How To (Kinda) Survive The Rise Of The Undead

Cannibalism, Jaime's Driving Skills, and Surviving the Undead

*Liza Perry's Point of View*
I sat lounged on my brother's tour bus with my boyfriend Chris trying to cool off from my band's set as I texted my sister. Chris had a bus of his own I could be hanging out on, but I didn't really get along with Ghost. Most days I just hung out on my brother's band's bus because I didn't want to face the heat-stroke-inducing-temperatures of my band's van or SoCal.
"Ready to go see your family?" Chris asked.
"Yeah. I was texting Vic and apparently Ty is as moody as ever, David came home drunk super late last night, and Mom is baking cookies.
"You'll just be gone tomorrow and the next day, right?" Chris asked.
"Well that is the plan," just then my phone went off.
Still asleep. Kinda nervous to go wake the bear.
I laughed before I began to type a reply. I was nearly done typing when Mike ran onto the bus. He had been out talking to fans while everyone else on the bus chilled before the set.
"Cannibalism is apparently still practiced today and it's happening now."
"Where?" Chris straightened next to me, getting defensive of any crazy cannibal that might eat me.
"Outside. Like right now. It was at the medical tent. Some guy bit into this little girls throat. Someone said he had come in with a fever, and... I say we just get out of here now! Everyone else is running in terror. It hasn't reached the buses yet, but we have to go."
Vic, Tony, and Jaime had come to the lounge of the bus and had heard it all.
"Anyone know how to drive this thing?" Vic asked. They had let the driver take the day off to do whatever he wanted in town.
"I do!" Jaime volunteered as he ran to the front. "He taught me during one of the tours when we were bored. I was okay. Ish," Jaime started the bus and slowly started to make his way out of the parking lot. We were nearly all the way out when Vic told him to stop. Jaime braked a little too hard, causing everyone to fly forward. Vic ran for the door.
"Kellin!" he called out.
"What's up man? Why are you moving the bus?"
"Get on. Mike is explaining right now," Kellin made his way up the steps, little Copeland in his arms. He crossed the lounge and sat next to me on the couch.
Mike explained the beginning again.
"... And I don't know exactly what happened. But apparently the girl was as good as dead. When they tried to pull him off, he wheeled around and bit into someone else neck. Eventually the girl came back to life, and she got ahold of someone. I ran out with someone telling me what happened, but they got lost in the crowd."
I looked out the window now, and people were running everywhere in the streets. "Someone turn on a local news station. TV or radio!" I suggested. Chris reached over to get the remote for the TV, and switched to the news channel.
"Reports are coming in from all over the country of an outbreak occurring. The dead are rising," began the female news anchor as she stood in the streets of a city where everything was beyond chaotic. "The dead are attacking the living as they eat their flesh. There aren't any known ways to stop the dead yet- wait. This just in. In order to stop the dead and kill them permanently, you must damage the brain in a way that would kill a living person. This also just in. If one of the diseased were to bite you in a non fatal way, victims are showing fatigue. It is believed that after time, this fever will kill you and you will become one of the living dead. CDC camps are being set up in all cities with large enough populations. If you find yourself coming down with this fever, we urge you to take yourself to the centers in the cities listed below. I scanned the screen. All the cities were too far away.
"Nobody's been bitten?" I confirmed as I looked around, mainly at Mike and Kellin who had been the last off the bus. They all shook their head no. I turned to Tony. "The property is the safest place. I doubt anyone there was bitten. It's relatively secluded. It's thirty minutes away. It's our best bet."
"I say we go," Tony said.
"Any objections?"I asked. Nobody argued. "Tony, go give Jaime directions. Everyone else. Call anyone else you can." I set to work calling my family.
I called Vic first. It rang a few times. "Hey. Sorry I can't-"
"Dammit, Vic!" I yelled. She had the worst habit of turning her phone on silent and leaving it like that.
"What-" began the Vic on the bus.
"Not you," I griped as I dialed my mom's number.
"The person you're-" I hung up. Not even a ring. Mom had probably let her phone die again. David. It rang.
"Yo! It's David. I can't come to-" Heaven knows where the drunkard's phone is right now. Ty. She wasn't likely to answer my calls right now. It rang.
"What?!" Ty snapped angrily.
"Ty! Thank God you answered! Listen-"
"You're boring me," she said before she hung up. I decide quickly before deciding to try Ty again. Straight to voicemail. Tony had probably gotten through and she'd turned her phone off. Great. My best bet was to try Vic's phone for the next while. Jaime had turned on the radio, and it was talking about what to do and such. I tuned it out as I continued to dial Vic's number, occasionally switching to Tyler to see if she turned on her phone.
Twenty minutes later we parked around the back of the house. Chris walked in front of me protectively as we made our way into the house. The second he stepped through the kitchen door, a plate flew at his head, courtesy of Vic.
"Don't kill my boyfriend!" I called to her from behind Chris's tall form. Not that I blamed her. She'd never met him, and he could be intimidating.
"Liza!" exclaimed my twin, "What are you- Tony! I thought you guys weren't due here for another few hours? And what's with all the extra people?" she asked, referring to everyone in the doorway. Vic Fuentes spoke up next, "Turn on the news. Apparently the dead are rising."
