Can You Tell From the Look In Her Eyes?

Tofu and Fading Colors

David and I have barely acknowledged each other since the night at the club. Kathy had had to go home for her mother's birthday, and Ruby and Logan had gone on a girl's day out, leaving me all to my lonesome in my bunk. It was fairly uncomfortable staying on the same bus as Jaime, but Vic and Tony were practically my brothers at this point. It'd be too weird leaving them.

"Hey," Mike said softly.

"Hi, Whiskeyhands," I tried to smile but failed. Lately, I'd just been tired all the time. I didn't really come out of my bunk other than to eat and watch TV.

"How are you holding up?" He pulled himself up into my bunk and wrapped his arms around me, kissing my forehead.

"Not very well," I said truthfully.

He sighed. "You need to let it go."

"I know," I mumbled. "I just... can't. I can't believe he cheated on me. How long has it been going on? Has he done it to other girls? Why-"

"You cheated, too, you know," Mike scolded.

"I know, but I went to tell him. I actually was planning on telling him. He wasn't going to tell me unless I found out. That's what I have the biggest problem with," I looked at my crumpled sheets, thinking about the last time Jaime slept in them. It even still smelled faintly of him.

"You need a BFFNO," Mike smiled.

"A BFFNO?" I cocked an eyebrow.

"A best fucking friends night out," he grinned.

"Alright, Whiskeyhands," I sighed. "I will. But, no clubbing, no drinking, no smoking, no hooking up. Got it?" I warned him.

"Got it," he grinned even wider before hopping out of my bunk. "Get ready. We have about a half hour before everyone else gets back and I'm not sharing my best friend on ou night out."

I grabbed some clothes and decided to make an effort today. I peeled off the clothes I hadn't bothered to take off for the last three days.

I quickly straightened my hair and pulled on my clothes for the day. I decided to just go with a muscle tee, some shorts, and a cute pair of Converse that I'd had since the ninth grade. (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=88489475) My turquoise hair wasn't as vibrant as I remembered, but then again, nothing was. The daylight was dimmer now. My eyes were definitely less blue. Everything was less colorful and it was awful.

"You ready?" Mike asked, tapping his foot impatiently. The boys would be back any minute and I did not want to see Jaime.

"Yup," I walked out the door, kind of dragging my feet. I really wanted to just run back inside and stay in my bunk for the rest of my life.

He hailed a cab and we got a ride to some vegan restaraunt.

"Why's you bring me here, Mikey?" I giggled as we sat down at the table.

"Well, I looked up the whole straight edge thing on the internet and it says that straight edges... er, whatever you call yourselves are vegan," he blushed.

"That's very sweet of you, Mike," I smiled at my best friend. "But, I'm not a vegan. I just don't eat meat that comes from large factories where they do awful things to it. I buy my meat from a local grocery or somewhere that the animals are slaughtered humanely."

"Now I feel stupid," Mike muttered.

"Don't," I grinned. "I love vegan food."

Mike smiled back as the waitress cam back to get our orders. I ordered a tofu burger and Mike just ordered a salad with tofu bacon.

"So..." Mike spoke up, looking me dead in the eye. "What are you going to do about you and Jaime?"

I looked down, suddenly losing the little apetite I had to begin with. "I don't know..."

"You just need to apologize. It's obvious how depressed you are without each other," Mike stated.

"I'm not depressed without him," I argued. "I've probably just got a cold."

"Yeah. Okay," Mike rolled his eyes. "I know for a fact this isn't a cold, Carter. I went through the same thing in high school."

"You did?" I whispered. I looked up and his eyes were slightly red. For once, it wasn't because he was high.

"Yeah," he smiled sadly, "I did. It was an awful thing to go through alone, and that's how I met Ruby. I... uh... I was walking down the Golden Gate Bridge and I promised myself if one person so much as smiled at me I wouldn't jump. Ruby gave me her number," he smiled, but I could see his eyes getting a bit misty.

"That's really sweet, Mikey," I smiled.

"I swear to God, Carter. If you ever tell anyone about this, I'm telling them that you like 3OH!3," he threatened jokingly.

"I do not," I scoffed.

"Yes you do," he smiled knowingly.

"Ugh, fine! I'm in love with Nathaniel Motte's voice! Happy?" I groaned.

"I'm happy as long as you don't go telling people that I got all sappy in the middle of a vegan restaraunt," he shivered at the word vegan.

"Truce," I smiled, holding up my napkin as a white flag.

We made small talk while he finished his food. I had only eaten half of mine before I was done, but Mike ordered dessert. It was nice. Having lunch with your best friend. No pressure of being on a date. No awkward moments where you try to look hot while having food dripping down your chin.

After he finally finished we went back and got on the bus about two minutes after bus call. Lucky for me, the rest of the guys were there, and being the kind-of-manager, it didn't really matter because I was kind of in charge.

The bus set off for the next destination, which I was completely lost as to where it was. I believe it was Indianapolis before we headed to Canada, but I couldn't be sure. Mike and Tony and Vic and I all watched movies in the front lounge. Jaime stayed in his bunk, and it felt weird knowing the roles were reversed. Weird seeing him depressed.

It's weird that you can't call him yours.
