Queen For A Day

VIC’S POV
We hadn’t played any shows the last few weeks. Our next tour was due to start in four days though, and honestly I was really excited. Tonight my parents were throwing a bit of a party to say goodbye, since it would be several months before we saw our friends and family again. I arrived at my childhood home before anyone else, since I didn’t have anything else to do that day, and after all they were my parents. I didn’t bother knocking on the door before I entered.
“Mamma, Pappa?” I called into the all too familiar house. A short balding man popped out from the living room.
“Vic! How ya doing son?” He opened his arms and hugged me. Even though we live 20 minutes away from each other we still struggle to catch up often, especially with my hectic schedule.
“I’m fine Pappa,” I sighed, “figured I’d come early and help out,”
“That’s great, Mike also called a few minutes ago, he’s about five minutes away. We told him to pick up some gas for the barbeque. Now, where is – VIVIAN?!” He yelled towards the kitchen. My mother walked out of the kitchen mumbling to herself in an irritated tone. She stopped as soon as she saw me. “Vic! So good to see you!” She hugged me and kissed my cheek. I do love my parents.
“Good to see you too Mamma.” Just as she let me go the door opened behind me and we turned to see Mike.
“Oh, hi Vic, didn’t know you’d be here yet,” my little brother commented before exchanging hello’s and hugs with our parents.
“Could you boys go out and get the barbeque started? I would’ve gotten it out of the shed, but my back’s been playing up lately.” Pappa put a hand on his lower back to emphasize his issue.
“Sure, c’mon Mike.” My brother and I walked out to the little shed and pushed open the heavy door.
“You’ll never believe who I saw today,” Mike grinned.
“Adam? You already told me you were going to catch up with him for lunch,”
“Well, yeah, but I accidentally bumped into someone else.”
Why was he telling me this; I honestly couldn’t care less, “who?”
“Cali.”
I dropped my end of the BBQ as a wave of memories suddenly hit me.
“Whoa careful Vic!” Mike yelled as he dropped his end on the edge of his shoe. I never thought I’d even hear of her again.
“Oh, her.” I pretended I didn’t care and picked the BBQ again, proceeding to move forward.
“I wanted to invite her here tonight,”
“Did you!?” Oh shit.
“No, why are you so uptight about her? You always seem to get tense when she’s mentioned.”
Thankfully She hadn’t been mentioned too often, but I knew all the guys liked her. Honestly I did judge her a little hard that day, she was actually a cool chick.
“I don’t like her,” I lied.
“Bullshit! I saw you two dancing that night!” Mike exclaimed loudly. “I’m sure you’d love to see her again, since none of us ended up saying goodbye to her. I wanted to ask her where she ended up going that night but I didn’t really want to pry.”
I gulped, no one knew.

Flashback
We got to the club and I went straight to the bar, I just wanted to drink until I forgot everything. So I drank. I downed so many drinks that I was drunk in the first twenty minutes of getting there. By the time I knew it the club was just a loud, blaring room that kept spinning. I found myself on the dance floor, moving around the beat of the electronic music when I spotted Cali in front of me. She turned so her back was facing me and I couldn’t help but stare in awe at her gorgeous figure. She was moving her body and drawing a lot of attention from a few males around. She was downright sexy. I stumbled over to her and pushed up against her back, digging my fingers into her hips. She bushed her butt into my crotch and I couldn’t help but groan slightly.
“Probably shouldn’t be doing this to strangers Cali,” her name felt like fire on my lips. She whipped around with a slightly alarmed look on her face. I smirked and pulled her small body tight against my own.
“Vic?” She sounded surprised. I didn’t care.
“You’re so pretty Cali,” I ignored her, putting my face to her neck, kissing it a few times as we continued moving. She moaned lightly and I grinned. This trick works for every girl.
“Vic why were you crying?” She asked out of nowhere. I straightened up, not sure if I wanted to answer or not.
“Two years ago, on this day my girlfriend died.” I sighed. Why was I telling her this? I don’t know.
It took a few moments for my words to sink in.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear,” her voice mumbled. “How’d she die?”
I stared straight into the girls eyes, trying to figure out why she wanted to know. She really had no right to ask these questions, and if I was sober I probably wouldn’t have replied. Actually, if I was sober I wouldn’t have been holding her this close anyways.
“Sh-she took h-her own life. Cut straight down her arm. I found her in the bathroom,” I couldn’t look at her. I didn’t want to be thinking about Renee right now.. I was drunk so I wouldn’t think about her.
“And that’s why you got upset over that line in Bulletproof Love?”
“It’s written about her..”
“I’m sorry Vic, is there anything I can do to help?” She looked so concerned. That’s when I noticed we weren’t moving anymore. I was just holding her up against me, stock still. But was there anything she could do? There was only one thing I could think of. I leaned down slowly and let my lips meet hers. She seemed surprised at first but she responded willingly. Our lips moved together slowly at first before I tightened my grip on her lower back and she bit my lip in return. Her hands found their way to my hair and she ran her long fingers through it, pulling lightly. I couldn’t help it, but she was slowly turning me on.
“Let’s get out of here,” her hot breath met my ear and I smirked at her words. This is exactly what I needed.
I had awoken the next morning at 5:00, with a massive headache. I untangled myself from Cali’s naked body and rolled over to find myself in her bedroom. I climbed out of the bed and pulled my clothes on quietly, hoping not to wake the girl I’d spent the night with. When I was dressed I found a blank piece of paper on her writing desk and I scribbled a quick note that I left on the pillow next to her, before I walked out of her apartment and down to the street.

“Wait, did you say goodbye to her?” Mike asked as we placed the BBQ down where it needed to be.
“Uh no, I left with someone,” It wasn’t really a lie.. I never said goodbye to her.
“Ooh, really? Was she good?” He winked at me.
“Yeah, really good.” I mumbled in return. Mike and I have a weird relationship.
“Who was it?”
“I don’t know, some random chick.” I didn’t want him to know I had sex with Cali. I don’t regret it or anything, but he’d probably annoy me about it forever. Or he’d get mad, I think he has some sort of crush on her.
“Fair enough, I don’t even remember going home. I just woke up at my place with Jaime and Tony passed out on my couches.” Mike laughed at the memory, “I think Cali must’ve left with somebody too, it’d be the only real explanation.”
“hmm,” I wonder if she did sleep with people very often. That would explain why she hasn’t called me yet. I left my number there for a reason, I did like her a bit, and she was pretty good.. if you know what I mean..
But part of me also hoped that we’d both just move on and never hear of each other again. I mean, it was a one night stand, it wasn’t meant to mean anything else right?
