I'll Fight For You
Fourteen
"Tell us what?" Tony laughed awkwardly.
"Jaime." I sighed and bit down on my lip.
"They deserve to know. After what they've just seen."
"She doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to." Vic snapped.
"Someone mind telling me what fuck is going on here?" Mike rushed. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose.
"I'm going to get some food. I'll be back soon." Jaime muttered. I watched him get up and leave. I looked to Vic. I went to stand up and he rushed to help me.
"You okay?" Vic asked. "Does it make you weak?"
"I'll be fine. I just feel a little dizzy," I explained. I sat down on my bed and frowned at the floor. "You start." I urged Vic.
"You didn't go to Vegas and get married, did you?" Mike asked, half serious.
"No," Vic shook his head. "Um . . . whatever we say you have to believe us. That's really important." he started.
"Okay . . ." Tony trailed away.
"See, Hannah isn't like normal girls. She's special."
"You're pregnant!" Mike exclaimed.
"No." I glared.
"Carry on." Tony urged.
"She's really special. She's going to die one day. Something is going to try and kill her really soon," Vic explained. "Things are going to kill her. But people can't see the things. But Hannah can."
"What?" they both frowned.
"Ghosts are trying to kill me!" I suddenly exclaimed.
"That's-"
"I see ghosts." I rushed.
"Han', I was trying to go gentle." Vic sighed.
"There's no gentle way to say it. Demons are trying to kill me. I could be dead within weeks." I rushed and put my head in my hands.
"I told you you're not going to die," Vic snapped. "I'm not going to let it happen."
"Are you both insane?" Mike laughed. "You see ghosts and they're trying to kill you." he echoed.
"It's true." Vic muttered.
"Vic, come on." Mike tried to reason with him.
"I didn't believe her. But it's true, I promise. Everything makes sense. Just look around you. If you see her when she's having a dream or talking to one or whatever happened just you know it's the truth."
"All this stuff? It's what? A plan." Tony asked.
I shook my head and smiled sadly. "It's research."
"On what?" Mike asked. I went to speak but couldn't.
"We've been doing research on how to keep Hannah alive." Vic said for me.
"If this is true then what does it have to do with you?" Mike asked Vic.
"Can I tell them?" Vic asked and I nodded. "Hannah and I . . . we love each other. I know it doesn't make sense, but we love each other. I would die for her, I'm willing to die for her. I didn't understand why I felt the way I did. I can't even describe how I feel, it's too strong."
"We saw someone," I said. "I am one of The Haunted. Those people that can see everything. The bad people, the demons kill us. Only one thing can save us. That's our people. When you find your person it means the attack is almost coming. I found Vic. He's my person. I need him to give me strength and to give me something that will help me live." I explained.
"What happens if you lose Vic?" Tony asked.
"I die." I said grimly.
"So, what you mean is you're in this line of people. They can all see creepy shit and some demons want them dead. The only way they keep breathing is by finding their soul mate. If they lose them it's bye bye psychic. And if you both get through all this it's happily ever after?" Mike asked deadpan.
"Well, yeah." Vic frowned.
"That's kind of poetic." Tony muttered.
"Not when she might die," Vic sighed and kissed my cheek. "They want Hannah dead even more. She's done this before. Last time they killed her."
"Not before they drove me insane first." I sighed.
"Right. I don't know, they must think you're back for a second round. They set out killing you back in 1890 England. You'd be kind of pissed yourself if the person you killed just came back."
"England?" Tony asked. "So you were like reincarnated?"
"Yeah." I nodded. Vic stood up and went to get the photo. He showed them and they widened their eyes.
"Is that what happened before?" Tony asked.
"What do you mean?" Vic frowned.
"When you were on the floor? After Jaime said you got vulnerable. Was it you bringing your past self out? I mean, you were speaking with an English accent." Tony said.
"What did I say?" I rushed.
"You weren't making sense, just like you were going . . ."
"Insane?" I asked hopefully.
"Well, yeah." Vic nodded.
"Did I say anything that made sense?"
"Um . . . Jaime asked for Hannah and you said 'I'm here'."
"Because I was Hannah!" I exclaimed. "All these years I've been thinking that it just opens me up to spirits and and I come out with rubbish. But what if when I get vulnerable my past self is begging to come out. She was driven insane before she died so that's why I haven't been making sense. It explains everything." I sighed triumphantly.
"This means the next time you get vulnerable she'll come out. What if she doesn't want to go back?" Vic frowned.
"I don't know. But God Tony, you are brilliant!" I smiled.
"I don't believe you." Mike said flatly.
"You're joking," Vic laughed. "Tell me you're joking." he glared.
"You don't think all this is true, do you?" he asked Tony.
"Um yeah. Actually I do." Tony admitted.
"It's bullshit!" Mike exclaimed and stood up.
"Don't walk away." Vic snapped.
"Why?"
"I can't leave her. You know that now. I'll choose her. I don't want to lose you, Mike." Vic said desperately.
Suddenly my head snapped back and my eyes were clouded black. I felt Vic's hands on my shoulders. "LISTEN TO HER! SHE DOESN'T LIE!" a deep male voice spewed from my lungs. Mike whipped around and his eyes widened. Vic looked into my eyes and I saw tears in his own.
"Look in her eyes." Vic rushed. Mike came forward and gasped. He brought a hand up to cover his mouth.
Then my eyes closed and I fell back onto the bed. I felt Vic press a kiss to my forehead and my eyes opened. I sat up slowly and Vic helped me. I breathed rapidly and begged it to slow. "I'm sorry." I muttered.
"It's not your fault." Vic soothed weakly.
"Our grandfather. It was his voice. He was in your eyes," Mike rushed. "How can you do that?"
"I didn't," I looked down. "I'm really sorry, I can't help it."
"I um . . . I'm sorry, Hannah. I believe you." Mike said.
"Thanks." I smiled briefly before I went off of my face.
"You need to lie down and rest." Vic urged.
"Okay," I nodded and let him lie me down. Mike and Tony got up and both left us. Vic lay down with me and wrapped his arms around me. "I'm sorry." I told him.
"Don't be." he murmured and brushed his nose gently against my shoulder.
