Believe You Me

October-February

On our wedding anniversary, we had a concert. I spent the morning with Julie, making her breakfast, walking around the city of Chicago, and just being with her. I bought her a silver chain for her locket she had. Her eyes gleamed in happiness and she was ecstatic. That night, during the concert, Vic stopped halfway through the set and asked the crowd if they had enough.

“Seems like they want more.” Vic grinned, looking at us. “But first, we want to announce something.” Vic smiled, looking out into the crowd. “How many of you guys know what today is?” The crowd screamed and I shook my head, grinning at my older brother. “Give it up for the one year anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fuentes, and the little Fuentes!” Vic screamed, the crowd screaming louder. I saw Julie walking out from the side I got off my set, jumping off the ledge and meeting her halfway. Vic moved over and I helped her to the microphone which she was shy about.

“Thank you guys, you guys know us from the very beginning and most of you probably don’t know the whole back story on how Julie and I met, but instead of saying it again, just know that one day she won’t be here and I just want to live my life with her.” I turned to her and she was crying, looking up at me. I kissed her softly, smiling as she returned it. The concert continued and soon, it was time to leave. We got back home in the middle of November and relaxed, ready for the release of Selfish Machines.

We spent our birthdays at home, doing little things that made the day special from just watching TV and cuddling, to going to the backyard and sitting on the edge of the pool. On February 20th, I was in the kitchen Casey, Vic, Jaime and Tony in the living room while Julie took a nap in our room. I heard a faint cry and perked up, the guys pausing the show and listening.

"Mike!" I dashed to the bedroom and saw the sheets soaked and Julie holding her big belly. “Mike, I don’t think this baby is going to wait any longer.” I stared, still dazed as Casey ran in and assured her everything was fine as Tony ran to start the car.

“Holy shit, this baby doesn't want to wait.” Jaime laughed, rushing over and shaking me. I snapped out of it and turned to Vic who was grabbing the baby bag we had prepared.

“Let's get her to the car before the pain gets worse.” And with that, we left to the car.

Julie was rushed to the hospital, having nurses and doctors running around and trying to treat her. I was put on a blue rubber like suit to protect the babies from germs and I went in the room, Julie resting on the bed, taking deep breaths.

“How are you feeling?” I asked. She glared at me and soon Dr. Evans walked in.

“I got the call from Vic. Looks like I’m delivering the baby.” He announced, placing a face mask on.

“Get the kid out!” Julie screamed. Dr. Evans chuckled and she grabbed my hand, squeezing it really hard. “I hate you so much for putting me through this pain.” She half screamed, squeezing my hand tighter and I whimpered from the pain.

“They all say that, no worries.” Dr. Evans assured. “Alright Julie, I’m going to count to ten, while I do, you keep pushing. Once I say ten, you rest and take a few deep breaths, ready?”
Dr. Evans asked. Julie nodded and I rubbed her head.

“Come on baby, we made it this far.” I smiled.

“One, two, three four, five, six,” Dr. Evans began counting. Julie was pushing and I counted with him. “seven, eight, nine, and ten and breathe.” Julie took deep breaths and I noticed the nurse standing by.

After a few pushes, a cry was heard and Julie rested her head on the pillow, covered in sweat. I looked at the baby that the nurse held and she walked over. I cut the umbilical cord and they took the baby away to get washed up. Dr. Evans congratulated us and I walked over to Julie.

“Boy or girl?” she asked.

“A healthy girl.” I smiled. Julie returned it and sighed happily.

“About time.” She giggled. I grinned and kissed her softly. The nurse came back with the baby bundled up and a few papers.

“Here you both go. What are you going to name her?” She asked, handing Julie the baby. Julie looked up at me and we smiled, agreeing on the name.

“Mia Fuentes.” Julie spoke, looking at the baby.
