Creeping in the shadows

I get off the plane and find my luggage before heading outside to find my cousin Michael.
He is supposed to pick me up from the airport, I agreed to come here for the summer just to escape life hoping California, would be different. I have time to kill and a few months till I start my senior year.

I sat on my purple suitcase for what felt like forever, I tend to pack light, then finally I see him! He ran up and hugged me, oh how I've missed him, he's like my cousin, best friend, and brother all in one.

''about time you came back to me.'' He said cheerfully while spinning me around, I couldn't help but giggle and feel happy.....real happiness, good, I need away from old habits.

''well can we go? Cuz I'm jet legged and could use some SERIOUS sleep.'' I over exaggerated the 'serious'.

''yeah, I'll throw your stuff in the back and we can happily go.'' He said as I hopped in the car soon to be followed by him jumping into the drivers seat.

I did nothing but stare out the window the whole time just empty stares, thinking of nothing, as if i was a passing second and the world was in fast forward....I was soon snapped back to reality when Michael, opened his door.

I stepped out of the blue car into the California, sun. Damn it was beautiful here, I couldn't help but stare at the sky when suddenly someone waved their hands in my face.

''Huh?'' I said lost looking at someone I've never seen before? He was super tall with gauges, he wore a snap back, damn he had a lot of tattoos, obviously he's Mexican.

''She's just staring at me, do I stand still and hope that 'it' wont notice me?'' he said with sarcastic fear. I already wanted the world to disappear again....and punch this guy for calling me an 'it'.

''Mike! Be nice she's Michael's, cousin.'' said a shorter looking Mexican with hair to his shoulders, and these eyes that made him look almost innocent.

''Whatever little bro.'' Who I'm assuming is Mike, said to the shorter Mexican then it clicked...he just said little brother?

I began laughing uncontrollably "Did you just 'Ahhhaaa' say 'pfftthaaa' little brother? AHAHA''

''I can't help the I'm shorter!'' said the littler Mexican, clearly not shocked at my reaction.

I don't know why I found it funny I just kinda did. My laughter soon got interrupted my Michael.

"I hate to kill your vibe but meet Vic," he said pointing to the little Mexican "and his little brother Mike." he patted them each on the back. ''Guys meet my cousin Jess.'' He said gesturing to me.

"So, who exactly are you two?" I said gesturing to Vic, and Mike.

''I'm the man of your dreams." Mike said as he smoothly put his arm around.

"Dream on." I said while walking out from under his grip to Michael.

''They're our neighbors across the street and my best friends." Michael pipped up and said.

"Well I'm just gonna take my bag up and fall asleep so, peace out." I said in a yawn as i walked away.

I lied in the bed restlessly, I'm so tired and can't sleep. That Mike, guy was kinda creepy but Vic, barley said a word so I don't know how to describe him.
I want to sleep but can't, I just hope that tomorrow is different.

Remember Jess, things here will be different so sleepless nights are going to happen with everything changing...well, hopefully changing.
