The next morning Erica awoke to an empty bed. She pulled on her underwear and a t-shirt of Mike’s before making her way to the kitchen where she could smell something she was so used to smelling in the mornings, blueberry pancakes.
“Damn you woke up. I wanted to make you breakfast in bed” Mike sighed out. He was in just a pair of boxers and looked a little scruffy; Erica couldn’t help but find this ridiculously hot.
“I got lonely” She joked, sitting on one of the kitchen stools. Mike passed her a plate of pancakes before sitting opposite her with a plate of his own.
“Smells good, I hope you made enough for me” Vic hoped as he walked down the stairs joining the pair in the kitchen. “There’s some on the side” Replied Mike.

About an hour later Jaime arrived, without Jess. “Hey suckers!!” He shouted as he entered the living area where Vic, Mike and Erica were watching Spongebob Squarepants. “Hey pumpkin” Erica said as she pulled him onto her lap for a hug. “I thought you were bringing Jess to meet me” She pouted a little. Erica was really excited to meet Jess. Jaime had spoken so much of her and she sounded like such a sweet person. Someone that Erica could see herself being friends with.
“She had to go into work last minute. She sends her apologies but we’re taking you and Mike to the zoo tomorrow to make up for it. Double date” He giggled before getting a bottle of water from the fridge and re-joining the group on the couch.
They spent the next couple of hours just talking about what they were going to do while Erica was in town. Vic and Erica already had a few things planned but they were surprises which only the two of them were to know about.
Vic had gone out for dinner with a friend and Mike had gone upstairs for a shower, leaving Erica and Jaime to hang out together. Erica loved Jaime’s company, she liked to think he was slowly becoming her new best friend, he thought the same.
“Hey E, can I talk to you about something?” Jaime asked with his hands in his laps looking nervous. “Of course you can sweetie, what’s up?” She comforted.
“Well I want to propose to Jess but I don’t know what to do. I think proposing at a restaurant is so unoriginal and I want it to be something she remembers. I know you don’t know her much but I want your help, what should I do?” He was playing with his hands.
“aww, omg first off congrats. She’ll obviously say yes. Hah, that’s exactly what I said to my dad the other week. Anyway I think you should take her somewhere that she likes. Make it cute and something that doesn’t happen often” She said with a big grin on her face. Erica herself had never wanted to get married but she loved hearing other people’s stories about things like this.
“She does like the zoo, the monkeys are her favourite. I want to do it as soon as possible so maybe I could propose tomorrow. Do you think that’s a good idea?” He was now pretty excited.
“Yeah, aw you should see if you could get the monkeys involved. Like if they’re trained when you propose the monkey could be the one holding the ring” She couldn’t help but laugh at her idea, neither could Jaime.
“That’s such a good plan. I’m gonna do it. Omg, this time tomorrow I could be engaged.” He squealed a little pulling Erica into a hug.
“I’ve never wanted to get married but I love seeing the way people react when they do” Erica said as she studied Jaime’s body language.
“What, why not?” He was a bit shocked by this. “I just never have. When I was little all the girls I knew wanted big weddings and lots of kids. Me, I wanted a nice house, 2 goldfish and decent paying job” She laughed to herself.
“Fair enough, but did you never dream of having a wedding or the perfect proposal or anything?” Jaime enquired.
“Actually, I did go through a time where I would just watch loads of rom-coms and dreamt of the perfect proposal. I love aquariums, they’re one of my favourite places to go and I had this plan that if I ever got proposed to whomever the guy was would take me to the aquarium on a date. Then we’d go to like the turtle or shark part or whatever but there would be a note on the doors to that section that said ‘private party’ or something. But we’d be allowed in. Then as you enter there would be a picnic blanket and whiskey and it would be the best. Then as we finish eating I’m told to look in the water and suddenly a group of people would come down and in turn they would hold up a piece of paper that would say ‘will. You. Marry. Him.” Then I’d turn around to see him on one knee with a ring box with the question mark on the lid and yeah haha. It’s so cheesy but that was my ‘dream’. But like I said, I don’t really want to get married so it doesn’t matter.” Erica could feel herself blushing as she said all of this. It was the only time she has ever really been romantic.
“Aww, that is the cutest thing I have ever heard” Jaime grinned.
While Erica was saying this Mike was sat on the stairs. He had been since the beginning of their conversation. He didn’t want to interrupt though. He couldn’t contain the smile that went from ear to ear as he heard Erica’s proposal dream. He wouldn’t bring it up though because then he’d be caught out for eavesdropping. Mike decided to creep back upstairs and shut his door loudly so Jaime and Erica would change the subject.
“What you talking about?” Mike chimed as he jumped over the back of the couch landing between the two of them.
“I’m going to propose to Jess at the zoo when we go tomorrow and Erica was helping me plan it.” Jaime replied, still grinning like a child in a candy store.
“Shit, good luck man. Not that you need it. Jess is so in love with you of course she’s not going to say no.” Mike was happy for his band mate. He knew just how much Jaime loved Jess and Jess, Jaime. They were practically the perfect couple.
