Slaves To Substance

"So. What should we do now..?" Tony asked as he looked at me. I looked at him and sighed quietly.

"We should head to my place. I wanna check on Lilith and pack a little more clothes. But mainly see Lilith. She's probably super worried and I wanna be there to calm her down. ." I replied as I got up from the couch. Turns out tony didn't live alone. He lived with his friend Jaxin Hall and his pregnant wife Natalie. I didn't want the hunt to find where tony lived. Especially since the guy lived with two happy people with a baby on the way.

"Lilith knows about you being immortal. .?" Tony asked with a hint of surprise in his tone.

I nod, "she knows about me hiding from the hunt, Envy, me being a rare immortal. She knows it all." I said casually as tony grabbed the black bookbag he had packed some clothes and a first aid kit and other useful things in and slipped the straps onto his shoulders; following me to the door.

"Wow. I guess today I gotta spill the beans to her too. ." Tony mumbled as he took his car keys from his pocket and followed me to the front door.

"You haven't told her about you being an immortal??" I questioned and raised an eyebrow at the young man who shrugged and shook his head no.

"I've kept it below the radar with pretty much anything and anyone for so long. I just figured if anything did happen I'd keep to myself. Especially around Lili, you know?" Tony explained as he walked to the drivers side of his fancy-looking black car as I waltzed to the passenger side. He unlocked the doors and we slid into our seats.

"I get it. That's actually really smart. And I know how Lilith is so I can't really protest." I sigh in response to his explanation. Tony nodded and pushed the key into the ignition and turned it, causing the car to roar to life.

"Does anyone else know your immortal rei?" Tone then asked curiously.

I shook my head, "it's just Lilith. And you." I said as he pulled out of the driveway and started cruising down the empty street.

"Do your parents know?" Tony then asked as he glanced at me then back at the road. I simply let out a "no". It was silent for a bit. Until tony spoke up again.

"Will these. .will these hunt people threaten to take the lives of ones around us. .?" He asked very cautiously. I heard the slight shakiness in his melodic voice.

I tried to swallow the lump in my throat as I nodded slowly, "yes. .they'll do anything. They'll do what they can to get me, you, anyone. Anyone we have relations with the hunt will add them to their list." I exclaimed as a chill went down my spine. I hated knowing that. But, it'd be worse if I didn't.

"Jesus Christ.." Tony muttered as his grip slowly tightened on the steering wheel slowly. I sensed his anxiety. His worries. It made me feel even worse that his life seemed to now put everyone he knew in danger. When just before. .it didn't.

"Nothing will come to that tony. Not with me or you. I promise you that. Fight for the people you love, fight for the people you care for, fight for the ones that you want to live to see another day." I said a bit firmly as a boil of determination ran through my veins. That was a saying that always kept me going. It always gave me reason to never back down.To never quit. Because in this situation I know I can't back down that easily. I have to be serious. I have to be brave. I have to be wise. I have to be strong. And when I have my limits I know I can allow myself to let myself fall and when I feel better I can rise again.

Tony glanced at me with some shock and impression in his eyes. I blushed a little and looked out of the front-view window.

Tony and I waltzed into my apartment. The drive here wasn't bad, and not awkward ether. Tony and I started small talk. It was casual. Nice. Calming. The discussion was consisted of flirting and some shy moments towards one another here and there.

"I'm gonna go grab some stuff real quick." I stated and smiled as he nodded and sent a cute smile back. I walked to my bedroom and went into my drawers and pulled out some undergarments. I then shoved them in my bag and walked to my closet and pulled out a pair of black hiking loose military cargo pants and a grey tank top and a black one as well. I shoved those into my bag and pulled out my converse, setting them on the floor and replacing them with my black sturdy ankle high, combat boots. They were tough enough to kick a door down and could go through any situation without a problem.

I walked out of the room after zipping up my bag, hearing a frantic voice babbling away. I rushed into the living room to see a panicked and extremely worried Lilith. She looked over and peered at me.

"Thank god you're okay! Tony told me everything that happened. Jesus, your cheek what happened?! And Your neck! Why didn't you call me! I was so worried!" Lilith badgered as she examined my left cheek, my neck, and part of my exposed arms.

"Envy came unexpectedly, everything was fine before. I don't want you in those situations Lili. You're my best friend I can't lose you." I said softly and looked down at my small feet. The feeling of guilt weighed down on me more. Lilith sighed.

"Lili. .We've gotta set out somewhere else. . We need you to stay put. And we'll check in on you whenever the time is right." Tony explained softly. I looked up to see lili's back facing me as she now looked at tony.

"I understand. But, when you say we does that mean?...." Lilith began and I spoke up.

"Yes. . Tony's immortal too." I sigh.

Lilith's eyes grow wide as she looked at me then at tony.

"You never told me." Lili said quietly.

"I just figured that if I keep it below the radar for now, I wouldn't bring anyone into any situations like this. ." Tony said slowly and rubbed the back his neck. Lilith sighed again.

"Envy saw me with him and after I made her pass out at the park we ran off way before she got the chance to regain any conciseness. Ether way she probably went back to the hunt's hideout and told others about tony and I. Their suspicions are probably at a high since they possibly know about a immortal hanging around a "regular" person." I explained as tony nodded in agreement.

"I understand. I'm sorry for my outburst. But, please guys. Just keep me posted and come back safe. You're my best friends and I can't lose you both ether." Lili spoke in a gentle tone as she hugged us both tightly. My eyes welled up with tears.

"We'll be safe Lili. I'll be safe. I promise." I whispered shakily and hugged her back gently. She was an inch taller then me.

Tony and I pulled away from Lili and walked out of my apartment after she returned to her own. This was hard for me. But I knew it was for the best.

I slid into the passenger seat and sighed shakily, letting some tears escape my eyes as tony slid into the drivers seat. He started the car and with that we drove off. Tony's hand found mine and held it gently. I held his warm hand as he brought it to his lips and kissed it.

"Let's find a hotel." Tony said as he squeezed my hand lightly and kept his pained eyes on the road.
