I Introduce The Selfish Machine

Twenty

I felt my blood start to boil. How could Tony not tell me that?

I lifted myself out of the basket. Samantha was a least five inches taller than me, so her hazel eyes were staring down at me. I looked from Tony and Samantha, and then bit my lip.

“Seriously?” I asked, looking at Samantha, but Tony knew I was talking to him.

Samantha flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder and just gave me the bitchiest smirk I’d ever seen.

I heard Tony sigh behind me. “Piper, I’m sorry I never told you about this.” He said. He expected me to turn around, but I just stared up at Samantha. My head filled with questions, but I just wanted to know why he didn’t tell me.

I turned on my heels and began to walk away. Before I left the aisle, I looked up at Tony so he could tell how much this really freaking hurt.

“Piper, don’t go.” Tony said, but I just kept walking. My eyes started to fill with tears, and I didn’t stop them from falling. I kept walking away, and away and away and away. Before I knew it, I was across the store, and crying in the shoe section.

TONY’S POV

“Piper, don’t go.” I said, turning to her. She never turned around; her combat boots just hit the tile floor and made a click sound. I knew how stubborn she was, so I let her walk. I would find her soon.

I faced Samantha again, and she just smirked at me. “Aw, Tony. Looks like your little girlfriend is upset.” Her voice echoed through the aisle.

I felt the anger rise up to my face. “What the hell, Samantha?” I asked, biting my lip so I wouldn’t scream.

“You two were the one that ran into me, I didn’t come and find you. It’s not my fault she can’t handle that you’ve been married.”

“Samantha, it was a stupid mistake to marry someone like you. You broke my heart, and I never thought I could get over that until I met Piper. She finally opened herself up to care about somebody else and you came in a ruined everything. I was going to tell her, but today was not the day.”

“Geez, Tony. Calm down.” Samantha said. That was what set me off.

“Calm down? You’re telling me to calm down? You were the one that cheated on me with seven different guys, that I knew about, but I couldn’t push myself to leave you. You were a horrible wife and you will a horrible wife to anybody, you stole so much money from me, and I’m surprised the guys even kept me in the band when I was you. You were horrible to everyone, not just me. I’m happy now, without you, you whore.”

She blew a strand of hair out of her face. “Happy? Without me? I doubt it.”

“Screw you.” I said.

I grabbed Piper’s purse, which she had left in the basket and walked away, searching for Piper. As I walked away, I heard Samantha say, “You’ll never find love again.”

I was walking quickly through the baby aisle when I heard a sob from a few aisles away. I followed the sob into the shoe section, where I found Piper sitting in front of a shelve of men’s shoes. Her face was on her knees, and her little hands clutched her knees. I took a few steps towards her.

“Piper Lynn?” I said softly.

She didn’t move her head. “Go away.” She said, followed by more tears.

I crouched down in front of her. “Are you okay?”

She looked up at me, her green eyes blood shot. She wasn’t wearing any makeup, so she didn’t have a mess of black around her eyes. “Does it look like I’m okay, Tony?”

God, even when she’s crying, she’s beautiful.

“Well, no. But why?” I asked.

She pushed her black hair out of her face. “Why? Because, anyone I fall for lies to me. You couldn’t have told me you were married?”

I sighed. “Piper Lynn, Samantha meant nothing to me-“

“Then why did you marry her?”

I sighed, yet again. “I dated Samantha all through high school, and her parents were going to send her to the Air Force if she didn’t married. I loved her, but not that much. So, I asked her to marry me and she said yes. At first, it was just so she can stay in San Diego, but then I actually started to fall for her. Then, she started to cheat on me, but I ignored it because I just thought it was rumors. But then it happened again and again. I decided I didn’t need that and left her. That wedding was the first thing I had been close to being involved a girl after Samantha, besides one night stands. I didn’t expect to run into her, she was the last person I wanted to see. I didn’t tell you because I wanted us to grow as a couple first,. Piper, I’m sorry. I should’ve told you.”

She pulled her black tank top up to her face to wipe it. When she pulled it back down, her green eyes shined at me. “I don’t even know why I’m crying.” She whimpered.

I grabbed her small hand. “Because you actually like me. You actually have feelings for somebody Piper.”

She giggled. “Probably.” Then she gave me her sneaky little smile that she only gives when she wants something or if she’s truly happy.

I brought her hand up to my lip and held it there for a second, then kissed it softly. “I promise, there are no more ex-wifes or little Tonys running around.” I said. She laughed.

Piper looked around the aisle. “Where’s the basket?” She asked.

“I left it over in the food-“

“MY WINE.” She jumped up and took off running towards the food section. I laughed as I chased after her.
