Without You There Is No Me

Eight

There's not very many days left of my time in England. I'll be going back to San Diego soon. I still haven't gone to see the pub or where I died. I think part of me is scared to. But this is why I came here. I don't have much of a choice.
Everyone was with me as I walked through the village. Carrie had came too. She's been spending a lot of time with us. I almost feel bad for leaving her. I saw the pub and had to stop walking. Everything had shifted. I couldn't see properly. My vision had turned black a white.
"Vic?" I said urgently.
"I'm here. I'm right here." he told me. I could feel his tight grip on my hand and hear his voice. But I couldn't see him.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"Standing right next to you, Han'."
"Why can't I see you?"
"I don't know." Vic said.
"What can you see?" Jess asked.
"Small shops and people. There are men. They're riding a horses with carts."
"Do you see the pub?" Jaime asked.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Are you okay, Carrie?" Tony asked her.
"Yeah, I feel nothing." she reassured him.
"Han', you need to calm down, okay?" Jess asked.
"I'm on my own." I muttered.
"You're not!" Vic rushed. "I'm right here, just like I promised."
"This happened to Aidan when we went to Rome. He could see the Romans wailing swords and blood everywhere. You're just seeing it how it used to be. You can't see anything that's new, like us. But we're still here." Jess reassured me.
"Okay." I nodded. I walked got he pub and walked inside. I felt someone pulling me over to sit down. I sat down and looked around.
Suddenly I heard a tearing sound. Then something dropped from the floor. I saw a body lying in a pool of blood. I gasped and looked at the face. I knew her. I could see her. It was Elsie. I want we to get up and save her but it was too late. A man had rushed to her and was holding her limp, lifeless body in his arms. But she was gone, no matter how hard the man screamed.
My head snapped back and I closed my eyes. I could see the pub again, but this time it was inside my head. It was a memory. I saw Elsie's body on the floor. Then the door was opened. A man ran in. I recognised him, he was Daniel - Elsie's person. He left her.
I marched forward and glared at him. He was crying and sobbing. But I didn't feel any sympathy for him. He had caused this. He knew of the consequences when he left her. "You have no right!" I yelled at him. "Leave, please."
"No." he shook his head. "No. No. No. Please, we need to help her." he sobbed. Daniel fell to the floor and screamed. The sound was horrifying. It was the sound a parent makes when they find their child dead. It was a sound of pure disgust and hatred. Not at her, but at himself. He knew he had caused this.
"She's dead." I muttered. "You knew you would find her this way! But you chose your parents over her! You brought this!" I spat.
"No, I can't take this. All the feelings that are drowning me. Make them leave, please, I beg you, Miss Charlotte." Daniel cried.
"Do you have any idea how she helped us?" I asked bitterly. "Elise and I grouped our people and protected them. We taught them how to live with this. Told them of their only hopes! But you have taken that away, Daniel. I think it is fitting that that weight lies forever on the shoulders she favoured so much."
"I would sooner drown myself in the lake of your grounds than live with this."
"So be it." I grimly. Then I turned around and left the pub.
My eyes opened and I could lift my head. Everything was normal. I was sitting in a normal pub. I saw the others and put my head in my hands. I couldn't control myself. Perhaps it was because I was more in tune with my past self, but I felt grief. It was heavy and tight and threatened to crush my ribs. I longed for Elise, for my friend.
At least I knew what we did. We gathered The Haunted tend taught them how to deal with the ghosts and demons. Then we educated them about their person and offered a safe place. That didn't matter to me now though. I felt so close to her, but she was gone. She was gone a long, long time ago.
I was crying now. I felt Vic wrap his arms around me and I cried on his chest. He stroked my hair gently and kissed my head.
"What happened?" Jaime asked.
"She's dead." I muttered, against Vic's chest.
"Who?" Mike asked.
"Elsie."
"Who's Elsie?" Tony asked.
"She was one of The Haunted. She helped Hannah help the others." Vic explained for me.
"I saw her body. I argued with her person. He threatened to kill himself and I didn't care."
"There must be a reason, Han'." Vic sighed.
"He left her. He left Elsie." I said staidly, pulling away to look at him.
"She died when he left?" Carrie asked and I nodded.
"This is what happens." I muttered.
"It's over." Vic soothed.
"Not for everyone else." I replied. "It's not over because it happening inside my head. It's not over for Jess because every time she goes home she sees Aidan's pictures and wants to tear her hair out. It's not over for Lauren because it's all she thinks about. It's not over for those people who are going through it alone." I rushed. "It'll never be over. That's why I need to help everyone." I said firmly. And right now I feel closer to my past self than I ever have.

Notes

Hey! What did you think? What about what Hannah saw? Do you think she could help people? What about Robin, what happened to him? What will happen to Carrie when they leave? :)
