Believe You Me

April

We got the baby home safe and secure. We had the baby’s room ready for her but there were still minor things to take care of. Mia spent most of the time sleeping and just wanting Julie to feed her. I still helped with whatever I could, like taking her a shower or putting her back to sleep at nights.

In no time, we found out that Selfish Machines was going to be released soon and we began to immediately fix the last minute things on the CD. Whether it was adding more guitar, drums, or backing vocals. We finally finished and began recording the music video to Caraphernelia, hoping to make it the album’s single.

Julie was pretty grouchy towards the end of April. She knew that the baby usually didn’t want me to hold her and she was losing sleep. I finally decided to take Mia off her hands and let her rest. “Mike, you don’t have to do this.” Julie started but I cut her off.

“Everything will be fine. They finished recording our part, now all they need to do is film the rest. I’ll watch her and so will the guys. Now, you go and take a bath, a nice long nap and do whatever it is wives do.” Julie smiled at me, kissing my cheek and handing me the diaper bag.

“Thank you.” She smiled.

The whole time we were recording, Mia was more entertained playing with the strings on Tony’s guitar, then on anything else. She would complain sometimes but I had her bottle and changed her diaper when she needed it. We all finally had our lunch break and I sat with Mia, Vic sitting next to me.

“She has my eyes!” Jaime chimed, sitting on my other side.

“She does?” I asked, looking at Mia’s eyes.

“They’re brown like mine!” Jaime grinned.

“Then she has my eyes too.” Tony joined in, taking Mia from my arms and cradling her. Casey sat next to him and we all talked, Mia being transferred from one person to another and she seemed to be enjoying it, especially when Jaime held her. She would just smile and
I felt my whole world brighten up.

I got home with Mia around eight, Vic coming along with us, and I set the diaper bag down, looking around the house. “Julie? Baby I’m home!” I called. I didn’t hear anything and thought that maybe she was asleep.

“Did she go out?” Vic asked.

“No, she would’ve told me.” I answered, going upstairs. I set Mia on her crib, lifting the bar up and locking it so she wouldn’t fall off. I walked across the hall to our room and opened it, seeing the blanket on the floor but no Julie. I got worried, walking back downstairs and knocking on the bathroom door.

“Julie?” Vic called; nothing.

“Honey!” No answer.“This isn’t funny baby, come on!” I walked to the back yard and saw her sitting on the lawn chair, facing the pool. I sighed in relief and leaned on the doorway.“You scared the hell out of me. Didn’t you hear me calling you?” I asked. Julie was quiet and I blinked a few times. “Julie, baby, come on.” I spoke. She didn’t even move. I couldn’t even move! I was rooted to my spot. I finally found the will to move and I approached her. She looked asleep; almost peaceful. I stared at her and before I knew it I was crying, holding her in my arms and screaming for her to wake up, while grabbing my phone. By this time, Vic was calling Casey.

“911, what’s your emergency?” The woman spoke.

“My wife, she won’t wake up. Please I need help right now!” I began pleading.

“Sir, we have your location. An ambulance should be there soon.” I hung up and held Julie in
my arms.

“Please don’t leave me baby. You can’t leave me yet, I’m not ready.” I whispered, holding her close to my body.

“The ambulance is close, come on, Casey will drive us there.” Vic urged me. I couldn’t move though, the thought of her leaving me was too much. I finally reacted when two men took her from me and I watched as they took her away. Casey parked behind the ambulance, Vic and I getting on while the ambulance sped off. In no time, we were driving off and then it clicked.

“Turn around! I left Mia!”

Notes
