One Hundred Sleepless Nights

Mothers- Take Two

There's something that will never fail to strike fear into my heart. 'I have something I need to tell you'. It's never good. When Mom told me that it was to tell me that she was going away to get help for her drinking problem. When Dad told me that it was to tell me he was going away for a few months to spend time with someone he loved very much a.k.a. The Thai Whore. When Austin told me that it was to tell me he was going in hospital to have open heart surgery.
Now Vic has told me that. What could he possibly have to tell me? He doesn't want me here. He doesn't want a baby. He's going to break up with me. He's got into hard drugs. He has a team of teenage prostitutes - all probably wearing t-shirts with his face on - ready and waiting.
I bit my lip as I looked at Vic. He sighed and tried to smile at me. It didn't reassure me at all. He isn't fooling anyone. Vic took my hand and I pulled away. I can't have anything happening, I might do something silly like get pregnant.
"It really isn't that bad." Vic soothed.
"That depends... If you're telling me you're leaving me for Kellin then that would be bad. But if you're only telling me that girl with the pink hair in the building opposite saw you with your junk out again it isn't that bad."
"She hasn't seen me with my junk out."
"She has." I countered.
"Has." I mumbled.
"Just shhh." Vic said.
"Okay." I rolled my eyes.
"You know when I had to go to the studio?"
"When Austin was eating his feelings and Kate broke up with Kellin when he was watching porn and my parents got back together and then everyone ended up here?" I asked.
"That's right. With everything going on and then what happened at the charity show I couldn't find a right time to bring it up."
"Bring what up?"
"After this album is recorded our contract at Fearless runs out. They're not offering us another one." he explained.
"No contract?" my eyes widened.
"No." he shook his head.
"No record label?"
"No." Vic sighed.
"So what are you supposed to do?!" I exclaimed. "What are you going to do, Vic?!"
"Calm down." he soothed.
"No, I will not!" I yelled. "My baby will have no money! We'll end up out on the street! Do you want your baby on my back while I'm seeing that magazine on the street that nobody buys?! I'll have to work at a strip club. How can I? I'm fat and I can't dance!" I rushed.
"Zee, you're being ridiculous. Just calm down. It'll be okay."
"It will?"
"I have money saved up. More than enough. We can still pay all of the bills and get everything we need. Then another label with sign us. Even if we have to wait a while it'll be okay. Our fans will still come to our shows."
"What if you gamble away all the money? Then you need gambling rehab. We won't be able to afford it."
"You're being stupid." Vic sighed.
"Stupid?" I asked and laughed humourlessly. "If I'm so stupid then you won't want anything to do with me or my stupid baby!" I mocked.
"Don't be like this, Zee! You're just trying to find a problem in everything. Of course I care about you and our baby. It's pairs, not just yours. You can't make a baby on your own, you know."
"You can if you use a turkey baster." I grumbled.
"Did you? Because I remember being there too and I don't recall a turkey baster."
"Shut up!" I screamed.
"No, I won't!" he yelled.
"You know what?" I asked dryly. "I'll just give the baby to Kate and I'll move to New York and you can get on with your life, without either of us!"
"I don't see why it's always Katelynne! For everything it's her. What about my mom? You haven't even met her!" Vic said angrily.
"And I don't want to! If your mom is anything like you then she must be an infuriating, arrogant, dishonest wanker!"
"Don't you dare talk about my mother like that! She's never done anything to you and is a fantastic mother. Much better than yours. She's always been there for me, I can't say the same for you. So don't you fucking dare say a word against her!" Vic spat. Shit he looks really mad now. His face is flushed red.
"Ugh fuck you!" I growled. Then I stormed off into the spare bedroom while Vic stormed off into our bedroom.

I turned to Mike and poked him in the arm. He looked back at me and rolled my eyes. "Where are you taking me?" I asked.
"Can't tell you." Mike smiled. He looked back to the road and tapped his fingers on the steering wheel.
"Come on." I urged.
"There's someone that would like to speak to you."
"Oh who?" I asked.
"That I can't tell you." he shrugged.
"Fine." I rolled my eyes.
Mike pulled into a driveway. He got out of the car and came round to my side. He opened my door and I got out, looking around. We were in the driveway of a house. It was a nice house. "Where the hell are we?" I asked.
"Just go in." Mike urged. He took my arm and led me to the door. He used a key to go inside and we went into a sitting room. I saw a woman waiting for us and I sat down on the couch. Mike smiled in encouragement and sat next to me, reclining back and throwing his feet up onto the coffee table.
"Feet off." the woman warned. Mike rolled his eyes and put his feet down.
"This is Zandra. Zee, this is my mom." he introduced us.
"Mom?" I asked and glared at him. He didn't.
"Vic's told me a lot about you." Oh he did. "You're very pretty. He told me you were."
"Oh, thank you, I guess. Sorry we haven't met before now." I rushed.
"So am I," she sighed. "Zandra, Vic came to see me yesterday. He told me that you've had a little misunderstanding."
"No misunderstanding," I shrugged. "Vic is a wanker and I hate him. I think that's a given."
"When Vic told me you were pregnant I was pretty shocked, to say the least. Part of me hoped you would get rid of the baby. It would certainly make things easier." I saw Mike's jaw tighten and he glared at the floor.
"Did Vic tell you how he wouldn't let me? How he asked me to keep the baby?" I asked flatly.
"He did." she nodded. "I feel guilty for ever thinking that now." she said softer and more... Mother like?
"You should." I snapped.
"Don't talk to her like that." Vic said. Oh great.
I looked to the doorway and saw him looking a little ruffled and windswept. If I wasn't still pissed off with him I might make an excuse to for my boobs to bump into his chest. Just to make him frustrated.
"Just what I need." I said dryly.
"Yeah." Vic muttered. He sat down on my other side so I was sandwiched in between the Fuentes brothers. Not as nice as it sounds.
"I don't want to speak to you." I snapped and looked at the floor.
"Zee, it's my baby too. We have to speak."
"You don't care about the baby." I crossed my arms moodily.
"What? Of course I do!" Vic rushed.
"You don't. All you care about if your hair." I mocked.
"You're just being stupid." he rolled his eyes.
"He's an idea, Vic. Why don't you ask your mother what she hoped for, then get back to me." I said tightly. "Mike can you drop me home?" I asked.
"Um sure." he said awkwardly and I stood up before I hurried out of the house.

Notes

Hey! What did you think? Zandra met Vic's mom. Will they meet again? Did you like her? What will happen next? Will they make up?
