Queen For A Day

Pranks and Partying

As the tour drew to an end we all got nervous about the future of Pierce the Veil. Their contract had not been fixed; as far as we all knew they weren’t signed. We had an unspoken rule that no one brought it up in conversation. We all just concentrated on finishing off the tour, but I think Pierce’s manager was trying to figure everything out. We tried not to let it bring down our moods though, we still had a great time and let ourselves enjoy the tour. I could see it was taking its toll on Vic, he still thought it was all his fault and he did distance himself from me a little. We silently decided not to get together and w even managed to not kiss.
But the tour and everything was slowly getting harder for me as I got bigger and more tired.
One more show. There was one show left in this tour. And I couldn’t do it.
“Come on Cali, you’ve done it so many times now, it won’t take long!” Cooper whined, poking me in the arm gently.
“I just can’t though.” I sighed, slumping further down in my seat, which wasn’t easy.
“It’s just one more show though?” he was desperate. But I was exhausted. There was no way I’d be able to get through the show.
“Did you know that stressful situations can put me into premature labour?” I offered, looking him straight in the eye.
“Damnit Cali, you can’t pull that on me!” Cooper pulled at his hair in exasperation. “Where the hell is Vic? I’m sure he’ll be able to get you up.”
Actually, I don’t even think I could get up at all. 8 months pregnant. Eight months and one day and I am huge. I’m now starting to worry that I might actually be pregnant with twins. That’d be weird.
I’d managed to get to the green room of the final venue for the tour, but once I’d sat in this really comfy couch I decided I couldn’t do it. It was just all too much.
“I’ll be back,” Cooper cast me a sideways glance then walked out of the room. I pulled my phone out and scrolled through my Facebook absentmindedly. Poppy had her baby not three days earlier and she’d already posted a heap of photos. I had yet to talk to her about the whole giving birth thing, I hadn’t actually spoken to her at all since she’d had the baby. But my niece was the cutest little thing ever, her name was Grace.
The door of the room reopened and I braced myself to be yelled at. I looked up and locked eyes with Vic. He closed the door behind him and locked it, before walking over and sitting beside me.
“Cali.” He wasn’t going to yell, but he was still going to try and lecture me about going on stage.
“I can’t go out there Vic! I’m too pregnant!” I exclaimed before he had a chance to say anything else.
“Babe I know that’s not all of it. You’re also in denial. You don’t want this all to end do you?” I noticed he made a point of not making any physical contact with me.
I nodded my head reluctantly. “I know that after this is all over we have to go home and then I’ll have the baby. Everything’s going to change after this tour.”
“It’ll all be ok Cali, aren’t you excited for what the future holds?”
I glanced at him. Gosh he looks so hot. I just wanted to kiss him. I just hope he’s my future.
“Why haven’t you kissed me?” I mumbled.
He frowned and smiled at the same time, “what do you mean?”
“It’s been forever since you kissed me. It was on that park bench at the first venue.” I scowled and picked at my fingernail.
“Because you needed to sort yourself out. I figured I should give you space and wait until you were ready to start something.” He shrugged and looked at my earnestly.
So it’s my fault?
“I didn’t realise.”
“Why? Did you think I found you repulsive or something?” He laughed.
“Something like that. I kinda missed kissing you.” I admitted, still refusing to look at him.
“Same here.”
“Vic, I think you should ask me out.” I smiled and cast him a quick glance before looking back at my feet. I felt the couch shift as he moved.
“Cali-” he was interrupted by the door opening. Damnit.
Jaime was staring straight at us.
“Can we help you?” Vic asked impatiently.
“Yeah, you need to come back to our green room and Cali needs to be out onstage in like 5 minutes.” Jaime walked into the room and grabbed Vic’s arm, pulling him to the door. “C’mon man, let the girl get ready.”
“Sorry,” Vic murmured as he walked out, closing the door behind him.
Well that was just great.
I heaved myself off the couch and walked to the mirror, quickly fixing up my makeup then walking out towards the stage. It was the last performance, I had to do it.
Cooper was standing with a stage hand talking, but looked up grinning when he spotted me.
“Vic has a way with you.” He winked, coming to hug me.
“I guess he does,” I laughed. “Let’s do this ok?”
“You’ll be fine.” Cooper pulled away and glanced around the room, “Also, the guys in our band and me have decided to prank Pierce, when they’re doing their final song we’re going to throw water balloons at them full of glitter and flour.”
“Wow that sounds really immature. I’m in.” I giggled. Why did I want to miss this again?
“TCMC! Let’s go!” Someone called.
Cooper leaned down and kissed my cheek, “let’s kill this ok?”

Our performance was incredible, the crowd was so amazing and loud. It was a great way to end such an awesome tour.
Cooper helped me off stage and I couldn’t help but laugh at the Pierce guys. They were doing their stupid pre-show chant, their guitars strapped and ready to go. I got a kiss on the cheek from each of them as they passed me to go on stage. Cooper had disappeared with our bassist and drummer, probably to go get the balloons. This is going to be great.
I stood and watched their entire set, still in awe of how Vic and the guys were on stage. They truly were incredible musicians.
Cooper appeared just as Vic started singing King for a Day.
“Here,” He smirked, handing me a semi inflated balloon and a pin. “There’s a whole tub of them here, just go up to the guys and pop this. Chris and Joel have water guns, they’ll wet them and we’ll get this shit all over them.”
“I am not getting in any trouble for this ok?”
“Who the fuck is going to tell us off? But it was my idea ok?” Cooper rolled his eyes and grabbed a balloon from the bucket. “Wait for the signal.”
The two of us stared across to the other side of the stage. I didn’t even know what the signal was. Suddenly our bassist Joel appeared and started shooting water towards Tony. Chris appeared up behind Mike and started doing the same.
“GO!” Cooper screamed, running out and covering Mike in glitter and flour. I followed him, getting ready to burst my balloon. The guys had no idea what was going on, but they kept going and barely missed a beat. Mike was screaming at us and spitting flour out his mouth but still hitting his drums. Chris ran past and sprayed Jaime, Vic and then Tony. I ran up and popped the balloon, covering Jaime, who screamed out and tried not to lose his place.
“CALI HERE!” Cooper screamed, throwing me another balloon. I walked up to Vic, who was playing his part of the solo.
“Don’t do it Cali!” he pleaded. The crowd was screaming, I could feel all eyes on us.
“Sorry Vic.” I held the balloon right above his head and put the pin into it.
The crowd erupted even louder as the lead singer was covered in a cloud of flour and glitter.
“Hell yeah!” Cooper hooted behind me.
Vic stopped playing and turned to me. “You are a terrible person Cali,” he laughed. “But I still want to kiss you.”
The other three guys were still playing in the background but I barely noticed them.
I stepped right up to Vic and pushed my lips against his, wrapping my arms around his neck. He kissed me back, awkwardly trying to put his arms around me. Even with a baby and a guitar in the middle he managed.
“Will you be my girlfriend?” He murmured as we pulled away.
“Absolutely. Now finish your song.” I let him go and stepped away.
“Let’s fucking finish this!” Vic screamed at the crowd through his microphone. They started playing the final chorus of King for a Day and Cooper, Chris, Joel and I stood on the front of the stage, yelling the lyrics along with the crowd. It was an awesome moment, we were all covered in glitter and flour – some more than others, which made it one to remember. As the song finished a few big cannons of confetti went off and covered the crowd. Vic motioned for me to come to him.
“Thank you all for an incredible concert, you are the fucking best. Also, thanks for This City My Cage for this wonderful prank you pulled, we’ll get you back next time!”
Next time?
“And I want you all to meet my gorgeous girlfriend Cali Hill, and our baby.” Everyone in the crowd suddenly got really excited. I didn’t know he was going to announce it right now.
Vic and the guys said goodbye to the crowd and we all came off stage in a big glittery laughing mess.
“I can’t believe you guys did that!” Tony laughed, wiping his face on a towel.
“That was so great!” Cooper handed Jaime a towel.
“Since when were you two dating?” Mike pointed between Vic and I.
I looked at Vic and smirked, “I’d say about three minutes? Since during that song.”
“And you already announced it?” Jaime queried. It was hard to take him serious with glitter all over his face and hair.
“We’ve been through everything, this was a long time coming.” Vic leaned over and kissed me.
“Finally.” Mike laughed. “C’mon guys, I shotgun the first shower.”
“Not if I get there first!” Tony yelled, running towards the back exit of the building. I turned to walk back to my green room and Vic followed.
“Are you ok that I told the fans? Maybe it was a little quick, but I was just excited.” Vic explained with a sad smile.
“It’s fine, I guess they did need to know about the baby. It’d be weird if one day you announced you had a kid but they didn’t know beforehand.” I shrugged, it honestly didn’t bother me.
“Ok, as long as you’re cool with it.” Vic grabbed my bag from the table in the green room and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, leading me back out of the building.
“So are you going to join everyone for the party tonight?” he asked as we walked slowly.
“Only if you take a shower first,” I laughed, “but yeah, I won’t stay up late though.”
Better finish the tour with a great night, after this everything is going to be different. The baby is due in a month, so I only have that long to settle back into home and prepare for being a Mum. It’s all going to happen so quickly.

The party that night was held inside our front lounge, which was not big enough to hold everyone. But we did it anyways. By midnight Tony and my bassist were already passed out and everyone else was absolutely pissed drunk. Except me. And Vic. He’d decided to stay with me all night and only have a few drinks. I chose one of the couches, the furthest away from the stereo and closest to the bunks, to be my designated place for the night. Vic waited on my hand and foot the whole time, making sure I was happy. It was really sweet.
“Mike’s about to pass out.” Vic threw an arm around my shoulder as he sat down. He’d also been making sure everyone else was alright, particularly his brother.
“That’s probably a good thing, he’s going to do something stupid soon if he doesn’t.” I yelled back. The music in here was way too loud and finally starting to hurt my head. “I think I might go back to my room, I’m starting to get a headache.” I admitted. Vic jumped up immediately, looking vaguely concerned.
“Here,” he held out his hand and helped pull me to my feet, before walking me down between the bunks to the end room. He closed the door behind us which dulled the music and sat me down.
“Are you sure it’s just a headache? Will you be ok?” he watched me carefully.
“I’ll be fine, it was just too loud.” I smiled at my boyfriend. “What would I do without you Vic, you’re so sweet.”
He sat down beside me and kissed me gently, “Cali, I’ve been thinking.” He took a deep breath. “I know we only actually got together today, but I have wanted this for a while. And I was going to suggest it even if we didn’t get together. Do you want to move in with me? I want to look after you and the baby, and with it due so soon you need to always have someone with you.”
I thought for a second. There was no reason not to accept, it was actually a good idea…
“Of course Vic, shall I move in as soon as we get back?” I raised my eyebrow. His face changed from concern to joy and he kissed me again.
“Definitely.”
