This is The Street Youth Rising Up

Friends Forever

“Lead singer?” Vic asked me.
“I couldn't take on that responsibility.” He said.
“But you could be great.” I replied.
He looked down.
“Maybe, I'll think about it.” He said.
We started walking away.
“Wow, that was fun.” Tony said.
“Told ya.” I said.
He lightly punched me on the arm.
“Hey, kids, I just called my cousin who really likes your kind of music.” The principal said.
We all looked at him like he was weird.
“She knows a band manager, since she's in a band.” He said.
“You think she can get us a gig?” Mike asked.
“With your talent, it's very possible.” He replied.
We all looked at each other with excitement, as the principal wrote down the band manager's phone number and gave it to us. We called later that day at Vic and Mike's house and made an appointment to see him in a few days.
“Awesome!” I said, giving the guys a high five.
My mom and dad started calling me.
“Gotta go.” I said, heading home.
When I got home I told my parents how we made an appointment with an actual band manager, and how we could play concerts, and go on tour.
“Abbey.” My mom said.
“Yeah?” I said with a smile on my face, thinking about the band and everything band related.
“We're moving.” She said.
My smile went away.
“But we just moved here, my friends are here.” I said, as I started to tear up.
“Your dad got offered a promotion.” She told me. “He had to take it.”
“Of course he did.” I replied.
“Abbey!” She said, as I walked away into my room.
I put on a blue glittery dress and went to the cemetery. Somehow I found that to be my happy place, my place of peace. The sun was out that day, but the fog was still there.
I brought my blue-tooth speaker and my iPod with me, and played one of my favorite songs. 'Neptune' by Sleeping at Last. The music was beautiful, but somehow it hurt me more, the lyrics were so true. I wanted to tell Tony I loved him, but I didn't know how. I spent a good hour or two in the cemetery, ignoring all my calls and texts, just me and my music. Next thing I know, as I'm laying on the ground feeling the sun hit my face, I feel cool, I look up to see Tony standing next to me.
“Hey.” He said.
I sat up slowly.
“Hey.” I replied.
“What are you doing here?” He asked.
“Avoiding the world.” I said.
“By being with the dead?” He asked.
“I guess.” I replied with a chuckle.
“So what's going on?” He asked me.
I wanted to tell him everything, that my parents wouldn't let me be in the band, that we were moving again, that I loved him.
“I don't think I should be in the band.” I told him.
“What? Why not?” He asked me.
“Just. I'm too attached here, you know. If we ever go on tour, I might get homesick.” I said. “And I might hold you back.”
He looked at me and hugged me.
“You could never hold me back.” He said.
Hugging him back I started to cry.
A few days later the guys got a call from the band manager saying that he would like to hear them play. They went to an actual studio, and I went with them, just to witness what it was like, and they played a new song, called 'Fast Times at Clairemont High' and it sounded pretty good. The manager even said they could produce an album if they wanted to.
“Way to go guys!” I said, giving them all high fives.
“It's not the same without you.” Jaime said.
I looked down.
“Hey, we could get you to tour as an opening act next week.” The manager said.
“Cool, we'll take it.” Vic said.
Tony and I looked at each other, then smiled. I was going to miss him. That week passed by, and just like that, it was time for them to leave. I gave them all a hug goodbye, and when it was time to give Tony a hug, I looked at him for a second and hugged him and started walking away. I didn't want to connect, at all. It would hurt too much. I went to the cemetery, again, with my speaker and iPod in hand, and listened to the most beautiful song that was ever made, 'Death is the Road to Awe'. It was an instrumental, but intense. I brought out a razor blade I had in my backpack, and I started to cry as I put it to my wrist and the music intensified.
I couldn't do it.
I took a sigh of relief and looked up with tears in my eyes and felt the warm sun on my face and felt a breeze flow by. Peace. For now, I could enjoy it. I saw a figure walking towards me in the distance, so I stood up. It was Tony.
“Tony, what are you doing here? You have to tour.” I told him.
“Yeah. I also have to be with you.” He replied.
I smiled and hugged him, and as the song ended, it went onto the next, 'Surrender' by Natalie Taylor.
“SO 'Jane the Virgin'.” I thought to myself, smiling at Tony, finally kissing him again.
“I love you.” I told him.
“I love you too.” He replied.
We just sort of held each other and slow danced, in the cemetery, but it was okay, it was just us.
