Chapter Twenty-Three
“WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP” Erica was shouting like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. Of course the only reason Erica is so alive this morning is because everyone is going to Disneyland, one of Erica’s favourite places on the planet.
“Alright, I’m up. God dammit woman, calm down” Mike replied as he rolled off the bed with Erica following, landing on top. “Morning” She said with a smile. She pecked him on the lips and ran out of the bedroom.
Mike and Erica weren’t living together but they spent the majority of time in one another’s beds. There have only been a few occasions that one of them hasn’t stayed over at the others.
“Hey Pumpkin” Jaime called as he and Jess walked through the door of Erica’s apartment. Everyone had decided to meet there for breakfast, before hitting the road. “Hey you” Erica replied as she skipped over giving both of them a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Mike emerged from the bedroom moments later in his boxers; he had a cigarette hanging from his mouth too. “I’m going for a shower” He said groggily. “Let me piss first” Jaime said as he ran to the bathroom.
Soon enough Vic, Tony, Casey and Mal arrived. Mike had finally gotten out of the shower and dressed. He was definitely more awake. The group were sat around Erica’s kitchen island eating Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes that Erica had made. They were all excited for the day. They may all be grown-ups but they were definitely children at heart. Erica and Jaime were just children; whenever the two of them were together they would act like hyper toddlers.
About 2 hours later the troupe arrived at Disneyland and as you guessed, headed straight for Peter Pan. Erica skipped most of the way to him. They took pictures with Peter Pan and some of the other characters before going on some rides. Half way through the day they decided to stop for lunch at the Mexican restaurant in Frontierland. After getting their food Erica and Mike did exactly what they had planned; sat in the middle of the grounds outside the restaurant facing eachother, while the rest of the gang sat at a table outside.
They were eating and talking when suddenly Mike decided to play a game. “BOGIES” Mike shouted, not too loud but enough to be heard by people around them. Erica was a champ at this game as she had no shame in shouting this word “BOGIES” Erica shouted a reasonable amount louder than Mike did. This game continued for a few minutes when out of nowhere an old lady came over, stood by the pair and shouted the word bogies louder than either of them previously had. The three of them erupted in to fits of laughter. The old woman’s husband came over and Mike asked them to join him and Erica for lunch. They accepted the offer and sat with them on the ground.
“We noticed you two sat over here messing around and we thought we’d come and say hello since you remind us of us when we were younger” The older lady started. “I’m Arielle and this is my husband Jonathan.”
“It’s nice to meet you both, I’m Mike and this is my girlfriend Erica” He greeted.
They sat and spoke about eachother for a long time. Erica and Mike found out that Peter Pan, despite her name, is Arielle’s favourite also. They discovered that the elderly couple have been together since they were 21 and have been married since they were 22. Jonathan proposed to Arielle at the park. Arielle and Jonathon live in Los Angeles; they come to the Disneyland at least 4 times a year. They are both covered in tattoos. The old couple are pretty much Mike and Erica in 40 years-time. It was an amazing lunch, one that neither couple would ever forget. While they were sat around having their discussion the rest of the group that Erica and Mike came with had also noticed a resemblance about the two couples and had cracked jokes about it. Soon the lunch came to an end when Arielle and Jonathon’s daughter and granddaughter came over.
“Mom, Dad? What are you guys doing down there?” The daughter asked.
“Ah, Wendy, darling this is –“She was cut off by her granddaughter Erica and Mike had been smiling at the name of Arielle’s daughter when the girl spoke up. “Mike and Erica, omg” The girl was no older than 14 or 15, she had a huge smile on her face when she noticed who her grandparents had been dining with. “Granny, how do you know Mike and Erica?” The little girl enquired.
“They’re new friends of ours Jane, how do you know them?” Arielle was a tad confused. “Mike is in one of my favourite bands ever” She squealed. Mike and Erica laughed as Mike got up and gave the girl a hug. “Here, I’ll take a picture” Erica said as Jane passed her phone over.
The next couple of minutes were spent introducing eachother and Jane being slightly gobsmacked about everything happening in front of her. Erica and Mike had gotten pictures of and with Arielle and Jonathan; Erica had also been given their home address as she and Arielle decided they would become pen pals. Erica has always wanted a pen pal. They soon said their goodbyes and parted in different directions of the resort. Erica instagrammed the picture of the four of them with the caption:
Best old couple ever. I hope we’re still like them in 40 years @ptvmike :D
Erica and Mike walked over to the rest of the gang who had also finished eating. “Who were they?” Vic asked as the others looked on intrigued also. “They were Arielle and Jonathan. They came over and played bogies with us, the old lady won and then they kind of became our new best friends” Erica stated. “We thought they looked like what you guys will look like when you’re old” Jaime added. “We all thought that too” Mike laughed at how much everyone saw it.
They spent the rest of the day walking around the resort, going on rides, taking pictures and just having an amazing time in general. A great time was had by all. It was beginning to get late when they all decided to head home. In the car Jess noticed Erica’s watch and complimented her on it.
“Thanks, Mike gave it to me yesterday” She said with a Cheshire-cat-like grin on her face.
“Aw, you guys are too cute. What did you get yesterday Mike?” Jess carried on the conversation about their 6 months.
“Also a watch” He chuckled. “And tickets to the one off Rage show at the beginning of May” It was now Mike’s turn to look like a Cheshire cat. “But my Metallica present easily trumped those” He joked and stuck his tongue out as he turned to face Erica. Vic and Mike were sat in the front of the car, Vic driving, while Erica, Jess and Jaime were in the back. They all laughed at the comments being made about anniversary presents when Blink-182 – Feeling This started playing through the speakers and everyone sang along.
The drive home only took about an hour and half, maybe a little longer. The 2 couples got out of the car before Vic informed them that he was going to go home. With that he drove off in the direction of his and Mike’s house. Erica and Mike, Jaime and Jess got in and all changed into their pyjamas pretty quickly. It had been a long day and all they wanted was to be comfortable, hang out and watch a movie before bed. They did exactly that. The four of them watched Edward Scissorhands on the couch before each couple went into their designated rooms.
Erica loved it when they had couples night, just the four of them; because it meant she got to spend time with her 3 best friends.
In 5 days-time they would all be setting out for their tour across the country and Erica had never been more nervous and excited than she was. The single had been out for a few weeks and was getting a lot of love from fans that couldn’t wait for it to be played on tour. The band couldn’t wait to play it on tour. Erica couldn’t wait to be on tour. Ah the tour.
