I'll be the Brightest, You'll See

"Hey said what?" Alysha almost spat her water out, she began choking a little but composed herself as quickly as possible.

"Marry me." I stated again, feeling so dumb for thinking anything of it.

"What did you say?" She furrowed her eyebrows.

"Nothing, he was half asleep when he asked me." I shrugged, sitting back into the chair I was on. We were sat in the kitchen at the breakfast table.

"Okay this is big, if he was sleeping when he said it maybe it's because he wants to ask you but he isn't sure about it yet." She point out. I mean yes, I can understand that but honestly, isn't it a little soon. We've only been back together for about a month and things have been kinda... hectic. I don't wanna get my hopes up but I kinda want him to actually propose to me.

"Right now I just wanna focus on the fact that my parents have disappeared into thin air with my child." I let out a shaky breath.

"My mom is so shocked and upset about this whole thing. She doesn't understand why her own sister would do this." Alysha said looking down at the table in front of her.

"I'm kinda shocked she would do this to her own daughter but hey, we are all getting surprises these days." I said bitterly, which I regretted instantly because Alysha was just trying to help me. "Sorry, I don't mean to be a total bitch." I told her.

"It's okay, I understand things are difficult right now." She smiled at me. Silence fell between us which got me thinking. Why did Vic say marry me? Like really, isn't that so odd. After all he went through, that's his response to it; to marry him? It's crazy.

"Do you think he really wants to marry me?" I asked, feeling curious.

"Honestly?" She raised one eyebrow, I just nodded and waited for the reply. "Yes. One hundred times over." She had a huge grin on her face.

"How do you know though?" I frowned a little.

"Mike told me all about your relationship in high school, how you hated each other but underneath, it was very clear that you two loved each other deadly." She sighed happily. "I couldn't imagine Vic looking at anyone else the way he looks at you and vice versa." She took another drink of her water, this time successfully swallowing it without choking.

"I just feel like if we rush things, we might screw it all up." I placed my elbows onto the table and rubbed my face with my hands.

"Scarlett, you're looking for your long lost child together. I don't think you get anymore family based than that, I bet this whole child thing has just secured the fact he wants to be with you." She said rationally. I can't help but think she is right because it sounds so accurate.

"You're probably right but I don't wanna screw it up by asking about the marry me thing." I sighed.

"Well don't, you don't have to mention it and if he's serious then he will mention it himself." She told me, sounding so smart.

"Thanks for being here every time I've needed someone to cry about my life to." I smiled back at her.

"Anytime, plus soon enough Mike is gonna be annoying me and I'll need someone to do the same with so." She laughed, it made me smile that she wanted to be with Mike for as long as she possibly could.

Vic's P.O.V

"You said what?" Mike raised his eyebrows in a totally surprised and shocked way.

"I'm such an idiot." I groaned, throwing my face into my hands.

"Did you mean it?" He asked.

"No... Yes? Maybe? I really don't know anymore." I sighed loudly.

"Why did you say it then?" He sounded more calm now. I lifted my head out of my hands and looked at him.

"You know when you're falling asleep and you just kinda do or say something subconsciously? Yeah well that's kinda what happened but as soon as the words left my mouth I realised what I had said and it literally turned my blood cold. I just pretended to be completely asleep to avoid the humiliation and awkwardness." I explained.

"What an idiot." Mike began laughing and shaking his head at me.

"I'm not an idiot." I gave him a serious look.

"You are a little, especially since you kinda proposed in your sleep to your girlfriend." Mike giggled even more.

"I will literally beat your ass if you don't shut up." I said rolling my eyes at him.

"Anyway, what did the police say?" Mike asked, he knew I spoke to a detective today but he didn't know the details.

"Basically, there's nothing they can do unless they're in American soil. I dunno where they are but things are gonna be extremely touch and go until we can even think about finding them." I sighed.

"How did Scarlett take it all?" Mike questioned.

"Well, shockingly. But I wouldn't be surprised if in a day she has like a huge break down." I said rubbing my eyes, feeling them began to get heavy again.

"I honestly think everything is going to be okay, like it might take a while but you guys are gonna find her." Mike tried to reassure me.

"I hope so." I said softly. There was a knock on my bedroom door and we both looked at it. "Come in." I called out. The door opened and Scarlett walked in, a small smile on her face.

"Hey, can we talk?" She said so quietly. I looked at Mike and he got up off the bed and walked out of the room, he patted Scarlett on the shoulder and then closed the door behind him.

"What's up?" I asked her, she walked over and sat down on the bed next to me.

"We kinda have to talk about the other night Vic." She said quietly, staring at the carpet.

"Oh, okay." I mumbled, feeling my cheeks begin to flush. Even after all these years she still has this goddamn effect on me.

"You said marry me after I told you I love you, why is that?" She asked sheepishly, I could tell from the tone in her voice that she was just as nervous and awkward about the situation as I was.

"I don't really know, I'm not gonna lie and say I've been planning to propose to you since we got back together because I haven't." I explained, feeling like my stomach was jumping into my throat. "But I'd be lying if I said it didn't cross my mind from time to time, it genuinely has and just in that moment I kinda remembered why it ever did float through my mind." I told her. She finally looked up and instead of disappointment, her face was beaming with the most beautiful smile.

"I'm glad you told me this okay." She grinned at me, as she stared into my eyes waiting for my response she bit her lip. Something that always made her look incredibly cute. So instead of being the awkward guy who is too scared to really do anything, I reached out to her and pulled her into my arms.

"I'm so in love with you and I kinda have been for so many years, I'm not saying that right now I wanna get married but one day I want you to be the girl I call my wife, I don't think I've ever wanted anything as much in my whole life." I told her, I could feel her breath on my neck which kinda sent shivers down my spine but in a totally sensual way. It kinda turned me on actually.

She began kissing my neck softly, which always sent me into a whole new universe. I honestly don't think anyone has ever made me feel the way I do when Scarlett is around me. She stopped kissing me and looked up to my eyes, staring into them. "I love you." She said so beautifully.

"I love you too." I told her, meaning every singe word.

Sorry I haven't updated as much but I've been working with a magazine this past few weeks! It's an up and coming music magazine and I'm actually gonna be photographing state champs tomorrow night, wish me luck!
