How To (Kinda) Survive The Rise Of The Undead

Hangovers, Plates, and Survivng the Undead

*Vic Perry’s Point of View*
“Mom?” I asked as I made my way into the kitchen.
“Yes, Victoria?” she asked. I rolled my eyes. She knew I hated going by my full name. I decided not to correct her as I continued on.
“What time did you say Tony and Liza were supposed to get here?” I asked as I reached over to grab some cookie dough from the bowl. Mom reached over to smack my hand, but after years of experience, I didn’t drop a single bit of dough.
“The festival they are at-”
‘“Warped Tour,” I interjected.
“-is over at nine, but Tony’s band plays at four thirty today. He promised they’d be here around five-thirty.” My siblings were both in bands on Warped Tour. Tony in Pierce the Veil, and Liza in Adult Education.
“Okay,” I said as I quickly grabbed another piece of cookie dough and booked it to the out the door not wanting to get smacked
“Watch it,” snarled my baby sister, Tyler, as I ran out of the kitchen. I should be honest. Ty isn’t really a baby, but she’s eight years younger than me at age seventeen and the youngest kid overall.
“Sorry,” my speech was a little off with the cookie dough in my mouth and it came out more as a ‘sowwy.’
“I thought I was supposed to be the little sister here,” she scoffed.
“With age comes-”
“-the longing to be younger. Yeah, yeah. I don’t get why you wanna be younger. What I’d give to be out of the house like all of you.”
“Keep telling yourself that,” I said as I ruffled her hair and headed upstairs to wake up David, but not before I sent Liza a quick text.
Beware. Ty is super moody. Possibly ".", but maybe just being a teenager. Maybe the ChocoChip cookies Mom's making will help.

Thanks for the warning. How's David?

Still asleep. Kinda nervous to go wake the bear.

May God be with you. Gotta go. Someone just ran on the bus spouting some crazy shit.

Good luck. I set my phone down on the table in the hallway and made my way to David's room.
My little brother had made it to the second property really late last night, probably drunk. My little brother had turned twenty-one last week, and I don’t think he’s gone a night without getting drunk since. It’ll probably pass soon. “Wake up!” I yelled as I pounced on his bed. David was a heavy sleeper even without the effects of alcohol.
“No,” he moaned as he pulled a pillow over his head.
“Yes!” I yelled as I opened the curtains between the two twin beds in the room. He groaned pulling his blankets over his head. I marched over to the foot of his bed and gave a hard tug at the covers. sending them flying off of David’s body.
“Stop!” David whined as he curled his body into a fetal position to conserve body heat.
“You have four hours till Liza and Tony get here. It’s a great time to get up!” I demanded.
“Four hours should give me three hours and fifty-five minutes to sleep,” he complained.
“Maybe if you had come over here yesterday morning when I offered you wouldn’t be this tired,” I bossed as I sat in the middle of the edge of his bed and began to bounce. “Also would’ve saved you on gas, a possible DUI last night, and maybe this afternoons hangover.”
“I’m twenty-one now. I can legally drink as much as I want.”
“The reason you can do that is because you are expected to be responsible. Do you even know what that word is?” I mocked.
“Yes, Vic. Let me sleep for like five more minutes.”
“No, you big baby,” I slid my fingers under the mattress, bent down to get a good grip, and lifted the mattress, throwing him off the bed.
“What the fuck, Vic?!” David demanded.
“Language!” called Mother from the kitchen.
"How did she hear that? I wasn't even yelling!" David whispered.
"Apparently moms know all," I wiggled my eyebrows at him.
"True true. And now I'm up. With a killer hangover nonetheless. But awake and barely ready to face the day."
"That's the spirit!" I sarcastically cheered him on. "Now come on. I'll make you coffee down stairs."
"Fine," he said as we made our way downstairs.
When we got down there, Mom had finished with her cookies, and was headed up to take a shower.
A few minutes later, someone burst through the kitchen door. He was tall, pale, and had long dark hair. I didn't know him, and before he could get a word out, I grabbed a plate and threw it at his head. He ducked out of the way, a string of obscenities following him.
"Don't kill my boyfriend!" called an all too familiar voice.
"Liza!" I exclaimed to my favorite and only twin sister. "What are you- Tony! I thought you guys weren't due here for another few hours? And what's with all the extra people?" I asked referring to the others in the doorway and Liza's boyfriend. Three of them I recognized as Tony's band mates who I had met maybe once before, but along with them was a man with long hair holding a toddler.
The shortest band mate of Tony's, I remember his name being Vic like my own, spoke up first, "Turn on the news. Apparently the dead are rising."
