Believe You Me

January 21st

I woke up, ready to take on today and see my wife in the hospital. I got up, seeing Oliver on the floor passed out. I carefully walked around him and walked to the bathroom. Grabbing some clean clothes, knowing I needed to wash my clothes soon. I took a shower, getting rid of the smell of beer and smoke. I got out, drying myself and wrapping the towel around my hips. I brushed my teeth, getting the taste out and finally changing into my clothes.

I walked out, carefully walking past Oliver again and out to the lounge. I chuckled, seeing them all passed out and snoring. I saw Vic's phone on the counter and picked it up, putting it on silent. I quickly texted him, telling him where I was going and once it vibrated, I put it back on loud and left it on the counter. He’d read the text once he woke up.

I grabbed my wallet, Julie’s wedding rings and slipped mine on, walking off the bus and down to the main part of town. I stood by the curb, seeing cars pass by when a trolley stopped in front of me. I got on, paying my fee and getting comfortable. I stayed quiet, seeing a few people looking at my arms which had tattoos and I just ignored them. I looked in front of me, seeing a girl eyeing me. She winked at me and I looked away, ignoring her.

I saw my stop ahead and got off, walking a bit before reaching the other trolley stop. I saw the same girl following me and I sighed, rubbing my forehead. I leaned on a nearby building, ignoring her as she stood by me. "I love your tattoos." She spoke, looking at me.

"Thanks." I replied, seeing the trolley a few blocks away.

"Where you heading off to?" She asked, inching closer to me.

"To see my wife in the hospital." I answered, getting off the building and nearing the curb.

"Oh, I'm sorry, you don’t look like the type to settle down." She said as the trolley stopped in front of us and I shrugged.

"I don’t, but I did for her." I replied, paying my fee again and getting on. I sat on an empty seat and the trolley moved again. I stayed on for a good while, the trip being an hour and a half. I looked at my phone, seeing that it was almost 10 and I would get to the hospital in 15 minutes. I smiled to myself, seeing the hospital a few streets up and I sat up straight, eager to see Julie. Once the trolley stopped, I jumped out of my seat, thanking the man and ran to the hospital. I reached the front and walked in, seeing the security guard sitting behind the desk.

“Patient name?” He asked.

“Julie Fuentes.” I answered. He nodded and began looking through the computer again.

“What’s your relationship with her?” He asked, looking at me.

“I’m her husband.” He nodded, going back to the computer. He printed out something and gave me the slip of paper.

“It’s a visitor sticker, put it on so won’t get kicked out.” I nodded, going to the elevator and sticking it on my shirt. I waited as the elevator took me up and once the doors opened, I rushed past a few nurses and reached her room. I carefully opened the door and saw Julie sleeping on the bed, she looked so peaceful and I smiled. I stepped in, closing the door behind me and I walked over, to the bed, lying next to her and she snuggled into my side, still sleeping. I wrapped my arm around her shoulders, my hand resting on her back. I moved closer to her, getting comfortable and falling asleep.

I woke up to her moving, her hand grabbing my shirt and yawning. I rubbed my eye, looking down at her and smiled as her eyes fluttered open. She looked down at my shirt and her eyes followed it up to my face. “Good morning, beautiful.” I smiled. Julie grinned, throwing herself at me and hugging me tightly. I returned the hug just a tightly and she laughed, pulling back.

“Oh my god, Mike!” She kissed my cheek, nose, forehead, and saved my lips for last. “I missed you so much baby! I’m so happy you’re here!” She began holding me tightly and I couldn’t even move, let alone tell her to stop attacking me. I was enjoying it, actually.

“Okay, okay, baby! I missed you too!” I pushed her away, my mouth meeting hers in a feverish kiss. I heard someone clear their throat and we both turned to the door, seeing Dr. Evans standing by the door and casually looking at his clipboard.

“Sorry,” Julie apologized, looking down and blushing. I chuckled, holding her close and helping her sit up. She wasn’t hooked to any machines since the last time I was here and I felt relieved.

“It’s fine, no worries. It has been a while since both of you have seen each other so this is normal.” I smiled and when I look at Julie closer, I see that she had grown.

“Holy shit, aren’t you less than a month?” I asked, surprised that her stomach had grown. Julie giggled and rubbed my arm.

“We found out less than a month ago. I was pregnant around November so actually, we’re two months?” Julie said, calculating the days in her head. I smiled and she grabbed my hand, pressing it to her stomach. I grinned, rubbing it softly and laying my head on my pillow.

“If you don’t mind, Mr. and Mrs. Fuentes, I would like to tell you both something.” Julie and I looked at the doctor and he chuckled, setting the clipboard down. “I will be heading back to California in a few days and everything seems to be in top shape of course and Julie’s cancer seems to be tamed. It hasn’t grown and all the test results came back negative for it. So, Julie, Mike, you both are free to go.” Julie grinned, hugging me tightly and we waited as the other doctors made sure everything was fine.

I signed her out, holding her hand tightly in mine as she was rubbing her small but visible belly. We walked out, overjoyed on the thought of surprising Casey with his little sister. We walked a bit, getting to the trolley stop and waited.

“I missed you.” She whispered, holding my left hand with her right one and leaning to me.

“I did too.” I whispered back, letting her hand go and wrapping it around her shoulders, pulling her close. I was pretty tall, but she reached my shoulder and she rested her head on it.

“Especially at nights, when I was alone, with the TV on as just background noise.” She smirked and I chuckled, looking down at her.

“I’ll make it up for all those lonely nights.” She laughed and the trolley pulled up, allowing us to get in. I paid for both of us and we sat down, our hand intertwined as I looked at her hospital bracelet. “You hungry?” I asked. Julie nodded and I gave her a look. “I wasn’t talking to you, I was talking to the babies.” Julie rolled her eyes, laughing and I kissed her cheek. I looked at her hands, seeing her ring missing.

“I almost forgot,” I spoke up, reaching in my pocket. “I brought it with me.” I took out her engagement ring and wedding ring, placing it on her ring finger as she cuddled closer to my side.

“How are the guys?” She asked, looking up at me.

“Same as always, boring, waiting to see you again. We spend last night with Bring Me The Horizon and got wasted, since we have the day off today.” I answered, looking out the window. Julie nodded, closing her eyes. I felt her breath slow down and soon she was fast asleep on me. The trolley stopped and a few kids got on, one of them seeing me and gasping.

“You’re Mike Fuentes, from Pierce the Veil right?” She asked. The rest turned to look at me and I nodded, smiling. They paid for their ride, sitting by me and asking questions.

“We went to see you a few weeks ago but you guys weren’t going to play.” One of them told me. I thought back and nodded.

“Yeah, my wife got sick and I took her to the hospital on an emergency. But she got released today so everything should be fine now.” I smiled at them. “Are you guys going to see us play tomorrow?” I asked them.

“So far yeah, we’re taking the morning trolley over to the venue so we can get to the barricade and see you guys better.” Another girl spoke up. We talked a bit more about the band life when I saw our stop ahead.

“Julie, baby. We have to get off now.” I whispered, cupping her cheek. She yawned, her eyes fluttering open and I swear I fell in love again. “Come on, let’s go see the guys yeah?” I smiled. Julie nodded, standing up and me helping her.

“Oh, you’re both expecting!” A girl smiled.

“Yeah, two months in.” I grinned. “Only seven more months to go.” Julie smiled and we got off, saying bye to my fans. I had texted Vic to have the guys meet me in a local restaurant and they agreed, having no idea Julie was with me. We walked to the place, occasionally stopping since Julie saw a few things that caught her eye in the small shops.

The guys were happy seeing her arrive, each of them hugging her and congratulating her. We sat down, enjoying breakfast. I watched as she happily ate her pancakes and I ate my omelet.

Nothing could be better than this.
