Believe You Me

December 23rd-January 3rd

Mia was out for Christmas vacation, even though it never snowed here in San Diego. But I made sure to make it special for my little girl. Julie and I decorated the tree we bought and Mia got surprised on Christmas Eve when Casey dressed as Santa came in through the front door with Tony in tow with presents. The whole family had come together to celebrate along with my parents and Julie’s. Jaime and Tony left early, seeing as they were visiting their families.

On Christmas morning, Mia woke Julie and I up by screaming in our room and running in circles. “It’s Christmas!” She squealed, running to Julie and jumping on her. Julie pulled her to the bed, between the two of us and Mia laughed, finally relaxing. The three of us laid in bed for a while in silence, occasionally hearing Mia softly sing a song she learned from school. She finally jumped up grinning.

“I want waffles daddy.”

“Alright baby girl.” I smiled and got up from the bed, Julie shooting me a smile before she stretched her hand out at me. I grabbed it and she pulled me back to bed, softly kissing my cheek.

“Tell me you love me.” She smiled.

“I love you.” I grinned. Julie closed her eyes and laid back on the pillow.

“I love you too.” She mumbled. I softly placed a kiss on her lips, her returning it before I made my way to the kitchen.

The three of us spent Christmas at home, Mia playing with her new toys while I laid on the couch with Julie in my arms. She snuggled close to me, her head on my chest when her phone rang. She looked over and grabbed the phone, answering.

“Dr. Evans.” She spoke. I waited patiently before Julie smiled, thanking him. “He sends his regards from himself and his wife.” Julie laid her head back on my chest, softly hugging me with her thin arms.

We stayed in for a few days before both our parents, Vic and Casey joined us for New Years. We stayed up until three in the morning, telling jokes and talking about Julie and how she’s doing with the medication. She smiled and nodded, saying that everything was going good but she didn’t want to do all this anymore. When the family left, Julie went to sleep, claiming she was tired. I let her go, not wanting to stress her out with all the questions I had for her.

It was until two days later that I asked her, and it went downhill from there.

“Mike I don’t like to be on all this medication! I want to live normally and this isn’t helping!” Julie screamed at me.

“If you’re not on this, you die! What am I supposed to do without my wife with me anymore? Just continue on like nothing happened? What about Mia? She knows that you’re going to die!” I yelled back before Julie groaned.

“You knew what you got into when you agreed to date me as well as marry me, Michael!”

“I also knew that I had to do everything I had to do to keep you here with me! If chemotherapy will help you stay here longer, than that’s what it’s going to be!” Julie sighed heavily before a small cough caught our attention. We both turned, seeing Mia watching us bicker.

“Is mommy going to die daddy?” She asked. I stared at her, registering what she said.

“No baby, mommy isn’t leaving us yet.” I assured her.

“God damn it Michael.” Julie harshly whispered to me, walking to Mia and pulling her softly to her room. I went to bed, sitting on it for a long time when Julie came back, sitting next to me.

“You’re not the one dying, Mike. I don’t see why you’re the one freaking out like this.” She whispered.

“Because I don’t want to lose you.” I looked at her and Julie smiled, shaking her head lightly.

“Baby, I love you and you love me. You have a band, fans, and a daughter. All I have is you and Mia. I accepted the fact that I’m going to leave behind my daughter and my handsome husband.” She nudged me softly.

“I don’t see how any of this is funny.”

Julie stayed quiet, watching me before her forehead rested on my shoulder. “It’s hard, but you need to accept it too.” We stayed like that for a while, my arm wrapped around her shoulders, Julie pressed into my side. I pulled my shirt off, tossing it on the ground before taking my jeans off and pulling on some sweats. Julie changed into one of my shirts and laid on her side, me right in front of her and my arm wrapped around her protectively.

“I’ll try, but until then, just deal with us doing this.” I whispered. Julie sighed and nodded.

Notes

I'm sorry for the late update. I didn't know the wifi would be fucked up at my aunts house, but I did write a bunch when I wasn't playing guitar hero with my cousin. :) Drop a comment and vote, thanks!
