with your whore and leave me and my daughter alone.”

A few tears escape Vic’s eyes before they land on me, followed by Mommy’s. I was trying my best to hide behind the door.

“Maxine? What are you doing up?” Asks Mommy. She looked so tired.

“Yelling is loud, Mommy.” I say and she chuckles as she walks over to me.

“I’m sorry my little sailor man.” She smiles. “Mr. Fuentes was just leaving is all.” Mommy picks me up and walks back over to where she was standing.

Mommy and Vic stare at each other. Mommy’s eyes were mean but Vic’s were begging. He breaks eye contact and looks at me. The begging left his eyes and it was filled with happy. But sadness, too.

“I’ll see you again, okay?” He asks but I just stare at him. If Mommy isn’t nice to him, that means he’s bad.

He reaches out to me but Mommy turns her body so that I wasn’t in his reach.

“It’s late, Mr. Fuentes. I think it’s time to go.” She says.

With one last begging look, Vic goes over to the door and walks out.

I hadn’t realized I was crying until I felt a few tears drop on my hand. I quickly wipe them away and take deep breaths.

That was the last time I saw Vic.

-Trigger Warning-

My mom had to go and take care of something so she left me with Vic. He took me to the park but he had a phone call and walked away somewhere while I was at the slides.

After a while, a man came and started talking to me. I was only seven at the time so I thought everyone was friendly. The man asked if I wanted to see a new toy he had bought for his daughter. Of course I said yes, so I walked with him to his car. When he opened the door to get the toy… he pushed me in. He started… touching me. He stopped when he heard Vic calling for me franticly. He pushed me out and left me on the street as Vic came running and holding on to me tightly. When we got home, I told my mom what had happened. I didn’t think it was a big deal. But now, I know. It was probably the scariest thing for my mom to hear.

-Trigger End-

I was about to get up from my bed and to the bathroom but a knock at the door stopped me.

“Who is it?” I ask, my voice cracking.

The door starts opening slowly and a moment later Vic walks in.

I quickly wipe the tears off my face before I speak.

“What do you want?”I say bitterly.

“Were you crying?” He asked and I felt my cheeks heat up from embarrassment.

“So what if I was? Why would you care?” I snap at him and his face fell.

“Why would I- Of course I care. I’m your father.” He says and I feel myself get even more angry and upset.

“You know, there’s a difference between a father and a man with a child.” I say, fresh tears brim my eyes but I wouldn’t let them fall.

“What?” He asks confused.

“A father is supposed to be there with you. A father is supposed to make sure that his child feels loved. Not forgotten.” I say and I see tears in his eyes.

“A father is supposed to know at least what your favorite color is. What is my favorite color, Vic?” I ask and he just stares at the ground next to my feet.

“My favorite show? Movie? What my fears are? What I like to do Saturday mornings?” I continue. “You know nothing about me because you weren’t. There.

“I’m sorry.” Vic whispers and finally looks at me. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there. I wanted to be there but your mother wouldn’t let me see you.”

“You never tried to see me.” I say to him and a tear rolls down my cheek.

“Please just go.” I say and walk over to my bathroom, closing and locking the door behind me. A few moments later I hear my door open and close.

Notes

I edited the ending to this chapter quite a bit so I'm not sire if it's shorted or longer...
