Queen For A Day

I awoke the next day to a knocking on the door. I untangled myself from the sheets and straightened the dress I was still wearing before out of my room.
“Cali!” My mother’s voice rung out through the door.
Shit, she’s gonna be so mad..
“Cali!? Are you there?”
Nope, I rushed over to my closet, clumsily knocking over a lap as I did so.
The loud smash echoed through my small apartment. Damnit.
“Cali let me in! I’m your mother stop being so rude!” She was screaming now. My neighbors won’t be happy.
“I’m not here!” I called to her.
“Please Love, we need to talk.” She sighed.
“I’m busy come back later!”
“Cali do you have a male in there?”
“What the fu- NO MUM!” Oh God what is she thinking.
“Fine! Come talk to me when you want. Until then don’t even think about coming to my house.” I heard high heels trotting away from the door.
She’s gone. Thank fuck.
What is wrong with me?
I wandered back to my bed and lay down on it again. Something was prodding into my back.
Ugh I just want to sleep!
Rolling over my eyes landed on the corner of some shiny paper sticking out of my sheet.
I reached over and pulled it out then realized it was the AP magazine Fay had given me.
What page did she tell me to go to? 32?
I flipped to page 32.
“Bring Me the Horizon; the story so far,” I mumbled to myself. Surely that’s not what she was pointing me to..
Page 42! That sounds more like it.
I skipped ten pages forward then found a double page spread with a huge title.
PIERCE THE VEIL’S QUEEN FOR A DAY COMPETITION.
Right, this is the one she meant.
I flicked my eyes down the page, quickly reading the basic information.
‘How much do you love Pierce the Veil? Enough to meet them? How about spending a day with them. Alternative Press along with Pierce the Veil are offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend an entire day with Pierce the Veil!’
“Oh my gosh..” So I wasn’t the biggest fan girl or anything, considering I am 23. But they were my musical idols.. Because of them I was inspired to learn guitar and a few other instruments, which I now teach at three separate primary schools.
Etched down the bottom corner in scrappy handwriting was a few words.

I ran to grab my home phone from the living room, seeing as I had lost my phone the night before.
Fay picked up after one ring.
“So… does it sound good to you?” She asked without even saying hi.
“Yeah, I really hope I get to meet them!”
“Well, no matter what you will meet them..” I could hear the smirk in my best friend’s voice.
“FAY WHAT?!” I screamed at her. No way, how could that be possible!?
“I sent them a video already and they accepted and replied that you got in,”
Now I was just confused, “Wait what, what video?
“Um, did you even read the article Carl?”
“Maybe not..” I muttered sheepishly.
“Oh wow, I should’ve guessed. Ok here’s the deal, they wanted people to send in videos of them performing some sort of talent. Now remember that performance you put on at that bar a few weeks ago?”
Realization suddenly struck me. “Fay I was drunk and high! I don’t remember any of that night!”
My friend snickered, “You were playing your electric guitar and you did it perfectly. You played some crazy guitar solo really loudly. Anyways, I recorded it and sent it in and I got an email to say you were selected in the top 20. You’ve now got to do a live performance in front of a bunch of people including Pierce the Veil, who will then choose out of the group who will spend a day with them.”
That was a lot to take in. They actually liked the video of when I was drunk? Hopefully you couldn’t tell..
“Ok, wow, you are the best friend ever, I love you so much Fay!”
“Yeah, yeah I know, love ya too Carl, talk later.” And she hung up.
Why does she always hang up on me?
I didn’t even have any of the details. My best friend is an idiot.
