Somebody's Supposed To Fall In Love

Scream at the Drunken Moon

The dry, one hundred and six degree air is stifling and uncomfortable. I’m sitting on Casey’s lap, as he rests on an unused amp backstage. Pierce The Veil went on about thirteen minutes ago. Right now they are playing through The Boy Who Could Fly, which means they still have a few songs left. Bulls in the Bronx is next, and then King for a Day.

I watch from Casey’s lap as Mike plays his drums. He took his shirt off about five minutes ago and honestly, just watching him drives me crazy. To think that this idiot whipping his sweaty hair around and bouncing up and down on his stool is mine…? It’s the most amazing feeling I could ever ask for. Mike Fuentes is perfect and I love him with all my heart. Of course, he can’t know that yet. That’ll unintentionally slip out the next time I’m heavily intoxicated. As a matter of fact, I’m falling more in love with him everyday. Sometimes, I look back and know that this could end badly, because of who Mike is. But I can’t think afford to think that way right now.

After the show in Phoenix, Mike and I of course had sex again, but then we came back outside to grill dinner for everyone. It was quite the challenge, considering neither of us are wonderful cooks, but we made it. I mean, cooking is part of the rules by Tony and Jaime. We drank, smoked, laughed, told some funny stories, and then eventually got back onto the buses for our drive to Las Vegas. Mike climbed into bed with me around two in the morning and pulled my body into his, before kissing my bare shoulder and sighing tiredly.

As soon as they are done playing tonight, everyone is going back to the buses. Vic, Mike, and I are going to go see the Chriss Angel magic show at eight-thirty. Then we’re meeting Tony, Jaime, Casey, Johnny, and everyone else at PURE nightclub in Caesars Palace. I’m quite excited for tonight.

“Get him a mic pack! Someone get him a goddamn mic pack!” A guy with a pair of earphones on his head runs toward us, blocking both Casey and I’s view of the stage.

I raise and eyebrow and look up at Casey, who nudges me off his lap. “Who needs a mic?”

“Dunno.” He shrugs and then looks down at his phone. “Someone’s calling me… I’ll be right back. Stay here.”

I watch as he trots down the backstage steps, moving right pass Kellin Quinn. My eyes widen as Kellin strides toward me, wearing a red t-shirt and black jeans. He tucks a few pieces of hair behind an ear and then crosses his arms, stopping next to me and looking out at the stage.

What do I do? Should I say anything to him, or no? I want to say something, but I don’t want to seem like a stalker.

“Hey, sorry…” Kellin is suddenly facing me, his big eyes searching mine. “Do you know what song they’re on?”

“Um…” I swallow, my eyes still wide. “They’re finishing The Boy Who Could Fly…”

Kellin smirks and shakes his head. “No, no! I meant like what number song is this? Or how many more until King For A Day?”

My cheeks go red in embarrassment. “Oh! Right… You’re singing with them. They’re about to start Bulls in the Bronx and then you’re on.”

“Thanks…” He smiles and tilts his head slightly. “This might sound weird, but you look really familiar.”

“Well…” I swallow. “Mike and I...”

“Oh, that’s right….” Kellin takes a mic pack from someone and starts to clip it to his back pocket and feed it through his shirt, while still smiling. “You’re Lana… Vic said Mike follows you around like a little puppy dog.”

I twist my long ponytail, starting to laugh, as I feel more comfortable around him. “Kind of, but it’s cute...”

Kellin chuckles. “Well then, I guess you can consider me like a big brother or something, considering the Fuentes’ have practically adopted me.”

“Of course they have. You’re a child.” I smirk and cross my arms, leaning against the stage to watch everyone again.

“You’re a sassy little birdy, aren’t you?”

“Sometimes.” I glance back to Kellin, smiling. “I just want to watch them and you keep talking.”

“I understand.” He leans against the wall with me.

“I really like your music…” I lean into his ear, talking over the loud music. “You’re a lucky man too. You have a beautiful family.”

Kellin’s smile widen significantly. “That means a lot. Thanks, girl. I love and miss them so much.”

“They’re not touring with you?”

“No.” His head shakes, moving the pieces of his long hair. “Katelynne has her hands full right now. She’s visited once back in California and she’ll probably visit again toward the end. It’s just hard bringing the kids. Plus, I don’t want Copeland coming here…ever.” He laughs and pokes my belly. “Girls like you aren’t the best role models.”

“Hey!” I laugh and push him away. “Who’s being sassy now?!”

“I’m just kidding!” He reaches over and pinches one of my cheeks. “You’re like an innocent little baby! How tall are you?”

I roll my eyes. “Five-foot-four.”

Kellin bursts into laughter. “That is so adorable! I think my step kids are taller than you.”

“They are not.” I smirk and watch as Casey runs back up the stairs.

“What’s up, Quinny?” He holds his arms out and hugs Kellin playfully. “Happy to be in Vegas?”

“Hells yes.” Kellin grins. “Justin, Gabe, Jesse, and I are heading out tonight. Jack’s going to dinner with his girlfriend though… You guys should join us.”

“We’re going to Caesars later.” I smile. “You should come with us.”

“Ooh, really?” He bites down on his lip, thinking. “That’s actually a really good id—”

“Kellin! Kellin! Ten seconds…” The man with the earphones claps Kellin on the back.

“Thanks.” He fixes his hair one more time and raises his an eyebrow playfully. “Nice meeting you, beautiful. I’ll probably see you later.”

The warm shower water cascades down from my bare limbs and soapy hair. My iPod is playing on shuffle on the bathroom counter. Coincidentally, Lana Del Rey’s song Blue Jeans started playing a few seconds ago. When her Born to Die album came out, I was kind of obsessed with her music. So thinking nothing of it, I sing quietly as I rinse my hair.

When I’m finished, I hop out of the shower and wrap a towel around my body. Then I open the bathroom door and stride over to the suitcases. Vic, Mike, Tony, Jaime, some random woman, Johnny, Chris, Kellin, Jesse, Justin, and Gabe are all talking loudly and laughing in the front of the bus. There are literally people everywhere. My face immediately goes red, as I try to make it to my suitcase without being noticed.

“LANA!” Tony yells suddenly, making me flinch.

“What?” I straighten, accidentally bumping my head on Vic’s top bunk. “Jesus!” My hands automatically move up to the top of my wet head. Everyone in the room laughs and I roll my eyes, before pulling my short, yet long-sleeved, blue dress out of my suitcase.

“Do you always sing in the shower?” Jaime calls and I stride out into the main room, holding my towel in place tightly.

“Yeah, sorry.” I smirk, while carefully sitting back on Mike’s lap. Then I take the joint from between his lips and take a long drag. He just smiles and wraps his arms around my waist, setting his chin on my shoulder.

“You actually have a really good voice from what I could hear.” Kellin says, before leaning back against the couch and taking a sip from his red cup.

“You must be deaf then.” Vic says with a straight face.

My eyes lower and half of the bus turns to him. “You’re a dick…” I say after exhaling smoke and leaning back against Mike.

The corners of his mouth twitch and then shoot into a grin. “I’m just kidding, you have a beautiful voice.”

I laugh quietly. “Then we need to work on a song, Vic. No drums though…”

“Ooh, awkward.” Justin Hills stands up and moves over to the fridge, grabbing another beer. “Mike, are you and Vic sharing Lana? Like sister wives…”

“Hell, no. I’m not very good at sharing.” Mike pushes my hair to one side and rests his lips on the back of my neck. Then he pulls away and nudges me off his lap. “Go get dressed…”

“Yeah, before Tony start to hump your leg as he envisions you naked.” Casey laughs, but starts to choke on the smoke from his cigarette.

“Mmm.” Tony leans his head back and smirks.

“Shut the fuck up.” Mike points to Tony and then rounds on Casey, as I stand up. “Don’t encourage him! Ever since you fuckers walked in on us, Tony can’t stop talking about her.”

Jaime stands up and the woman next to him does the same. She has shoulder length black hair and pretty eyes. “Lana, wait, before you go back for another three hours, I wanted you to meet my girlfriend.”

My eyes widen, because I didn’t even know Jaime had a girlfriend until now. But then I smile and hold my hand out for her. “Aw, so nice to meet you!”

“I’m Jessica.” She grins and shakes my hand.

“Are you coming out with us tonight?”

Jessica shakes her head slowly. “I really wish I could, but—”

“She surprised me by coming, so we’re just gonna go out to eat.” Jaime throws one of his arms around her shoulder.

“Yeah…” She giggles. “I have a flight at eleven to go back home.”

“That sucks…” I sigh. “I wish you could stay too. I could use another woman to help me babysit these children.”

Jessica starts to laugh, but the rest of the bus immediately bursts into an uproar of booing and curse words. I roll my eyes and turn to them all, playfully motioning with my hands for them to quiet down. “Boys, boys, please! I’m going to have to separate you if you can’t keep indoor voices.”

“Oh, zip it!” Kellin yells, still trying not to laugh. “I’m practically old enough to be your dad!”

“I think Mike could be your grandfather.” Jesse grins and stands up, heading toward the bus door. The whole bus rolls in laughter again, except for Mike. He just sits there awkwardly, unsure of whether to laugh or be pissed at Jesse’s words.

“All of you can fuck off.” I smirk and turn, going back to the bathroom to change and put makeup on.

Vic hugs my neck as we wait for our drinks in the lobby of the Chriss Angel show. We have about ten more minutes until the show starts. Mike turns back around with a beer cup held between his lips and two Highballs in his hands. Vic takes the beer, but still holds me with an arm. “Where are our seats?”

Mike shrugs and hands me one of the whiskey drinks. Then he reaches into his jean pockets and pulls out three tickets. “The fourth row.”

“Holy shit.” I take a small sip of the drink and try to hide my reaction to its strong flavor. “How much did that cost, babe?”

“Doesn’t matter. I’m gonna win it back at the tables tonight anyway…” He takes a sip of his as well and raises an eyebrow. “Let’s go sit down, Vic... I don’t want to have people climbing over me and shit.”

“Of course you don’t, Michael.” Vic releases me and we start walking through the lobby, which is full of huge glass cases of amazingly detailed motorcycles. Mike stops occasionally to take a picture of some of them. Before we get to the door, there’s a silver motorcycle covered in skulls, which is not cased in glass.

Mike grins from ear to ear and turns, holding his phone out for Vic. “Take a picture of us.”

“Who’s us?” I smirk and stop, already halfway into the theatre.

“You and me! Come here…” He grabs my arms and pulls me back. “Just for Instagram! Please…?”

I groan and walk over to the perfectly shined machine. “Fine. What do you want me to do?”

“Get on it and look sexy.”

“You’re a pervert.” Vic mutters from behind the iPhone. “Hurry up, we’re holding up the line!”

“Move over…” I smile and push him out of the way, before climbing onto the bike seat and leaning over the handles. Mike then rests one of his hands on the left handle and gives a serious face. Inside, I’m laughing my ass off. He’s such a douchebag. But he’s my douchebag.

“Excellent.” Vic smirks and inspects the picture after he takes it. “It could be the cover of a porno DVD.”

“Fantastic!” Mike takes the phone and walks past us, going into the theatre. “I can’t wait to see the jealous comments on this one. Which filter do you think looks the best?”

I look up at Vic and roll my eyes, as Mike walks ahead. We both sigh before following him. “He’s your brother…” I smile sarcastically.

He sneers. “Yeah, but that’s your man. I feel bad for you.”

“What time is it?” I ask quietly, while running my fingers through Mike’s hair. His head is resting lazily on my chest, as we lie in one of the private cabanas on the roof. Loud dance music is playing outside and vibrating the floors.

“I don’t have a damn clue.” He laughs innocently and squints his eyes.
“Is my little Mikey tired?” I smirk and continue playing with his hair.
He nods. “And drunk as shit… I’m about to pass out.”

“I can’t pick you up, so that’s not the best idea.”

“Call Chriss Angel...” He mumbles. “He can do anything! Did you know he can cut a real person in half?”

Giggling, I hug my arms around his neck. “Baby, I was there. Vic and I both saw him cut the guy in half…”

Mike yawns loudly. “How are they going to put him back together, Lana? Who would volunteer for that?”

“It’s just a magic trick. I’m sure he’s walking around right now in one piece.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure… There was a lot of blood.” He snuggles closer to me and hugs my waist. “But I hope you don’t volunteer for anything that crazy… I love you! You’re so pretty and nice to me.”

My heart skips about three beats, because I know he’s completely bombed right now. Mike has no idea what he’s saying and he won’t remember saying those three words tomorrow morning. But how can he even think about saying that to me? It’s going to drive me crazy, because I want him to say it when he’s sober. Sighing, I pull his phone out of his back pocket and text Vic. They’re probably still downstairs at the bar, but I’m going to need some help getting Mike back to the bus. I might need some help walking as well.

I slide the phone back into Mike’s back pocket and lean closer, kissing his forehead. “I love you too, Mikey…”
