Homecoming

I went to school the next morning and saw a flier on the school bulletin board that said homecoming was in a month. I thought for a second, maybe Tony would ask me, or I could ask him. No way. I saw Jaime over by the vending machine and walked over to him.
“Hey, Jaime.” I said.
“Hey, Abbey.” He replied, looking focused on what to get from the vending machine.
“So where's Tony?” I asked. “Aren't you two like the dynamic duo?”
“He's in the restroom.” He said.
He picked something to get from the machine and when it would give it to him he shook it violently.
“No! You ate my money!” He said.
I laughed, then saw Tony coming towards me.
“Hey.” He said.
“Hello.” I replied.
“Did you hear about homecoming?” He asked.
“Yep.” I said.
“Do you wanna go with me?” He asked me.
“Totally.” I replied, smiling afterwards.
I was still getting used to where my classes were, band was irritating as fuck, since I couldn't play a song I wanted to. During lunchtime I sat down with Tony and Jaime.
“So, Jaime? Do you have a date to homecoming?” I asked him.
“No, but there's this girl I want to ask.” He replied.
“What's her name?” I asked.
“Kayla. She's over there.” He said, pointing a few tables over.
“You better ask her before someone else asks her.” I said.
“She wouldn't say yes even if I asked her.” He replied.
“You don't know that.” I told him.
He continued eating his food and we went to our classes. In math class Jaime was super quiet. After class was over, we asked him what was up.
“I asked Kayla out, and she said no, thanks a lot Abbey.” He said.
I felt really guilty, so when I went I thought a lot about what to do, when it hit me, we could take Jaime to homecoming! I know it sounds crazy, but I could be his date, too! As a friend of course. I called Tony and he was okay with it, he just had to get Jaime in on it. A few hours later, Tony called me back saying Jaime was okay with it.
“Okay, cool. I'll pick out a dress.” I said.
I wasn't planning to go all out, I was saving that for prom. My mom and I went to a store that had everything you could think of, including prom dressed, so I had to choose from their selection. I wasn't very satisfied, until I saw a red dress with sparkles on it, mid-thigh.
“Whoa. Mom, check this out!” I said.
“Yep.” She said, barely looking at it.
I tried it on and bought it. The night of homecoming I heard a knock on my door and my dad went to get it, but I rushed to the door to stop him.
“Why are you all dressed up, Abbey?” He asked me. “Do you have a date?”
“I might.” I replied.
“Fine, have fun.” He said.
I didn't tell him about homecoming because I knew he would act this way. I opened the door and saw Tony and Jaime in their suits.
“Wow, you guys look good.” I said.
“You don't look too bad yourself.” Tony said.
I smiled.
“Okay, we need a few pictures.” I said, taking my phone out.
We took a few selfies and I took one of just them, and it was a really good picture of them. We went to homecoming and Tony and I were slow-dancing when I saw Jaime leaning his back against the wall, drinking some punch. After the song was over I told Tony I'd be right back.
“Where are you going?” He asked me.
“To request a song.” I replied.
After I requested the song 'Still Night' by Pretty Lights, I invited Jaime to dance with me.
“Come on, Jaime, time to dance.” I said.
He put his punch down and started to slow-dance with me.
“See if your moves are any match for mine.” I said, as soon as the song turned into a hip-hop-like beat. We started off doing a dance battle, then ending up dancing together. The whole school was watching, even the girl Jaime liked, Kayla, and she came up to us after the dance asking if she could dance with him.
“Sure.” I said, facing back to Tony.
“Hi.” He said.
“Hello.” I replied.
“Why do you always say 'Hello'?” He asked me.
“I don't know, I just do.” I replied.
