To Die Is To Awaken

My back arched and I turned in my sleep. I gripped onto the covers and curled up into a tight ball. I was falling so far. Above me I could see people looking down at me. But the only thing I was really looking at was Vic. The horror on his face. My hair was blowing with the wind caused by the fall. Then I came crashing, hard to the ground.

My eyes opened and I gasped. I sat up in bed and ruffled my hair. I saw Vic sitting across the room and flicking through some books. He looked over at me and smiled. I forced myself to smile back sat on the edge of the bed.
"Sleep okay?" Vic asked.
"Kind of," I replied. "I had a dream."
"What of?"
"I was falling from a building. I could see you looking down at me."
"Who else was there?"
"Tony, Jaime and Jess I think." I frowned.
"That happened though," Vic said. "Right before you lost your memory Carrie pushed you out and you fell." he explained.
"So I am remembering a little." I said.
"You're doing good." he told me.
"I want to remember everything though." I said as I got up and walked over to him.
"I know you do." Vic breathed. He wrapped his arm around my waist and rested his head against my torso. I smiled gently and ran my fingers through his hair as he kissed me through my shirt.
Vic's phone started to ring. He let go of me and picked it up. I watched him answer and he started to talk. His eyes widened and he gripped hard at his hair. Vic stood up and started to pace. He eventually hung up and threw his phone down.
"What is wrong?" I asked.
"That was Jaime. We need to get to Jess's."
"Why?" I asked, putting on my shoes.
"The attack has started."
"On Carrie?" I asked.
"Not just her," Vic sighed. "Everyone you gathered before. They're all at Jess's. Everyone's attack has started."
"Lord help us." I muttered under my breath.
"Come on." Vic urged.
Vic took my hand and I followed him through his house. We were forced to come to a stop in the hallway. Vic's parents were both in the kitchen, looking to us. Vic took me into the kitchen and I wrung my shirt with my free hand.
"We're going to Jess's." Vic explained.
"Okay, be home for dinner." his mother said. Vic nodded and she came to kiss his cheek. "You're welcome too, Hannah." she told me.
"Thank you." I smiled.
"Tell Karen and Nick we said hello." Vic's father said.
Vic nodded and we walked out of the kitchen. Vic picked up his car keys and we went outside. I walked to the car and got inside the passengers side. Vic started to drive and I noticed he was speeding. I did not say anything though, I think if I could drive I would be speeding too.
We parked up outside Jess's and I hurried to get out of the car. I went ahead of Vic to the door and found it open. Vic walked close behind me as we went inside. I peered around and saw people everywhere. Or they seemed to be. Karen was handing out cups of tea.
"Thank God," Jess gasped and came over to us. "It's chaos. I've never seen anything like it." she admitted.
"How did it start?" I asked.
"Ask Jaime." she replied.
I saw Jaime standing with Mike on the opposite side of the room. We all walked over and Jaime pulled me into a hug. I smiled against his shoulder until we both pulled away.
"I was with Mike here while Jess ran some errands," he explained. "All of a sudden Carrie starts having a seizure."
"Then I get a call from Lily's friend telling me what's happening. Within an hour she's met her person and the attack has started." Mike added.
"Then everyone starts calling us. They're all coming here because they're so scared. It's all happening at once." Jaime said.
"Han', you realise what this means." Jess said.
"If we don't do something..." Vic started.
"They all die," I finished for him. "Is everyone in this room?" I asked, looking at the many people packed into the tiny room.
"Yeah, we thought it would be good if they were all together. We could spot anyone who went to wonder." Jaime explained.
"Okay," I nodded. I walked into the center on the room and started banging on the wall loudly. Everyone turned to look at me, quiet landing on the room. "Listen!" I called. "I know everyone is very scared and panicked. But you need to stay calm and stay here. If you do as we say you will get through the attack. No one leaves this room yet. I am preparing somewhere safe for you all. Before night you will all have a safe place. I promise!" I told everyone.
They all seemed to settle and calm slightly. I went over to the others and bit down onto my lip.
"What safe place?" Mike asked.
"All this time I have been so consumed in remembering. I wanted to just be Hannah Preciado. But I think I should utilise what I can remember." I said.
"What do we do?" Vic asked.
"Jaime and Jess you stay here. Make sure everyone keeps to this room and doesn't leave. If they do follow them and send them right back. Help keep everyone calm." I ordered.
"Call Rich too. I've been in contact, just tell him we need him." Vic said.
"Vic and Mike, you come with me." I said.
Everyone nodded and we broke apart. Vic and Mike both followed me. We went outside and to Vic's car. I got in the front seat with Vic while Mike sat in the back. Vic looked at me and raised his eyebrows. "Where to?" he asked.
"We need an abandoned church. Somewhere that is not in use." I said.
"There's a place on the edge of St. David's street." Mike said.
"Let's go." Vic said and pulled out onto the road.
We drove fast until we came to where we were headed. I looked up at it as we got out. It was not a huge church. There was a small graveyard attached to it. Then a path led the way to the church doors. It was old though, so old. I walked quickly towards it. I could hear the screams in my head. But I had to get to the church. If not all of The Haunted could end up here. I tried to block out the voices and it seemed to become easier.
Mike went to break through into the church but I stopped him. I looked up at it and rested my finger tips gently on the door. "Forgive us Father for what we are about to do." I breathed. Then I nodded. Mike bushed through the doors and I went inside.
"Is it okay?" Vic asked.
"It is perfect," I said. There was a large space inside with the pews, alter, podium, back rooms and stained glass windows all in perfect condition. The only thing that said abandonment was the dust, leaves and mud inside. "If you can start the heat up and see if there is running water, Vic. Mike can you sweep up. I will call Jess to get some blankets and pillows and things to make us more comfortable." I said.
"What will happen though?" Vic asked seriously.
"They will be safe. No ghosts, spirits, demons or subhuman beings can enter a holy place. Everyone will be at their safest. We will guard the doors. Nothing will come in. The attacks have already started but once the period passes they can leave. Once they have seen their lives without their person they will try to get out. When they fail they will fight. After the fight it is over. A young man in the clergy taught me that. All we must do is ensure that they get through it and are blessed before they leave." I explained.
"Wait... Can Lily enter? She's a witch." Mike asked urgently.
"She will be fine. She is human," I said. "Now quickly." I added and Mike hurried away. Vic looked at me in the eye for a moment before he kissed me desperately. He pulled away and ran through into the back rooms as I took my phone out.
