Vic POV

Mike and Jaime showed up before my parents did and helped me prepare the food for the barbecue. We opened up the doors to the backyard and set up a table and chairs. We pulled the barbecue out of the garage and set it out back, and with that we also brought out a cooler. Mike and Jaime bought some ice and we put some drinks into the cooler. Everything was coming along nicely.

It also felt nice to finally be doing something productive. This barbecue made me realize that beating yourself up more while you're sad is pretty much the worst thing to do. I was already feeling a lot better, not just because Carlee was okay and out of the hospital, but because I was finally doing something besides staring at the wall.

We were outside putting everything together when the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it." I smiled. I haven't seen my parents in about 3 months now, so I was excited to see them. I ran up the stairs and swung open the door.

"Hijo! Ha sido un tiempo!" my dad exclaimed. I smiled and gave both my parents a hug.

"Hey guys. It has been awhile." I smiled. My mom gave me a kiss on the cheek while my dad stepped inside.

"Te he echado de menos!" my mom exclaimed as I closed the door.

"I've missed you too, mamá!" I led them down the stairs and outside. They were holding two bags and handed them to Jaime and Mike. They were gifts. They had given Mike a bottle of wine and Jaime a souvenir from Mexico, as they had just visited. I looked at them, a bit sad that they didn't bring me a gift.

"We have a special gift for you later." my mom smiled. I nodded and was probably going to end up driving myself insane trying to think of what they were going to give me.

We started right off with the barbecue. Mike and my dad were going to be cooking while my mom, Jaime and I all caught up.

"So, Mike's been telling me you have a girlfriend." she smiled. I shrugged my shoulders. I didn't want to tell her that my 'girlfriend' had been drugged and was in a coma.. and that I was depressed for the past month about her.

"He also told me that she fell into a coma. I am so sorry hijo." she frowned, kissing my forehead.

"It's fine mom.. she's awake now. I don't know where she is though." I said, attempting to smile. She rubbed my back to reassure me that things were going to be okay.

"You'll see her soon, you just have to have faith." she smiled. I nodded and went over to the cooler to get out some drinks.

"Who wants a beer?" I called.

"Me!" Jaime smiled.

"Jaime you're only 18." I laughed.

"So? You're only 20!" he frowned. I shook my head and pulled out a beer and handed it to him.

"Mama?" I asked, holding out a beer.

She nodded and accepted the beer. I grabbed one for myself and sat down, taking a few sips.

I was already in a better mood. I couldn't help thinking about where Carlee was, though. But I didn't let it ruin my night with my family.

"Dad, Mike! Hurry up I'm fucking hungry!" I called.

"Calm the fuck down, we're trying." Mike laughed.

"Victor Vincent, it's not polite to eat when all your guests haven't arrived." my mom laughed.

"All of our guests?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. Just then the doorbell rang.

"Oh! That's your surprise." she smiled. I gave her a confused expression as she passed me and went inside.

"She probably brought some family members from Mexico." I laughed. I waited for awhile before my mom returned, talking to someone who was hidden behind her. She walked outside, fully exposing who was behind her.
