Holding On Too Tight

Chapter Two

I groaned as I took a sip of my coffee, my head was killing me. “What time did you get home last night?” Ana laughed at my pain.

“Two.” I rubbed my head.

“Well Lizzy has a mad hangover too.” Ana placed her eggs onto a plate and she handed me some toast and aspirin.

“Thanks.” I swallowed the pills and took bites out of the toast.

Lizzy came down the stairs, groaning the whole way down. “Can somebody get me some aspirin?” She face planted into the couch. Ana got her some aspirin along with some toast. I got tired of hearing Lizzy bitch about her hangover so I took my coffee into the study. The study was pretty laid back and simple. There was a black couch and coffee table facing the flat screen TV hanging on the wall. There was a bookcase that covered an entire wall filled with movies, magazines, books, and other miscellaneous items. There was a desk right behind the couch that had our desktop computer. I loved this place. I always came here to write for the columns and songs for our channel. I guess I kind of ran it now, whenever we didn’t make a song video I had to film something. We did a lot of Q & A’s since we had to put a video up every week. I check myself in the mirror before starting to film a video for this week.

“Hey guys it’s me, Shay. I just wanted to talk to you guys about this hangover.” I talked to the camera for a few more minutes before signing off. “Alright guys this is it. As always we put a new video every Sunday.” I blew a kiss to the camera and started to edit. This was going to be a shorter video since I only filmed for a little while, usually only a few minutes of the footage was usable anyways. Ana walked into the room as I started to transfer the footage onto the computer.

“Filmed today?” She sat grabbed a book and sat down.

“I just talked about my hangover.” I ended up cutting off less footage than usual leaving me with 13 minutes of a video. Oh well, they don’t have to watch it. I uploaded the video to our main channel and went into the kitchen. I could really go for some grapes right now; I think we still have some in the fridge. Lizzy was still on the couch but this time she was eating grapes and giggling while looking down at her phone. I ended up getting a bowlful of grapes and sitting down next to Lizzy.

“Whatcha doing?” I poked her with my toe.

“Texting this guy,” she looked back down at her phone and typed something quickly.

“That guy from the club last night?” I asked.

“Yeah, his name’s Mike.” She looked up from her phone. “Weren’t you dancing with his friend Jaime?”

“Oh they’re friends?” He never told me he went there with any friends, just Tony.

“Yep,” she giggled at her phone again. I went back into the loft to write a poem or a song, maybe even the beginning to another book. I’ve got so many projects going on right now, but most of them are already finished. I looked down at my phone to see that I had a few messages.

From: Boss Man
I hope you have something interesting to write about for this month’s mag.

I didn’t bother replying, anything he said was rhetoric anyways. I checked the other messages.

From: Mom
I need you to come over today; I want you to meet somebody.

Oh great, my mom was trying to hook me up again. I rolled my eyes and texted her back saying that I’d be over there at 1. I checked the last message.

From: Jaime Preciado
Do you want to hang out sometime this week?

I smiled at my phone. What time would be good though? I guess we could maybe do lunch. No, lunch is too casual.

To: Jaime Preciado
Are you free on Friday?

I waited a few minutes and I started to look up shows that we are happening locally for the column. I made a list of all the upcoming shows on a piece of paper and left it on my desk. My phone buzzed again.

“Well somebody’s popular.” Ana said.

“It’s just the guy from the club last night.” I said back to her.

From: Jaime Preciado
Yeah I’ll plan something awesome and pick you up at 7. Is that good?

To: Jaime Preciado
Perfect, can’t wait.

“What’d he say?” She sat up.

“He pretty much asked me out on a date.” I set my phone down and turned off the computer.

“Ooooooo,” she laughed, “Shay’s got a date, Shay’s got a date.” She teased me. We laughed for a while and I checked the time. I should head over to my mom’s now, it was already 12:30.

“Alright well I have to go see my mom.” I got up and grabbed my car keys.

“Okay, see you when you get home.” She continued reading her book.

“I’ll be back later.” I said to Lizzy as I walked out the door.

“Bye.” She said before I shut the door behind me.
