We Found Each Other In The Dark

I Don't Need To Know

I finished creating the smokey eye that was obviously the best I'd ever done. I had curled my hair, put on Jungle Red lipstick, and then slipped on my heels. I admired my attire for this date night that Vic insisted we have as an early birthday celebration for me since he wasn't going to be home for my birthday. Vic walked into my bedroom, and his eyes widened and the corners of his lips tugged into a smile, "Baby, you look absolutely beautiful."

"Thank you." I placed a kiss on his cheek, "You do realize this is the first time I've dressed up like this in so long, right? So, sorry if I look weird."

"I couldn't tell because you look flawless. Absolutely perfect."

I wrapped my arms around his neck and placed a soft kiss on his plump lips, careful not to mark them with my red lipstick. "I love you, Vic."

"I love you too, Livvy." He grinned, grabbing my clutch and asking, "You ready to roll?"

I nodded, getting the clutch from his hands, "I am, let's go."

We walked into the living room where Mike and Frenchi were sitting. Whistles escaped their mouths as Vic held his arms to me, showing me off. Jonah looked up from his toys and gasped, "Mommy, you look bootyful."

I leaned down to reach his eye-level, "Thank you, baby. You be good for Uncle Mike and Frenchi, okay?" I stood back up and looked at them as Vic relayed the typical "parent rules" such as to call if there's any questions, or if something's wrong or any reason really if it concerns Jonah, to not let him stay up too late, no sex while he is awake and/or in the room, to feed him at this time, to make sure he brushes his teeth, that he doesn't mess with his puppy, Yoda, and that we'd be back shortly.

"Okay dad, fuck." Mike scoffed, rolling his eyes, earning a light hit from Frenchi who looked over at us and said, "I'll make sure that everything goes right."

She gave us a reassuring smile and I hugged her, then slapped Mike across the head before we walked out to Vic's car and drove off to the fancy restaurant across town. Once we arrived, we got to sit in the nicest booth ever, and they served us wine and appetizers. Vic and I talked about a lot of things, mainly the tour that was happening in a couple of weeks. He was so excited talking about the Collide With The Sky tour because they finally get to tour with Sleeping With Sirens, and two bands that I was liking so much, Tonight Alive, and Hands Like Houses. He told me the tickets were almost sold out, but I couldn't help but admire the twinkle in his eye when he spoke about all of this. The smile on his lips grew and he looked so genuinely happy that things were coming together and most importantly, he seemed so humble. But that was typical Vic for you.

"I was literally screaming when you guys got #1 on iTunes! I grabbed Alex and we just jumped around yelling." I told him of my excitement when I heard the news of their #1.

He laughed, "I could've cried. All our friends in other bands partied with us because of that. I never thought that would happen."

I sipped on my wine, "I did. I knew it would eventually. You guys have only gotten better, and it's nice that people are noticing."

He grinned, then licked his lips, biting them after a while. "Liv, I wanted to talk to you about something."

I looked up at him, "About what?"

"We've been back together for a while, and we are in love with each other, obviously, but I wanted to know your thoughts on getting married again someday?" He seemed nervous bringing up this topic, and I knew why. He knew I was skeptical about getting married for a second time in general- not just to him again.

I chewed on my lip, "I mean, I don't know, Vic."

He seemed uneasy about my response, "What do you mean, you don't know?"

I tried to explain, but I couldn't word it any way without coming off as mean. "It's just, I don't know. Aren't you concerned about the same things that ended our marriage a first time? Like, don't you have any fear that something may go wrong?"

He gestured his head backwards, obviously taken back by what I said. "Fear? I'm not scared of anything. We're not in that same spot anymore, Olivia. I thought we already talked about this and moved forward?"

"We did! But, as a non-married couple we discussed it. We've already been through it-"

"-Exactly!" He interrupted, anger coming off every word. "Which is why it makes sense this time around because we won't make the same mistakes as we did before."

"And, how do you know that, Vic? How do you know that things are just going to be picture perfect?"

"I'm not saying that it's going to be perfect, but I love you and you love me, and if we love each other, then that's the only reason. Yeah, we'll fight, but we'll get over it. We'll get through whatever life throws at us."

I clenched my teeth, feeling my jaw move in the process. Why did he have to bring this up right now?

I stayed silent and his eyes opened wide and he sighed, "Just a couple of weeks ago, you were talking about fucking having another kid, Liv. But, you're not willing to get married? And it not like you'll be getting married to just anybody, it's me."

"I didn't say that we should go and have a kid right now, I was simply asking if you've ever wanted more than one child! That's all I said! Why are you being like this?"

"I'm not being like anything, I just wanted to know if you'd ever want to get married to me again, and it's obvious that you don't." He looked down and started pushing the food on his plate around with his fork.

"Vic, look at me," He looked up at me with furrowed eyebrows, "I love you so much, I am so in love with you that it drives me insane, and I never said that I didn't want to marry you, because I would. I just don't think it's a good idea, right now."

He stayed quiet and looked back down at his plate. The waiter came and gave us the check and we left, going home earlier than planned, the silence in the car ride home, deafening us. When we walked back into the house, Jonah was already sleeping, so Vic went into Jonah's room and shut the door. I kicked off my heels and sat on the couch next to Mike and Frenchi.

"What happened?" He asked, confused at the situation.

Frenchi gave me one look and I felt my eyes water, "I don't even know what just happened."

"What happened, Liv?" She asked, hugging me, the tears falling slowly.

"He asked me what my thoughts were on getting married again, and I tried to explain that I was unsure because I was a little scared, because I am! And, he got really, really offended about my answer."

Frenchi rubbed my back and continued to hug me, and I mumbled, "What if that just fucked up everything?"

"Liv, you know damn well that that wouldn't ruin anything between you and my brother." Mike said. "Vic would wait 100 years if he had too, to get the chance to marry you, again."

"Yeah babe, you and Vic have a relationship that I've never seen before in my life. When you're ready, you're ready. I see why you have fears because that's what ended it the first time. He'll come around, sweetie." Frenchi said, hugging me.

I pulled away and looked at her, seeing Mike behind her smiling. I wiped my tears and said, "Thank you, guys. And Mike, she's a keeper."

She giggled and told me she loved me and I said it to both of them and went to Jonah's room. Vic was laying with Jonah in his bed, hugging him, lightly snoring. I picked up his shoes that he had taken off along with his hat and white button-up shirt from the floor, and bent over to kiss them both on the cheek, "I love you two more than anything."

I stood up taking his clothes and softly closing the door behind me. I went to my room and placed his clothes on the small couch that decorated the room, and got undressed, changing into Vic's navy blue t-shirt that read "Animal" in red lettering and grey shorts. I sighed once I climbed into bed, covering myself with the blankets, shutting my eyes closed, hoping tomorrow would hold a much better day.
