Dreamless In Early Graves

I don't ever wanna lose my best friend.

Parker's P.O.V

I rushed to where Aria was camped as fast as I could, I wasn't going to let her go off on her own. Not after everything she had been through, I was determined to help her find somewhere she could be happy and live her life to the fullest. Every time I looked at her I could just see the frail little girl I had to carry to the hospital. It was all because of him, Jason. I looked over at her, she was mesmerised by the fire and hated to break it seeing as she seemed so calm.
"Aria" I questioned
"Huh? Oh sorry I was just thinking"
"It's fine, I just got something to give you" I said softly as I reached into my backpack and pulled out a giftbox. I watched as she unwrapped it and exclaimed,
"Oh jesus Parker. It's amazing! It's exactly like the one my father gave me before..."
"I know, that's why I wanted to get it for you" She held in her hands an old fashioned camera which still used film, she'd had one before from her father. She used to carry it everywhere with her, well until the accident that was.
"It's 5 years today you know, since I lost him"
I didn't reply but simply pulled Aria into a hug.

I couldn't help but think back to that night, I got a call from Aria's mum saying there had been a terrible accident. Aria and her father, Ted, had been driving home from the zoo and a drunk driver hit the car. Ted was declared dead at the scene of the accident and Aria was rushed into hospital. She was in there for weeks and I sat with her every day and every night, every time she woke up all she could ask about was her camera. She had been holding it at the time of the accident but it was gone. Her mother fell off the tracks completely after finding out Ted was gone, she started abusing alcohol and drugs. A few months later she bought home this guy, Jason, said he was her new husband and Aria's new father. It became obvious he was beating both Aria and her mum, one night I got a call from Aria asking if I could take her to the hospital. He had thrown her down the stairs and she was so badly hurt she couldn't walk, she hadn't been eating and I remember having to pick her up in my arms and carry her into that hospital. From that day I vowed that I would make it my mission to look out for Aria, to try and protect her from any harm.
