This is The Street Youth Rising Up

Clairemont High

My parents just transferred me to a different school because my dad got a job in California. Clairemont High School. I wasn't really looking forward to my first day there, but I went in with no expectations, from anyone. I learned to not expect anything and if you do get something you don't expect, that's just a surprise. As soon as I got into first period I sat down and I saw this really cute guy with black hair and gauges, a few tattoos even. A bad boy? His friend walked in and had an afro.
“Seriously? Who still has an afro?” I thought to myself.
I was doing my schoolwork but I couldn't stop looking at him, he was so cute, I was trying to look at his tattoos, until the teacher called on me.
“Abbey, do you have something you want to say to Tony?” She asked.
The whole class laughed, all expect him and his friend. Feeling my cheeks burn, I could tell I was blushing.
“No.” I said.
“Well you've certainly shown your interest in him.” She said.
The class laughed even harder, and I buried my face into my desk. After class was over, this cute Tony guy and his friend came up to me.
“Hey.” Tony said.
“I'm Tony, this is Jaime.” He said.
“Nice to meet you.” Jaime said, putting his hand out for me to shake.
I shook his hand.
“Nice to meet you, I'm Abbey.” I said, standing up.
“Abbey and Tony, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-” Jaime started singing, until Tony interrupted him with a look, like he was going to hurt him.
I started blushing after that, again.
“Do you need help finding your classes?” Tony asked me.
“Um, maybe, they gave me a map that might as well be foreign.” I said.
“Okay, so you have band next.” Tony said.
“Hey, you're with us!” Jaime said.
“Do you play anything?” Tony asked me.
“I play guitar and sing.” I replied.
“Cool.” Tony replied.
They took me to band class, and Tony got a hold of an electric guitar before I did.
“Sorry.” He said.
“It's cool.” I said. “I'll use the acoustic-electric.”
The teacher introduced me and told me I could play a song if I wanted to play one. I decided to play 'R U Mine' by Arctic Monkeys, and yes, I sang too. Apparently I was pretty good because the whole class clapped after I was done.
“Wow, you were great.” Tony said.
“Thanks, it's one of my favorite songs.” I replied.
“By a favorite band? Arctic Monkeys?” He asked.
I laughed. “No, I mostly listen to chillstep and rock.” I told him.
“Chillstep?” He asked me.
“It's like dubstep, but chill.” I explained.
We continued on with band class and learning all the songs, blah, blah, blah, I wanted to play all the songs I loved! Let's get some Evanescence or Flyleaf going on up in here! Ugh. Finally band class ended and I strummed the guitar like crazy, starting to play a song.
“What's that?” Tony asked.
“I don't know, I'm making it up as I go.” I said, and I have to say, it sounded pretty good, but putting down that guitar was tough. Tony and Jaime showed me to my next class, Biology.
“Good luck, we'll meet you back here and show you your other classes.” Tony said.
Tony and Jaime showed me to my first four classes and I had lunch with them.
“Thanks for showing me around, guys.” I said.
“No problem.” Jaime said.
“You'd probably do the same thing if Ms. Bitters went after us like that.” Tony said.
“Ms. Bitters?” I asked him.
“That's what we call her, she's like Ms. Bitters from Invader Zim, you know?” He said.
I barely remember Invader Zim from my childhood. We ate our food and the guys showed me to the rest of my classes, the last one being math, which we all had together. I'm glad I had three classes with these guys, they were cool. I went home and my dad asked me if I made any friends.
“Yep, two.” I told him.
“Were they girls?” He asked.
I knew if I told him they were guys he'd freak.
“Can't talk now, gotta do homework.” I said, going into my room and slamming my door shut.
I locked my door and turned my music on at a low volume as I was doing my homework, and thinking about Tony and Jaime. Mostly Tony.
