I'll be the Brightest, You'll See

She's Mine

One day earlier...

Vic's P.O.V

After two weeks of convincing myself that I should go to the address that I was given, I was finally here, parked across the street staring at the huge, suburban house that my daughter was living inside of.

It's kinda funny because I never thought I'd get this far, I never thought I'd find her but here I am. The scary thing is now what do I do? Do I just go up to the house and explain the situation or do I just watch from a far? That sounds a little creepy though. I don't know what to do.

The front door suddenly opened and my eyes widened... Scarlett's mom strolled down the pathway to the mailbox. My heart began to pound in my chest and it all clicked into place. "Mommy." A little girl's voice called from the doorway and I turned my attention to her.

She looked exactly like Scarlett did as a kid but with my skin tone. She had brown hair down her back and was so tiny. "Aria what's wrong?" Scarlett's mom replied to the girl who was now skipping down the pathway.

"I fell when I was out in the back yard and hurt my knee." She said with a sad look on her face.

"It's okay, we will get your fixed up now." Scarlett's mom took the child's hand in hers and they began to walk back towards the house.

I quickly opened the car door and got out, my feet were making the decisions for me today because I sure as Hell didn't want to do this. "Hey!" I shouted towards them. Scarlett's mom turned around and her eyes widened when she realised it was me. I caught up with them and the little girl Aria stared up at me.

"Go inside Aria." Alice (Scarlett's mom) told the little girl. She did as she was told and it broke my heart a little. Scarlett was right, she does have my eyes. "What are you doing here?" Alice growled at me as soon as Aria was inside the house.

"Looking for my daughter!" I snapped at her, making her flinch.

"Well you're gonna have to look somewhere else Vic because you've got it all wrong." She said was a strange look on her face, does she really think I'm gonna buy that?

"Cut the bullshit, why did you take our child?" I asked her, crossing my arms over my chest.

"I didn't take her. Scarlett wasn't fit to be a mother and I didn't want to lose my granddaughter into the system so I decided to do what was best." She tried to explain. "I fake the adoption papers and we moved up here because there was no way we could keep her without Scarlett's permission in the U.S." She said.

"So you fled the country and have been raising my daughter as your own? You do realise that there is no proof she's your child right now and I could easily call the cops and tell them you've kidnapped my daughter?" I explained to her. Her face fell, realising I was right.

"I know but are you going to put her through that?" She pleaded with me.

"No because I want what is best for her but I can't keep this from Scarlett." I sighed.

"Please don't tell her." Alice begged. I shook my head no, I couldn't do that to her.

"What about Kiera? Why did you just up and leave your 14 year old daughter?" I asked curiously.

"She wanted to stay with Ali, so we let her." Alice looked at her feet.

"So I'm to believe that a mother left her 14 year old daughter in San Diego with her 20 year old sister and her 18 year old sister in a mental institute, to live in Canada with said daughters child without permission? Give me one good reason why I shouldn't contact the police?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Mommy, why did that man call himself my daddy?" A small voice interrupted us. We both looked back to see Aria standing on the porch staring at us.

Alice was at a loss for words, she didn't know what to say. "Aria please go inside." She shooed her away but Aria looked back at me, her tiny eyes filled with confusion and hope. I don't know which one hurt more to see.

Alice walked back towards me with a furious look on her face. "She if going to ask questions now, you can't hide this forever." I told her, fury beginning to build up.

"Leave now." She instructed me.

"No, I won't." I told her, standing firmly on the spot.

"I'm getting my husband." She told me. I rolled my eyes and she called him, what's he really gonna do? So I counter acted her action and decided to call Scarlett.

The last few times I tried to call her she didn't answer so I just pray she answers this time. After a few seconds of ringing, she picked up. "Scarlett, why have you been so difficult to get a hold of?" I asked her, slightly annoyed.

"Sorry I took a vacation while you were away." She said casually.

"Okay but I need to speak to you seriously for a second and you can't be mad at me." I told her.

"I can't promise it if I don't know what it is." She said softly.

"Just try okay." I groaned, getting frustrated.

"Okay." She sighed.

"You know how I've been writing for the new album so I took a trip?" I said after taking a huge breath.

"Yep." She said popping the p.

"Well, I kinda lied to you okay." I started, Alice was staring at me now. "I tracked her down Scarlett. I know where she is and it's gonna shock and piss you off." The nerves were getting bad.

"Where is she?" She asked sternly.

"Your parents house in Canada." I said softly. I could hear her breathing and she sounded stiff.

"Are you there now?" She asked me frantically.

"Yeah I am." I told her. A car pulled up and her father got out, an angry look on his face.

"Vic is that my dad?" I heard her ask but I couldn't reply, I lowered the phone from my ear and placed it at my side.

"Get out of here or I will kill you." Her said marching up to me. I wasn't intimidated this time, nothing he could say or do would scare me.

"I'm not going anywhere until you hand my daughter back over." I said sternly. He didn't like that at all. He took a swing at me and I moved out of the way, pushing him down onto the ground, dropping my phone in the process. "I swear to God, if you dare think you're gonna beat me up again you better think differently. Things are different now. I'm not a little boy anymore and I'm here to take my daughter back, where she belongs. If you don't step down and give her back I will sue you for everything you've got because you're guilty of kidnap. What's it to be?" I spat down at him. He slowly rose to his feet, staring at me.

"You finally manned up Vic, I'm proud of you but you're not taking that child." He said, stepping forward and towering over me. "You're gonna have to go back empty handed and tell Scarlett that she will never get to see her child." He was trying to sound scary but he wasn't scaring me.

"I'll die before I leave without her." I spat at him. He squinted his eyes and me and then laughed. One blow to the head and I was out cold, everything faded to black and I felt like my heart was slowing down. Is this what it feels like to die?
