Believe You Me

August 17th

Things in the hospital weren’t going like how I hoped. The doctors got rid of most of the cancer, but it seemed to have spread more. Julie was put under medications and regular chemotherapies. She was let out and was able to go with me to take Mia on her first day of school. She had on black skinny jeans with a shirt from our band.

“I want to wear you and Uncle Vic, Uncle Tony, and Uncle Jaime to school!” Mia pouted and Julie laughed, pulling out a shirt of ours. I watched from the doorway and chuckled while Mia slipped it on and grinned, looking at me. “Now everyone can see how cool my daddy is!” Mia ran to me and hugged me, Julie standing up and walking to me, holding my hand in hers. I gave Mia her grey backpack and she slipped it on, running out the door and cheering.

Julie and I walked behind her, hand in hand as Mia skipped and sang to some songs. “She’s growing up so fast.” Julie smiled, leaning to me. I helped her walk, seeing as she’s getting tired faster and I nodded.

“I know.” I nodded. I saw Mia running to the school, grinning back at us.

“Come on!” She grinned, jumping in place. Julie and I walked to her and she walked between us, pulling us so we could walk faster. We finally joined the other parents and the children, they all looked at me and I saw one looking at my arms with the tattoos. I smiled at them and Mia grinned.

“Bye daddy, bye mommy!” Mia ran into line and Julie giggled, shaking her head at our daughter. A woman with blonde hair walked out from the school and greeted the children, presenting herself.

“Hello class, my name is Miss Greene. I’m very happy to have such big boys and girls with me this year.” She grinned. She had the kids say goodbye to their parents and Mia ran to us, hugging both our legs.

“You’ll wait here, right mommy and daddy?” She asked, looking between Julie and I.

“Of course, baby girl.” I smiled, picking her up and kissing her cheek. Julie did the same and I set her down, joining the line again. Her teacher smiled at her and bent down.

“I like your shirt, you know, I’m a fan of that band.” She smiled. Mia grinned and turned to me.

“My daddy is the drummer!” Mia began gushing and Miss Greene laughed.

“Yes, I know.” She stood up and smiled at us, Julie smiling but squeezing my hand. I chuckled and kissed her forehead.

“I only have eyes for you.” I whispered against her forehead, earning a smile from her. Once the kids went inside the school, Julie and I walked hand in hand back home seeing her yawn.

“Tired?” I asked, having her shake her head.

“Nope, quite the opposite actually.” She looked at me. I smiled and unlocked the front door, having Julie step in first.

“Well, let’s see how much energy you have left when I’m through with you.” I grinned, chasing her to the bedroom.

Julie fell asleep after our lunch and I left a note saying I was going to pick up Mia. I walked to the school, seeing many teens waiting there. I decided to just pass by, hoping none of them would notice me. I reached the preschool section and Mia was barely coming out, seeing me and running. I picked her up and Miss Greene walked over.

“She bragged all about her daddy being in a band and how next summer she’s going on a tour with them.” Miss Greene smiled. I chuckled and tickled Mia.

“Are you telling everyone our secrets?” I asked Mia, having her laugh.

“Only Miss Greene!” She squealed. I laughed and looked at her teacher.

“We are going on a tour this summer, but we haven’t said anything. With my wife constantly being in the hospital, we still have to figure everything.” The teacher nodded and looked at Mia.

“She told me about Mrs. Fuentes having cancer. I’m very sorry about that.” I nodded and smiled, Mia and I saying our goodbyes. I suddenly got surrounded by teens and all of them taking pictures, most parents eyeing me. I signed a few autographs, took photos before saying goodbye and walking away with Mia.

Once in the house, Mia ran straight to the bedroom I shared with Julie and laughed, squealing with Julie. I walked in and leaned on the doorway, watching both of my girls smiling and laughing.
