Bulletproof Love

Do You Want To Let Me Know That You're Okay?

Dylan’s P.O.V
I lead Vic and Tony into the living room, and we all sat down. Vic sats on the loveseat, and Tony and I both sat on the couch with a space between us. “Hey, do you guys want anything to drink?” I asked, breaking the awkward silence that had been hanging over the room.

I turned to Tony first, because he was sitting closer to me. “Sure, but I don’t think Vic needs anything. We all know he gets a little…affectionate…when he drinks.” He shoots Vic and intense glare, and Vic stiffens under his speculation.

I chuckle at Tony’s remark, finding it childish and unnecessary, and turn to Vic. “Would you like anything?” I said to him with a smile, pretending that Tony hadn’t said anything.

“Why yes, Dylan,” he says, putting emphasis on nearly every syllable of his sentence. “I would love something to drink.” I laughed and felt Tony glaring at me from behind. I rolled my eyes from him, and got up to get some beers.

I walked to the kitchen, which was directly across the hall from the living room. After opening the fridge, I grabbed three beers. Feeling my phone vibrate in my pocket, I put two of the ice cold bottles down. An unknown number was lit up on my screen, and wondering who it was, I answered. “Hello?”

“H-h-hello? D-d-Dylan?” The voice on the other line was breathy and rushed. Her shudders were fast, and she sounded like she was in a panic.

“Ashley?” I asked, concerned. “What’s going on? Are you okay?” As I said this, Vic and Tony came into the kitchen with concerned expressions on their faces. Vic mouthed, “What the fuck is going on?” and I shrugged in return. I heard silence for about 30 seconds on the other end of the line. “Ashley?”

“Shh…” she responded. I raised an eyebrow at this, not knowing if it were a joke or something serious. I heard a bang, then a man’s voice in the background, which startled me. He sounded angry, threatening, almost. I couldn’t make out his exact words, but I did here a collection of cuss words. Ashley screamed, and the line went dead.

I looked up at Vic and Tony with wide eyes. “What happened?” Tony said, not sounding angry for the first time in about 30 minutes.

“I don’t know, she really didn’t say anything but we need to go to her apartment now.”

“We don’t even know where she lives! Oh my God…” Vic ranted about not knowing where she lived and how worried she was, and I was surprised by how concerned he was for this girl.

“Vic, we have to stay calm. I brought her home yesterday morning, and I remember where she lives, okay? But we need to hurry, I have a really bad feeling about this.”

We ran outside to Vic’s car, because he was the only one who had their keys in their pocket. I drove, so I could get us there quicker. Vic sat in the passenger seat and Tony sat in the back. I pulled off, and we sped down the road. I took mostly side streets in order to dodge traffic lights. When we finally got there, I didn't see Ashley’s car anywhere, and all the lights in her house were turned off. That’s odd, I thought. Where could she be…? “Where the hell is she?” Vic said, frustrated, to no one in particular.

“Vic, calm down…” I said, my voice shaking. I was afraid for her, I must admit. But I wanted to stay calm for her, so we could find her. No one works well in chaos.

“How the fuck am I supposed to stay calm? I heard her scream on your phone, Dylan. She could be kidnapped, she could be de-“

Enough!” Tony’s voice cut Vic off. His voice was barely above a loud whisper, but I was still a bit startled by it. I heard the car door open, and Tony got out, starting toward Ashley’s front door. Vic followed, and I did the same. Tony jiggled the front doorknob to find it locked. “I guess she wasn’t here, Dylan. Do you know of anywhere else she could be…?” his voice was alarmingly calm, and while I found comfort in his soft voice, I wanted to find Ashley, and I was slowly growing into a panic.

“No, no, no, no. Where else would she be?”

“Guys!” We hear Vic’s voice from a distance. Neither of us had noticed that he'd sneaked off. He appeared from around a corner and gestured for us to follow him. Once we did, he pointed to a window. The glass was busted out completely and I wondered why. “Does she live on the first floor?” Vic asked. I nodded in response. “I guess we’ll be going in this way then.”

I decided not to argue with Vic this time, because there was really no other way for us to do this. Tony nodded in agreement, and started to go through first. Vic went in next, and he held my hand from the other side to help me in once it was my turn.

Once we were all inside the apartment, we looked around in the dark. I assumed that we were in the living room, judging by the amount of windows that were in the room. It smelled like cigarette smoke and alcohol. I carefully stumbled around the room until I found a light switch, and turning it on, I confirmed with myself that we were, in fact, in a living room. The place was small, there was a short hallway at one side of the room that led to two other rooms. The kitchen and eating area were in the same general room as the living room, but they were distinguished by a change in flooring. Vic, Tony, and I looked around the room we were in, and we discovered a smashed bottle of vodka on the floor of the kitchen, a mysterious hole in a wall, and an ash tray with a partially lit cigarette in it. I took the ash tray outside and dumped its contents into the dirt, making sure to extinguish any possible flames with my shoe.

We then decided to look into the other rooms. Tony and I were to check the bedroom, and Vic was to check the bathroom. After this, we would have searched the entire apartment. We each go into our designated rooms, and Tony turns on the light to the bedroom. We couldn’t see anything that seemed out of place. The bed was made, and while the room was fairly tidy, it certainly looked lived in.

“T-t-tony! D-d-d-Dylan! Come quick!” We hear Vic’s voice in the other room, troubled and disturbed. Tony and I shoot each other quick glances, then hastily make our way into the bathroom.

Vic was sitting on the floor, with a very pale Ashley in his arms. Her skin was lacking its usual tan hue, and she was bleeding from her head. Her white shirt had been dyed a deep red from her blood that was also seeping from her stomach. There was an overwhelming amount of blood, and my breath became short and hurried. I heard a thump, and everything went black.

Vic’s P.O.V.
I walked into the bathroom of Ashley’s apartment. Neither Dylan, Tony, nor I were able to find anything extremely significant in the living room/kitchen/dining room, so we decided to look further into her house. Tony and Dylan went into the bedroom, and obviously, the bathroom was my place to look.

I looked down, and saw a pale, bloody, lump laying on the bathroom floor. She had wavy light brown hair with red tips, and I could see “Collide With The Sky” tattooed across her chest, which was stained with her blood. I gasped, and instantly felt my eyes sting with the threat of tears. I fell to the ground with my back against the wall and pulled her on my lap, cradling her bleeding head. “T-t-tony! D-d-d-Dylan! Come quick!” I shout, barely able to keep my voice steady.

Tony and Dylan came rushing into the room, and seeing me with Ashley, they both became wide-eyed, and Dylan fainted. “Call an ambulance or something!” I yelled at Tony. He nodded vigorously without taking his eyes off Ashley’s lifeless body. He pulled out his phone, and seconds later, he was giving Ashley’s address to the person on the other line, briefly explaining what happened. After he hung up, he picked up Dylan, and sat her on his lap, the same way I was holding Ashley. He whispered some stuff in her ear, and soon enough, she was awake. Before she could see Ashley and faint again, he carried her off to the living room to wait for the paramedics.

Five minutes later, the ambulance and the police came bursting through the door. They rushed back to the bathroom where I still sat with Ashley, and put her on a stretcher. One of the police officer tried asking us questions, but Tony and Dylan were still in shock, and I was just angry. Who the hell did that to her? I swear when I find them… I thought.

Finally, when the officer gave up his efforts and left me alone, I ran outside to see Ashley’s fragile body being lifted into the back of the ambulance truck on the stretcher. I ran outside to my car, hearing Tony and Dylan’s footsteps following me. We all piled in my car, and I sped off barely before all the doors were closed. I followed the ambulance all the way to the hospital with tears racing down my face the entire time, making the road barely visible.

Notes

Hmm. More dramatics. What happened to Ashley?
