Holding On Too Tight

Chapter Three

I pulled up to my mom’s house and there was a pretty nice car sitting in the driveway. I parked and walked in through the front door. My mom was sitting on the couch with another woman around her age.

“Oh sweetie you came.” My mom got up to give me a hug. “This is Mrs. Perry; we’ve been friends for a while now.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” I shook Mrs. Perry’s hand and shared a smile with her.

“Oh you should meet her son.” My mom went into the kitchen.

“He’s probably eating something.” Mrs. Perry rolled her eyes. My mom came back out of the kitchen with someone familiar.

“This is-”

“Tony?” I was confused.

“Oh, hey Shay.” He smiled.

“You two know each other?” Mrs. Perry asked.

“Yeah I just met him last night.” I nodded.

“Where were you?” My mom asked. I don’t think she knew that I went out to clubs every weekend and got completely shitfaced every time… Shit, I need to think of something right now.

“Just out,” Tony said completely calm. Well that was easy enough, why didn’t I think of that?

“Why don’t you two just go talk or something?” Mrs. Perry started to shoo Tony out of the room and my mom grabbed my arm.

“I just thought you’d like him.” She smiled. “He seems like your type.”

“Mom,” I whispered, “I appreciate this, but I already met somebody.”

“Who?” Her voice went up.

“I’ll tell you about it later.” I followed Tony into the kitchen. “You hungry?” I asked.

“Oh, sure.” He sat down at the counter watching me look in the fridge.

“So if you didn’t eat anything, why were you in here?” I asked curiously.

“I just didn’t want to be interrogated by our moms.” He shook his head. “And I didn’t know you were Stacy’s kid.” I guess our moms were friends but I never met Tony for some strange reason.

“Yep.” I got some goldfish and poured them into a bowl.

“My mom just said that you were really pretty.” He laughed. “But you’re off limits.”

“Why’s that?” I blushed.

“Jaime won’t shut up about you.” Tony threw his head back.

“Really?” I blushed again. I felt like our moms were listening in to our conversation so I took his hand and led him outside. I let go of his hand so I could close the door and then I sat down on the porch swing. He was still standing by the door so I patted the empty space next to me, telling him to sit. “So what does Jaime say about me?”

“He just talks about how beautiful you are.” Tony laughed. “He’s not lying but he’s really over doing it.” I smiled, Jaime sounded so sweet! “Oh and Mike won’t stop talking to and about Lizzy. Vic just told them to ask you guys out already.”

“Who’s Vic?” I asked.

“Mike’s brother and the singer in our band,” Tony told me.

“You guys are in a band?” I asked.

“Yeah, Pierce The Veil. Jaime didn’t tell you?” Tony asked.

“No wonder he looked so familiar!” I exclaimed.

“Wow, I can’t believe that never came up.” Tony laughed. “Well what do you do?”

“I write a music and fashion column in a local magazine.” I started to eat the goldfish, then I held the bowl out to him so he could have some too.

“Oh that’s cool.” He smiled. “Well I play guitar, Jaime plays bass and back up vocals, Mike does drums, and Vic sings and does backup guitar.”

“I think I might have written something about you guys.” I scratched my head, trying to remember why I knew them.

“Yeah so are you and Jaime going out on Friday?” He asked.

“Yep,” I nodded. We talked about other things for a long time after that.

“Tony I’m leaving.” His mom yelled from the backdoor.

“Alright mom,” he got up. “Hey I don’t have your number.”

“Oh here,” I typed it into his phone and handed it back to him. I handed him my phone and watched him put in his phone number.

“See you later.” He left.

I wasn’t keeping track of time but we talked for two hours. I went back inside the house and said goodbye to my mom. Tony’s really funny and I’m surprised he’s still single. But he is kind of shy, so that’s probably why.

“So who did your mom want you to meet?” Ana asked when I got back home.

“It was Jaime’s friend Tony.” I put my keys on the table and took off my shoes.

“Your mom has connections.” Lizzy laughed. “Well Mike and I have a date on Saturday.”

“Oh cool, I have a sate on Friday with Jaime.” I told her.

“Where are you guys going?” She asked curiously.

“I don’t know.” I replied.

“Hmm, Mike told me our date was a surprise.” Lizzy shrugged.

“Well those boys like surprises.” Ana pulled out her phone.

“What are we having for dinner?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” Lizzy fell back onto the couch and rubbed her tummy.

“Nate said he was going to bring over Chinese food.” Ana got up and went into the kitchen to grab some plates and forks. Nate walked into the door and set the bag on the table.

“I brought Destery over too.” Nate said when he set the bag down. “How are you?” He kissed Ana.

“Better now,” she smiled.

“Hey guys.” Des walked into the door and set some soda down on the table.

“What’s up Des?” I got up to give him a hug. “I haven’t seen you in ages.”

“Nothing new,” he embraced me. “What’s up with you?”

“Finally feeling better after that hangover.” I let go of him and walked into the kitchen.

“Oh yeah, Nate said you guys went out last night.” He laughed. “Dud didn’t get home until late.”

“I didn’t come home until two.” I picked up a plate and piled food onto it.

“Because she was flirting it up!” Lizzy walked into the kitchen and threw her hands into the air.

“You were too,” I laughed.

“Get it girl!” Destery joked. We talked about random things and enjoyed our dinner. I put in some crappy old movie and ended up cuddling with Destery and Lizzy, why was it so cold in here?

“Well we should get going.” Nate got up once the movie was over.

“Oh, why don’t you stay?” Ana whined.

“You have to work tomorrow babe.” Nate kissed her nose and picked her up. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” She buried her face into his chest.

“I’ll take you out to lunch tomorrow.” He kissed her forehead.

“Alright.” She let go of him and let him go to the front door.

“Bye guys.” Destery got up from the couch and went to the door with Nate.

“Bye.” We all almost said in unison.

“I’m going to go get ready for bed.” I got up.

“Alright, goodnight.” Ana told me as I made my way up the stairs. I jumped into the shower once it got heated up and I washed myself quickly. I never took showers in the morning because I took super long showers and then I’d have to wake up early. I washed my hair first, then my body, followed by my face. I turned off the shower once all of the suds were off of my body. I took off my eye makeup with some makeup remover and applied some toner and moisturized my face. I put on an old oversized shirt and slipped into bed.
