Queen For A Day

Parties and Photos

Ok. Deep breaths. I couldn’t have actually lost three bags of shopping. I know I’m stressed, but seriously? They aren’t in the car. I’ve checked three times. They aren’t in the kitchen or living room either. Maybe I left them at the supermarket?
“What’s wrong Babe?” Vic appeared from our room, with an easy stroll. Why was he so cool, calm and collected when I was completely stressing out? Fuck I hate parties.
“I can’t find three of my bags. Most of the food for this afternoon is in them. People will be showing up any minute now and I don’t even have food for them!” I ran my hands through my curly hair.
“Calm down,” He walked up and wrapped his arms around my waist. My baby bump had almost completely disappeared, and I was still getting used to being able to be so close to people when I hug them. My boyfriend kissed my lips tenderly and kept his tight grip on me. My boobs were pushed right up against his chest and he glanced down.
“I like this top you’re wearing.” He grinned, running a hand up under the tight top to the back of my bra.
I rolled my eyes, “Vic, now is not the time.”
“Tonight then,” He kissed me again, finally letting go. “And the food from those three bags are all on our bedroom floor, I was bringing them in when Levi started crying so that’s where I left them. Stop stressing Cali, the party will be good.”
We were having a kind of ‘welcome Levi’ party this afternoon, which Vic and I were hosting by ourselves. It was also a celebration because Vic had done enough convincing to get Fearless to take them back, explaining the situation was Rayne. So Pierce the Veil were signed again.
But tonight Vivian and Victor were babysitting Levi and Vic and I were finally going on the date he’d promised a few weeks before.
“Ok, thanks. Can you just pick up the last few things in the living room,” I walked to our room, grabbing the bags and casting an eye to the cot by the end of the bed. Vic and I had decided to have Levi stay in our bedroom for the first few weeks. It did mean that we were both woken up if he cried, but it was just easier to have him in the same room. The tiny baby was sleeping silently, his little fingers curled into fists. He was so beautiful.
“Your Mum just pulled up,” Vic called out suddenly. Of course she’d be the first to arrive.
I rushed the bags to the kitchen and threw some of the pastries I’d bought into the oven. I’d made two types of cookies and a cake already, now I just had to heat the savoury food.
There was a quiet knock at the door and Vic answered it.
“Vic! How are you?” Mum exclaimed hugging him. She’d grown very fond of him since the baby was born, much to my delight.
I grabbed out a few glasses and put them out with some drinks as Mum walked into the kitchen.
“Hello Dear, how are you doing?” She kissed my cheek and put down two bottles of wine.
There was another knock on the door and Mum disappeared to find out who the next person was. Within twenty minutes our house was full of our friends and family, all of whom were trying to be quiet but failing. They were all aware that Levi was sleeping, but it was hard to stay quiet when the house was so crowded.
“Cali!” Vic found me in the mix of people and grabbed my hand, dragging me to our bedroom. He closed the door behind us and sighed, “We know too many people.”
I gave a little laugh, “Do you think we should bring him out now?” motioning to the cot.
“Yep, everyone’s here, and we can’t let the guest of honour miss out on his party.” Vic reached down and unwrapped the tight blankets, carefully lifting his son out. He stroked Levi’s brown hair and the baby stirred, slowly blinking his eyes open and yawning.
“That was a big yawn for a little guy!” I chuckled, kissing the baby’s head.
“You can carry him,” Vic passed him to me and I held him upright, holding his big head carefully.
“Let’s go,” Vic held the doors open for me and we walked out to the living room where most of the people were.
Vic stood to my side and put a hand on the small of my back, before clearing his throat to get everyone’s attention.
“Thank you all for coming here today, it means so much to see how many good friends we have. And now, our guest of honour has awoken. Everyone, this is Levi William Fuentes.” A few people cheered and Vic gently pushed me towards the couch. I sat in the middle so others could crowd around. Mike sat down directly beside me and put his finger in his nephew’s grasp. Levi stared up at him and curled his fingers around Mike’s tightly.
“Hey little Dude,” He hummed. Fay walked up and sat down in Mike’s lap, wrapping her arms around his neck.
“I didn’t realise you knew so many people Carl.” She commented. I blinked at the two of them.
“What the hell is going on here?” I asked slowly, glancing between the two.
Fay shrugged and bit at a fingernail. I looked to Mike for an answer, “We’re together.”
What. “Since when?”
“A few days, we’ve been talking for ages though,” He informed casually.
“I thought you had a girlfriend,” Wasn’t he with that girl Alysha? He introduced me to her before we left for tour.
“She cheated on me during the tour.” Right. “Anyways, Fay’s better,”
“Absolutely,” Fay leaned in and kissed him hard on the lips.
I covered Levi’s eyes and fake gasped, “Keep it G rated! There’s children around!”
“Oh shut up Carl, his cot is in your bedroom, I’m sure he’s seen you and Vic do it all anyways.” Fay rolled her eyes.
“Um, no, actually..” I coughed awkwardly.
“Whoa! You two haven’t..?” Mike widened his eyes. This is so weird.
“Nope. We’ve only done that once, and that was when this little guy came into being.” I smiled at my son fondly.
“Now I know why you’re having him babysat tonight.” Mike laughed, pushing Fay off his lap, “I gotta go talk to my brother. Oh, and Cali? Use protection this time,” and he walked off with a laugh, Fay in tow.
“Congrats Cali,” Cooper sat down where Mike had just been, “You look like a natural mother.”
“Thanks Coop, sorry if any of this is weird for you.” I shifted Levi so he was sitting up.
“It’s not, I’ve gotten over you,” He laughed and winked at me.
“Was it that easy?” I teased.
“It was when I saw how much you and Vic needed to be together. I was never going to be Levi’s father, but I do feel close to you guys. I hope everything will still be the same.” Cooper gave a half smile and he stroked his short facial hair.
“It will be, you’ll still be a part of Levi’s life; we’re in a band after all. And I know his Uncle Cooper will always look after him.” I smiled up at Cooper. Things were going to be alright between us.
“Cali! Bring Levi here for a photo with Grace,” Poppy called out to me across the room. I stood and followed her mop of red hair out to the front of the house.
“We just wanted to take a bunch of family photos and the photographer just got here,” Poppy explained. Mum was fixing her hair quickly just as Saxon handed Grace to her. She instructed me to put Levi in her other arm and I did, before a photographer took a bunch of photos.
“I love my little grandchildren,” She cooed, cradling the two of them gently. The front door opened and I was suddenly joined by Vic. He stood behind me and hugged me, kissing right under my ear.
“I heard that photos were being taken,” he whispered, “Am I part of the family enough to have a photo with you?”
“Of course,” I murmured back, stepping forward to take Levi from his grandmother’s arm.
We watched on as my Dad and his fiancé took photos with Levi and Grace, then Saxon, Poppy and Grace had their own family portrait.
“Ok, Cali, Vic and Levi now.” Mum instructed, and we stepped in front of the camera. She fluffed about for a second, flattening a part of my hair and fixing Levi’s outfit before she stood back and nodded. Vic was standing to one side and slightly behind me and I was holding Levi in my arms. Vic wrapped one arm around my waist and pulled me close to him.
“We’re a good looking family,” Vic commented in my ear, right before the camera clicked.
“Only because you’re in it,” I stood on my toes and kissed him, hearing the camera go off again.
“No it’s because Levi got your looks.” He retorted.
“I’m not Mexican though! Look at the kid’s complexion, he definitely looks more like you than me,”
We walked away from the camera and I noticed Saxon chuckling at us. I gave him a blank look and he spoke, “Why don’t you two just get married already.”
I blushed a little and sunk into Vic a bit more. Saxon turned back to his wife and I looked at Vic.
“Are we going to get married one day Cali?” he asked with a smile.
“We’ve only been dating for three weeks.” I reminded him, “but yes, eventually.”
Levi whimpered from my arms and we turned our gazes to him.
“C’mere,” Vic reached down and took Levi as he started to cry. He rocked him for a few moments before the baby calmed down again.
“I love you Vic.” I commented absentmindedly.
“I love you too Cali,” he smiled and kissed Levi on the forehead.
And for once, everything was completely alright.
