Bulletproof Love

Do You Want Me?

As soon as we walked in the house, I ran into the bathroom, ready to take off my wet clothes and get in the shower. After I had only taken off my shirt, I hear a knock at the door. Obviously, it was Tony, and I thought to myself, payback time. “Dylan, that’s not fair! I have to shower, too!” Tony called through the door, half jokingly and half seriously.

I opened the door wearing only my sports bra and the sweatpants I wore to the lake. I was disappointed to see that Tony had his shirt off, too, because I was definitely going to get distracted by him. However, I managed to maintain my composure and smiled at him devilishly. “It’s just a quick shower, jeez. Don’t whine, you’re too cute for that. And stop staring.” I broadened my smile, feeling accomplished that I remembered what he said to me earlier. I put my hand on the door, ready to close it so that I could take my shower, but Tony walked into the threshold, causing me to step back and to be unable to close the door. He kept looking at me. “Tony? Hello? I said stop staring at me!” I tried to sound annoyed, but I knew damn good and well that I wanted him there, looking at me the way he was.

He looked at me seductively and said quietly, “You never said anything about kissing,” and the next thing I knew, his lips were on mine. I was at first surprised, but I eventually kissed back. I wrapped my legs around his waist, and he placed his hands under my thighs to support me. Tony walked farther into the bathroom until I was pressed against the wall.

After a few minutes of this, I reminded myself that I still needed to shower and wash my hair from our time at the lake, and I reluctantly moved my lips away from his just enough to speak. “Tony, my shower…” I whispered across his lips.

“Do you need me to accompany you?” His voice was just as quiet as mine, and I’m assuming his eyes stayed closed just as mine did.

“I’d rather you not.” I put my feet back on the floor, looked at him for a second, then kissed him on the cheek. He gave me a half smile and walked out of the bathroom.

This time, I took my shower without interruption.

45 minutes later, both Tony and I were showered and dressed again. We sat on the couch to watch some movies. Looking at my phone, I saw that it was 4 p.m. “Tony,” I said to him, still looking at my phone.

“Yeah?” I could see him turn to look at me out of the corner of my eye.

“It’s 4…I think we need to call Vic.” He just looked at me blankly, and after a few moments he nodded. “Alright,” I said. I dialed Vic’s number, and on the third ring, he picked up.

“Hello?”

“Hi, Vic. You’re not busy, are you?”

“Nope, you called at a good time.”

“Good, because Tony’s calmed down a bit, and I’m assuming you’ve done the same.” I heard Tony sigh, but I ignored him.

“Dylan-“

“Hush,” I cut Vic off. “You’ll thank me later. Come over in like an hour.” I hung up the phone without waiting for a response.

Tony raised an eyebrow and looked at me. “Why’d you tell him to come over in an hour? We’re not doing anything now…”

“Yeah, I know, but I need to talk to you about something, Tony.” I reached for the remote and turned the television off, so that neither of us would get distracted.

Tony looked confused, and his eyebrow was still raised. “What about?”

I sighed, not knowing how this conversation was going to end, but I hate complicated situations, and in order to avoid one, this conversation needed to happen. “Tony, I think we’re moving a bit too fast.” My words came out somewhat rushed.

“How? All we’ve done is kissed…” He looked down, and his expression was that of confusion and sadness.

“Yeah, but keep in mind that we only really started talking a few days ago, and I still don’t know what Vic’s problem is. I just don’t wanna confuse or complicate things, you know?”

“Things are already complicated, Dylan,” his words came out sharp, but I could tell that he was just trying to get something through my head.

“How, Tony? You keep telling me all these random things but never what the real problem is!” My voice raised a bit; I was already getting frustrated with this conversation and it practically just started.

“Come on, Dylan, when best friends like the same girl it never works out well. Never!”

“Vic does not have feelings for me! And even if he did, why would you let me, or any other girl, ever come in between you guys? What sense does that make?”

“Vic does have feelings for you. He kissed you!”

“Tony. He. Was. Drunk.

“He knew what he was doing! Gosh, Dylan, are you really that naïve?”

I felt my cheeks get hot. Maybe Vic did, after all, have feelings for me. But he was talking to Ashley all night, and now nothing made sense. “I am not naïve, Tony. Maybe I would’ve seen something coming if you hadn’t been acting like a child for six months and talked to me. You can’t just let yourself fall for someone and not say anything.”

Tony looked hurt by what I said, and I instantly felt sorry. The last thing I wanted to do was hurt him. “Well, excuse me for protecting myself! And don’t be a hypocrite, Dylan. You didn’t tell me anything about how you felt about me. You’re just as guilty as me, that is, unless you don’t feel anything for me.”

“How could you accuse me of that? How could you accuse me of sitting here for 24 hours barely able to keep my hands off you, and not be feeling anything? You have no idea how I feel about you.” I jumped up off the couch and ran into my bedroom, closing and locking the door behind me. I heard Tony’s footsteps behind me, but of course I ignored them. I threw myself onto my bed and let myself sob into my pillow.

Tony’s P.O.V
“Dylan? I’m so sorry! Open the door, please…” I begged for her to talk to me through the door for about ten minutes, but I only heard the sound of her soft sobs in response. I put my back against the wall next to her room and slid down until I was sitting on the floor. You’re so stupid, I thought to myself. How could you do that to her? She said she loved you, Tony, God, you’re so stupid… I felt my eyes burn from the tears that threatened to drop from them. No, you’re not gonna cry over this. Get it together, man!

But the tears came anyway, and just as they did, the doorbell rang.

I walked to the door and opened it, knowing Dylan wouldn’t come out to do it.

“Tony?” Vic said, looking at me with a raised eyebrow.

“What the fuck do you want, Vic?” I said, making sure my voice didn’t crack.

“Where’s Dylan?” He looked at me in my eyes, and I turned away. “Dude, are you crying?”

“Mind your fucking business, man!” Just then, Dylan came out of her room.

“When did Vic get here?” Her eyes were red and puffy, but her voice was fine, and if you didn’t look at her, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell that she was ever crying.

“I just got here,” He said, shooting me a death glare. “Dylan, is everything okay?”

“We’re fine.” I said to him through clenched teeth.

“I wasn’t talking to you!”

“Enough!” Dylan yelled, standing in between Vic and me. “Vic, come inside. And both of you chill the fuck out! We’re working this out like adults tonight!” All three of us walked into the living room, none of us looking forward to what we had to do. Great, I thought. This is gonna be the best fucking night of my life.
