The Curse

Chapter 11: "The Drunken Moon"

“Vic? Claire?” Vic and I woke up with a start to the sound of Mike looking for us.

“Shit!” I said. There was a knock on the door, and the sound made me roll out of the bed. “Urgh,” I groaned. “Fuck,” I looked down, realizing I was still naked. Vic laughed at me when I pulled sheets from the bed over me. I stuck my tongue out at him.

“Vic, it’s two thirty in the afternoon if you don’t answer I’m coming in,” Mike threatened. I scuffled to the bathroom to hide.

“Yeah, man, I’m alive,” he yawned, and before I closed the door I saw him put his shirt back on.

“Sometimes I think I’m the older one,” Mike said, and I heard the bedroom door open.

“I’m just hung over,” Vic said.

“Where’s Claire?” he asked.

“The bathroom.”

“Hey, Mike!” I called from inside the bathroom, attempting to be nonchalant. I turned the water on to make it sound like I was washing my hands.

“What’s she doing in there?” Mike sounded suspicious. I got nervous because I realized my clothes were somewhere in Vic’s room. I prayed Mike didn’t find them.

“What do you think, moron?” Vic said calmly. “Washing her face or something, we had a sleepover, remember? Jaime and Tony should be somewhere, too,” he added.

“Oh,” Mike said.

“You got really drunk last night, man, that’s probably why you seem so lost right now,” Vic added, yawning.

“Oh, right. Well, we have to go on the road at four just so you know,” Mike said, and I imagined him shaking his head.

“Got it,” Vic said.

“Wait a second,” I heard Mike speak again. “What’s this?”

There was a pause. “That appears to be a shirt,” Vic said. I bit my lip.

“No, shit,” Mike said. “Why is Claire’s shirt in here?”

“I don’t know,” Vic replied. Not good enough, I thought to myself.

“Mhhm, what ever you say,” Mike said. Why was he being so annoying?

“I’ll see you later,” Vic said to Mike, forcing him out. I finally heard the door close, so I carefully exited the bathroom.

“He knows,” I said.

“Yeah, let him know, who cares,” Vic chuckled.

Vic rolled over so I could put on my bra and underwear in privacy, which made no sense considering we were just both naked together. I put my tank back on and stole a pair of his sweatpants, not interested in putting jeans back on.

“Thanks,” I mumble awkwardly, and then he rolls back over with his arms open wide. I crawl back into bed, never wanting to get out again.

“Are you excited to tour?” he asked into my hair.

“Yes,” I said. “I’ve never really traveled a lot in my life.”

“We play in Arizona, tomorrow,” Vic smiled. “It’s like a six hour bus ride,” he added. I groaned. “We always have fun on the bus, it’ll be fun!”

“Whatever you say,” I said, pecking his lips with mine. “I’m hungry,” I said, and this time I intentionally rolled out of bed. “Coming?”

He laughed, getting out of bed, too.

I walked out of his room and tried to avoid eye contact with Mike, sitting next to Tony who was eating Lucky Charms.

“Oo, my favorite!” I said, pouring myself a bowl.

“Hey, are you guys all packed? We were thinking about leaving early due to the summer storms rolling in,” our tour manager walked into Vic and Mike’s house—I guessed they had an open house for all Pierce the Veil band and crew members, because people were constantly in and out. “Just woke up, eh?” he nodded over to us eating breakfast at three in the afternoon. We smiled.

“When do you want to leave?” Tony asked in between scoops.

“Er, we were anticipating that you guys would be ready now,” he said.

“Well, I’m all packed. I can leave whenever,” I said.

“Yeah, same,” Mike said.

Jaime, whose head has been on the table, raised an arm and made the “okay” symbol with his hand. He must have had a rough night. I chuckled.

“Yeah, we’re all ready,” Tony and Vic gave the okay, also.

“Sweet, bus in ten. Severe storms headed our way, so we want to get out of the way as soon as possible,” he said again.

“Alright,” we said.

We finished last minute packing, double-checked that we had all of our equipment, and then we piled into the bus.

“Claire, I’m offended you didn’t bring the Hi-me bear,” Jaime frowned. We had named the over sized stuff animal High-meeee, a more exaggerated version of Jaime.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t want to lose him, and there’s no room,” I said.

“Whatever,” he crossed his arms and turned his back on me.

“Besides, I have the real Hi-me, anyway,” I said, attacking him with a hug.

“Let’s play a game,” Mike said when we were finally on our way. We all sat on the floor of the bus in a circle. I sat next to Vic and Tony.

“What kind of game?” Jaime asked.

“How about truth or dare?” Mike suggested. Ugh, I could see where this was going. Trying to bother his older brother, I suppose.

“What are we, twelve?” I laugh.

“Well, let’s see: Mike likes Harry Potter, Tony likes Star Wars, and Jaime just learned last month how to stop, drop, and roll. So, yes, I think some of us are twelve,” Vic laughed.

“Let’s do it,” Tony said enthusiastically, stretching his mouth into his adorable grin.

“I’ll go first,” Jaime said. “Hmm… okay… Mike! Truth or dare?”

“Er… truth,” he said. We all coughed ‘pussy’ under our breaths. “Yeah, yeah, fuck all of you,” he said.

“Alright, let’s see,” Jaime pondered for a moment. “If you had the power to be invisible for a day, what would you do?”

This time we all coughed ‘gay’ under our breaths. “I’m sorry! I can never think of truth questions,” he said.

“I would spy on Vic, mostly,” Mike said, a mischievous grin stretching across his face. Vic punched his arm.

“Okay Mike your turn,” Jaime said.

“Can we make this more interesting, first?” Mike got up, and then he returned with a handle of vodka.

“Yay, now we aren’t twelve anymore,” I playfully scoffed at Mike.
“You have to take a shot right before you answer a question or do a dare,” he instructed, passing out shot glasses to each of us.

I shrugged my shoulders. “Sweet.”

“Alright, so… Bear, Truth or Dare?”

“Dare,” I said firmly.

“Mike she has more balls than you!” Tony said.

“Shut up. Okay,” he thought for a second. “Kiss Jaime,” he said finally.

I saw Vic send Mike daggers with his eyes.

“Alright, come here,” I said to Jaime. He leaned over, but then Mike reminded me to take my shot.
I took it, and then I kissed Jaime. It would’ve been just a peck if Mike hadn’t held our heads together. I rolled my eyes when he let us free.

“Asshole,” I said.

“Don’t act like you didn’t like it, bear,” Jaime winked. I flipped him off, then we all laughed.

We continued playing truth or dare, asking silly things and daring even sillier things, and by the time we were getting sick of the game, everything was blurry and tainted with drunkenness. I was beginning to get so wasted I had to lean onto Vic for support.

“Okay, last one, Claire,” Mike slurred. “Truth or dare?”

“Dare, obviously,” I said.

“Mkay, uhhh…” he sat thinking for a minute.

“Any day now,” Vic said.

“Alright, just for that… Claire I dare you to make out with Vic. There must be tongue,” he said.

“What are you trying to pull, Mike?” Vic got into his face.

“Relax, it’s just a dare. I couldn’t think of anything else. My brain is wired pervertedly,” he said, pointing at his head and frowning. Mike was actually not a pervert or an asshole. Ever. And “pervertedly” wasn’t even a word. I wondered what had gotten into him tonight. I didn’t worry, though, because Tony was passed out and Jaime was singing to himself on the floor. And Mike practically knew already, anyway, so I took my final shot and leaned closer to Vic.

I kissed him, this time we were both sloppy. We kept kissing each other harder and harder, until we were on the floor. Mike wasn’t even watching; he was playing the drums on Jaime’s head. So, I disregarded him.

I ran my fingers through his hair as our drunken mouths collided. We half-stood up, and then we stumbled over to the bunks in the back of the bus, closing the divider. We collapsed into Vic’s lower bunk, closing the curtain. It was a tight space for the both of us, but it allowed me to be closer to him. I wrapped my legs around him as he kissed my neck.

I heard the divider of the bus open. From what I could tell, it was Jaime, and I heard him collapse into the bunk above me and Vic. Vic made a sad puppy face. We weren’t alone anymore; I don’t think either of us was sober enough to control possible moans. Vic rolled over with me, so my back was against the wall of the bus and he was facing me. I slipped my arms through his, and we passed out together, huddled very close.
