Chapter 2: We Got This

I tapped my foot on the wooden floor out of nervousness as I stared at the white wall blankly. I had been moving my foot nervously for so long that I could feel my leg cramping. I stopped moving my leg to ease the pain a bit but then started tapping again. I couldn't even get comfortable sitting down on the couch.

"It turns blue if it's positive, right?" I heard Trista ask from the other side of the closed door. She sat in the bathroom awaiting the results of the home pregnancy test we had just gotten from CVS.

"Yeah. What's it say?" I asked, probably equally as nervous as she was.

She was younger than me, only 24. I could only imagine what was going through her head. She told me time and time again that she wasn't ready for kids yet and she had been on birth control for over a year.

I heard her fussing with the door and it opened. She stood there with the test in her hand. I couldn't read the look on her face.

"So...?" I kept my eyes locked with hers and stood up.

"It's positive." she sighed. She actually didn't seem to be as worried about it as she was before.

I looked at her confused. "You don't sound so stressed about it...?"

"I was stressed because I wasn't sure and now that I know I am, it sort of feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders." she said simply.

"Since when did you become so calm about life changing events?" I chuckled.

"Growing up, I guess." she smiled.

"So mature of you." I sat back down on the couch behind me and crossed my legs. "So, now that you have a little Fuentes growing inside you, what are you going to do? Like, are you going to keep it or...?"

Trista took a few steps towards the couch and sat next to me. "Well, first I have to tell Mike... but I'm not sure if I'm ready to yet."

I looked at her. "Yeah, understandable. Take your time to make your decision and figure out how to approach him about it. It's a big step in your relationship with him."

She nodded. "Yeah. I figured you'd be knocked up first."

I blushed. "What's that supposed to mean?!"

She chuckled and shrugged. "You and Tony have sex a lot."

"We do not!" I defended myself.

Trista raised an eyebrow at me. "You do so. That one week where Mike and I stayed over, we could hear you guys down the hall almost every night."

I blushed bright red. Were we really that loud? I guess we couldn't control ourselves sometimes... I shook the thoughts away as I began to bite my lower lip thinking about it.

"Okay, whatever. We fuck a lot. Big deal." I crossed my arms over my chest.

"... and you scream oh, Tony! Oh!" she imitated the sex noises directly into my ear, which made me blush even more. She had that down pretty accurately...

"At least you haven't walked in on me and Tony banging! I've seen more of Mike than I ever wanted to see." I scoffed. It was true.

"Well... well..." she tried to think of an argument, but obviously couldn't, so she shoved the pregnancy test near my face. "PEE STICK, PEE STICK!"

"Ew! Gross!" I jumped up and screeched, slightly grossed out that Trista was waving her pregnancy test in my face. What were best friends for?

After about an hour of just sitting around and talking, I headed home. There was a lot to take in and think about after today with Trista being pregnant with Mike's baby. She had to figure out how to tell him and depending on hoe he reacts if they keep the baby or not. On top of all of this, Tony and I had been talking about planning our wedding. Luckily we both agreed we didn't want to get married in a church and both liked the idea of a simple service with a reception after probably at our place. There was going to be lots of things going on within the next few months.

I pulled into my driveway and parked my car. After turning it off, I sat back in my seat for a moment just to think. I was only 26 and so much was happening. I jolted out of my slight trance from staring off into nothingness as my phone vibrated. I dug for it in my purse and looked at the notification in front. It was a text from a number I didn't have saved.

'I miss you...'

I looked slightly confused as I studied the number to see if I recognized it from somewhere. It was a local area code but the number didn't seem familiar. In this day and age you didn't have to remember phone numbers anymore because they were saved into your phone contacts with a simple swipe of the finger.

I shrugged it off and placed my phone back into my purse, assuming it was a wrong number. I opened the door to my car and got out. The chill in the air meant it was still early and also it would be winter soon. We didn't get much of a winter in Southern California. Mostly just 15 degrees cooler than normal and some rain from November to January.

I closed the car door and walked to the door of my house, unlocking it and walking in, hoping to spend the rest of the morning snuggling with my fiancé.
