Holding On Too Tight

Chapter Four

The week passed by so quickly and it was almost time for my date with Jaime. I did one last mirror check and made sure I looked perfect, I really liked Jaime and I didn’t want to mess things up. I walked downstairs and drank some water. I was starting to get really nervous. I sat down on the couch and pulled out my phone, it was already 7; he would be here any minute.

“Jaime hasn’t picked you up yet?” Lizzy went into the kitchen.

“No and I’m starting to get really nervous.” I rubbed my arm and looked down at the various magazines on the coffee table.

“Don’t be.” She patted my back. “He’ll love you.”

“Thanks Liz.” I hugged her.

“Hey are we going to make another video tomorrow?” She asked.

“I haven’t been working on any songs lately so maybe we can just upload the Bon Jovi cover we did a few weeks ago.” I shrugged.

“You didn’t upload that?” She asked.

“No, I didn’t feel like editing it.” I leaned back into the couch. I heard a knock on the door. I squealed and ran over to the door. “Hi.” I answered the door calmly.

“Wow Shay, you look great.” He smiled his perfect smile and his dimples showed.

“You do too.” I shared his smile.

“Are you ready to go?” He asked.

“Yeah I just have to grab my purse.” I went back over to the couch to grab my purse.

“Don’t keep her out too late.” Lizzy said.

“I won’t.” Jaime laughed.

“Stop embarrassing me mom.” I joked before leaving. “So where are we going?”

“Well I thought we could go to dinner and then see a movie.” He walked me out to the elevator.

“Sounds great,” I pressed the button and the door opened up. The elevator ride was quiet so I reached over and held Jaime’s hand. The door opened again and he walked me out to his car. He was so sweet and he opened the passenger door for me. I buckled myself in as he started up his car and drove down the street.

“How was your week?” He broke the silence.

“It was great, how was yours?” I asked.

“It was pretty cool.” He nodded. Of course this was happening, first date awkwardness. But it wasn’t even awkward, it was an awkward silence. Fuck this I’m going to get to know more about this boy.

“Hey, why didn’t you tell me you were in a band?” I asked.

“I didn’t tell you?” He scratched his head. “It must’ve slipped my mind.” He laughed and shook his head. “Well what do you do?”

“I write fashion and music articles for a local magazine.” I told him.

“What’s that like?” He asked.

“It’s pretty cool. I don’t have to go into work really early and I can work from home whenever. I pretty much just have to turn in a few different articles every month for a few options and then I work with a photographer to put some photos into it.” I nodded. “It’s a great job, I love it.”

“That sounds like a lot of fun.” He laughed. “That’s almost like band life; touring is the best part though.”

“Really?” I asked.

“Of course,” He said, “We get to go and perform almost every night and we get to meet fans.”

“Sounds like the life.” I thought about what it would be like, touring, living your dream every night. It sounded like a lot of fun, but I was already involved with music a lot already. Maybe Jaime was what I needed; we did share the same passion.

“You should come see us perform sometime.” He smiled. Dammit, I love his adorable smile.

“Alright, maybe I will.” I said. He parked the car and walked me up to the restaurant.

“Name,” the man in the front of the restaurant asked.

“Preciado, reservation for two.” He turned to me and smiled.

“Right this way sir,” the man guided us to the back of the restaurant that was dimly lit. There were a few candles on every table and it the whole setting of the room was very romantic. Jaime pulled the chair out for me and I sat down, he did the same.

“Wow Jaime,” I looked around the room again, taking all of it in. “This place is really nice.”

“Yeah, I thought you’d like it.” He smiled. “Oh and they have really good wine here. Do you prefer white or red?”

“I’m not really a wine person, but you just pick whatever’s best.” I said.

“Alright,” he looked over the menu for a little while before talking again. “What are you thinking about ordering?”

“I don’t know, maybe the pasta with crab?” I said.

“That sounds good, I was thinking about the steak.” He shrugged. The waiter came around and took the order for drinks, Jaime ordered some type of wine and we sipped it while waiting for the waiter to come back around. The second time he came to our table we ordered our food. It wasn’t long before the waiter came around with our food. It was weird that we weren’t talking all that much. But then again, we didn’t talk much at the club either, we just drank and danced.

“So what have you been up to lately?” I asked, deciding to break the silence.

“Well since we’ve been off tour, we’ve been writing and recording some music.” Jaime explained.

“For a new album?” I sifted through my food while I looked up at him.

“Not necessarily,” he picked up his fork, “Our lives just kind of revolve around music so we take every opportunity to make music.”

“You guys really love what you do huh?” I asked.

“It’s just awesome that we can do what we love for a living and kids come up to us and tell us that we saved their lives. I love them for that because music has saved our lives too.” A tear fell down Jaime’s cheek. I reached my hand across the table and put it on top of his. We shared a smile and ate our food.
