Baby, I Could Burn You Down

One

BEFORE

"You're stupid." I cried, playfully shoving my husband away from me. Vic smirked at me, then grabbed my hips and pulled me in. He tangled his hands within my hair, kissing me with an amazing about of force. I broke the kiss, then took a big drink of the beer I was holding in my left hand.
"Let's go outside!" I said, twisting myself out of Vic's arms and walking to the balcony door. I swung it open, the warm summer air hitting my face. I leaned against the railing of the balcony and took another big drink. Vic walked over to me, his hands touching my bare thigh. They traveled up to my flannel and starting slowly unbuttoning it. Vic pressed his lips against my neck, pecking as he unbuttoned.
"Don't try to take advantage of me just because I'm drunk." I slurred, giggling from the kisses that were now tickling my neck.
"I'm drunk too, and I would never take advantage of you."
He unbuttoned the last button, and then stepped away to stare at me. "Ella, you're so beautiful."
Before I could respond, his lips collided with mine. I tugged on his t-shirt, craving more of him. We've been together for five years and married for two, and I'm still into Victor Fuentes. I'm okay with that.
Vic pulled away. "Let's have sex on the balcony." He whispered, his nose pressed against mine.
"I don't think you've ever had a better idea."
While Vic worked on taking his belt off, I stared up at the stars. Space is such a funny concept.
My hands slipped back a little.
Like, there are so many stars! More than we'll ever know!
The empty beer bottle fell off the ledge.
There's so many planet, too!
The glass shattered against the concrete.
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars...
My hands slipped off the edge and I lost my balance. I tried to stand up, but the majority of my body weight was depending on my hands, sending me backwards off the ledge.

"Ella!" Vic cried.
Everything went black.

AFTER

There was an annoying beeping noise occurring to my left. I kept my eyes shut, even though I was fully awake.
"Ugh!" I heard a frustrated man exclaimed from the foot of my bed. He grasped onto my thigh, and I'm not sure I liked that. "If one more doctor comes back with 'no news', I swear I'll-"
"Do nothing." A female voice finished. Wait, I recognize this voice. "You'll do nothing because they're trying their best to help us. You know Ella wouldn't want you to yell at them."
She knows my name, and I know her voice.
"No, Ella would want to yell at them herself."
The woman laughed. "You're right about that."
Who is she...
The man sighed deeply. "How much longer do you think she'll be asleep, Lynn?" The man was now rubbing my thigh.
Wait a second.
Lynn.
My eyes shot open quick. On the left side on the bed sat a man with a baseball hat turned backwards. He had a handsome face, and was staring at my thigh as if it were about to tell him his fortune. On the right side stood a woman with long brown hair, dressed in all black. Her hazel eyes met mine.
"Ella." She said softly.
My eyes began to water as my sister wrapped her arms around me, pulling me into a sitting position to hug me. I clutched onto her and sobbed, so happy to see my baby sister and yet, so confused.
"Are you okay?" Lynn asked, pulling away from the hug and grasping my face. "How do you feel?"
"Confused." I said honestly. My voice was raspy and soft, as if I hadn't spoken in a few days. "When did you do that to your eyebrows?" I asked. I went to rub my left hand, and when I did, I felt a huge stone on my ring finger. I glanced down at it just was Lynn raised her eyebrow at me. Where did this ring come from...
Lynn glanced at the man at the foot of the bed, who was now standing with a look of concern on his face.
"Ella, what's the last thing you remember?" Lynn asked.
I racked my brain, finding the answer quickly. "You and mom had just helped me move into my dorm at UCLA." I said.
Lynn's jaw dropped. She stepped back, running her fingers through her hair. Why is Lyndsey acting like this? Is she still upset that I moved into the dorm?
I don't really care how Lynn feels right now, I still have unanswered questions.
"Lynn?" I said. Lynn looked back up at me. "Do you know who gave me this ring?" I asked, holding up my left hand.
"Oh no..." Lynn whined softly, then she began to cry. What is her problem?
"I did." The man at the foot of the bed said, his voice and body both shaking. "I gave it to you. We're married."
