Chapter Twenty-Two
For the whole of January Erica was working at the tattoo shop and hanging out with the guys. They had been rehearsing Kiss Me Again a lot too. So they had it right for tour. Huw and Aubrey had been over for a visit too. Everything had been going really well. Erica had also been uploading her covers onto Youtube and was getting a lot of fans from that.
It was a week before the tour was going to start. It was also Mike and Erica’s 6 month anniversary.
Erica was woken up to the sound of pots and pan clunking about in the kitchen. She looked over to the side of the bed that Mike usually sleeps on and smiled to herself. She couldn’t believe that she had been in a relationship for so long. She had never been in a relationship before and six months was a big thing for her.
She hopped out of bed pulling her hair into a rough pony tail and exited her bedroom. As she walked into the large hall-like space between the lounge and the kitchen she noticed a red and white picnic blanket on the middle of the floor. It had breakfast served on it. Mike turned around as he heard her giggle a little to herself. Eating on picnic blankets even inside was a thing they did often because they both loved picnics so much. He walked over to Erica with two cups of coffee. He kissed her on the lips, passed her a cup and said “Happy 6months E” with a giant grin on his face.
They sat down on the blanket “Happy anniversary to you too sweetie” Erica finally said after she woke a bit from the coffee. They sat in silence as they ate breakfast and stared at eachother.
“I got you the best presents” Mike finally spoke. “I doubt it, mine will most definitely trump yours” Erica challenged.
Mike passed Erica a box. She opened it to reveal a new watch. It had a large clock face and a pale green strap. “I know you needed a new watch so I got you one. I also know that green is your favourite colour and this one reminded me of Peter Pan. Look on the back” Mike told her. Erica turned the watch over to see that it had been engraved. Its engraving read:

Erica smiled and giggled a little. She then kissed Mike and said “Thank you Mike, I love it. But you’re going to laugh when you see your present” She got up and went to one of the cupboards that surrounded the lounge. She pulled out a box; a similar size to the one Mike had just given her. Mike opened the box to reveal another watch.
“I knew you broke your watch a couple of weeks back so I took it upon myself to get you this one. I saw you eyeing it up a while back” She couldn’t help chuckling to herself. “Look on the back” She continued. Mike did exactly that and started to laugh when he saw that his watch had also been engraved. It read:

They had gotten eachother practically the same present. They kept giggling about the whole thing for a few more minutes. Erica then passed Mike an envelope. “Try and trump this” She said cockily.
Mike opened the envelope to expose two tickets to a one off concert in LA. The line-up was Rage Against The Machine, Incubus and Soundgarden. Mike squealed like a little girl. He loved all of these bands and knew that he wouldn’t bother trying to get tickets because of how quickly they would go. “HOW DID YOU GET THESE?” He screamed out with excitement. “I pre-ordered” Erica simply said. “The show is just after we get back off tour too so it doesn’t clash with anything” She was now sat on his lap “I love you so fucking much” Mike said before kissing her with so much passion. “Until the end of fucking time” He said against her lips as he kissed her again. “Until the end of time” Erica said against Mike’s lips before holding out her pinky finger for their usual promise thumb kiss. Neither one of them could be happier than they were in that moment. They didn’t want to move or do anything else.
“What are we doing for the rest of the day?” Erica asked Mike as they were lying on the picnic blanket.
“I have your other present. But we don’t have to be at the place where it is until about 3 so we can just watch Peter Pan and Harry Potter until then” Mike said enthusiastically knowing that Erica would be both curious about her other present but totally down to watch movies until then. “Okay” She popped up “I’m going to shower and get dressed first though” Mike nodded and cleared away the picnic blanket and breakfast utensils.
Mike had joined Erica in the shower. They had washed eachother’s body. Erica wasn’t tall enough to wash Mike’s hair though and he made fun of how short she was. Erica wasn’t even that short, it’s just that Mike is so tall. They got dressed into casual clothes. Mike informed Erica that she wouldn’t need to dress up for later and shorts with a t-shirt would be perfect. She really was curious as to where they were going. They spent the next few hours watching movies and cuddling. It was a perfect anniversary so far.
“We had better get going” Mike suggested to Erica who had just finished her sandwich. “Okay, let me just put my shoes on” She said as she laced up her red converse.
The drive to the unknown venue wasn’t too short and wasn’t too long. It was spent singing along to Letlive. They were one of Erica’s favourite bands and it so happened that they too would be on the tour in February. She couldn’t wait to hang out with Jason Butler and the rest of his band. They soon reached a parking lot and Mike parked up. They got out the car and Erica had no clue where she was. “Where are we?” She asked confused. “You’ll soon see but before you do I have to blindfold you so you don’t work it out early” Mike laughed pulling out a bandana from his pocket. “What? No!” Erica didn’t like the idea of being blindfolded but soon gave in and let her eyes be shielded.
Mike guided her for what seemed like a good 5 or so minutes. Erica could hear a lot of people talking and then she heard Mike’s voice. “Hi, Mike Fuentes, they’re expecting me” He said and was then let into the building. The sound of many people talking subsided and it was now fairly quiet. Erica was still being guided at the hands of Mike when suddenly they stopped walking. Erica was nervous, to say the least. “Okay, are you ready to see where you are?”
“Yes, please let me take this thing off” Erica groaned impatiently. “There you go” Mike said as he pulled off the bandana. Erica couldn’t believe what she was seeing. None other than James Hetfield of Metallica stood before her. Erica shook. “OMG, HI” Erica shouted. She couldn’t contain her joy. She turned to Mike and hugged him tightly and calmed down a bit before James spoke. “I believe today is your anniversary? Happy 6months” He stated. Erica felt her knees turn to jelly beneath her so she held onto Mike.
“OMG, Mike, how did you manage this?” She asked looking between the Metallica front man and her boyfriend. “It’s no biggy. I made a few calls and asked if we could get in for sound check. We’ll be at the show tonight too” He said nonchalantly, as if he was talking about going to the shop for a loaf of bread. “I love you so much” She proclaimed.
“So are you guys ready to hang out and watch us sound check?” James asked. Erica had almost forgotten he was stood there since she had got lost in Mike’s eyes. “Hell yeah” The couple said as one.
Mike and Erica sat in the middle of the hall, where the crowd would stand. Mike was sat behind Erica with her between his legs. The guys from Metallica were doing their thing on stage. Erica’s smile never left her face once. She had snapped a few pictures and put them on instagram with captions about how she has the best boyfriend ever. She also remembered that this was her and Jaime’s 6month best-friend-aversary as they called it so she decided to upload her favourite picture with him to instagram as well. The caption read
“Today is also the 6 month anniversary of my friendship with the most awesome person ever. I love you pumpkin @ptvjaime”
She put her phone away and continued to watch the band sound check.
The show that night was perfect. Erica preferred to watch concerts from the crowd since she loved the energy and feeling she got from being a part of the audience. Her and Mike had gone side of stage for the second half of the set though. As Metallica came off stage James asked what the pair thought and of course they responded with how amazing it was. They hung out with the band for a while, getting pictures with all of them and everything before they left for Erica’s apartment.
“Holy fuck, you are literally the best” Erica beamed to Mike, who was driving the car. “That was the best mother-fucking-day of my entire life” She still hadn’t quite calmed down from how amazing this day was. “I personally have no idea how we’re going to top this when we reach one year” She mocked. Mike agreed with her on that one.
They soon arrived home, after having bought a pizza on their way. When they got in, they sat on the island in the kitchen. Literally on top of it, this is where they usually ate, if they weren't on a picnic blanket. They very rarely sat on the actual stools. When everyone was over they obviously sat like normal but when it was just them they sat on top, cross legged and in front of eachother, just another one of their things. They ate the pizza and spoke about their day.
“Are you looking forward to Disneyland tomorrow?” Mike asked Erica. He already knew she was. They had been a few times since Erica moved to San Diego and every time she loved it. They would always start with Peter Pan and always spend lunch in the middle of the park instead of at a table, like normal people. They liked to stand out. “What sort of question is that? Of course I am. Peter Pan, Lunch in the middle, rides. Can’t fucking wait” Erica spoke through a mouth full of pizza, which never phased Mike one bit. Erica was like one of the lads and Mike had gotten used to it. It was one of the things that made Mike like her more.
Soon enough the pizza was gone and both were extremely tired. They headed to bed and cuddled into one another. They declared their love for eachother once again before falling asleep as the happiest people in the world.
