To Die Is To Awaken

One

I pulled the blanket tighter around me. I curled up tightly before I stretched out again. I rubbed my eyes and finally opened them. I sat up in a panic. Where was I? I've never seen this place before. I was lying in a bed with spotted blankets in a room with light walls and a dark carpet. There were papers and photos pinned to the wall.
I got anxiously out of bed. Again I wasn't dressed. Where are my clothes? I was not wearing a nightdress like usual. Someone had dressed me in long trousers and a long sleeved button shirt that must be made for a man. I went to the wall and pulled the photo from the wall. I was in the frame next to the long haired tan man from before. His eyes were bright and happy. So were mine. I was kissing his cheek affectionately. Why was I kissing this man? He wasn't Robin.
Something else caught my eye. I went to the window and looked out. It was so gloomy and glum outside. There were people walking past. Girls in tiny clothes barely covering them. I couldn't get my head around everything. Where am I?
I backed away until the back of my legs hit the bed. I sat down and put my head between my legs. I started to cry softly until I could not take anymore. I screamed loud and cried harder. My body was shaking. I felt someone hold me and tried to push them away. But I felt okay in their arms. I was okay. I looked up and saw the man from the photo.
"Shhh... Han. It'll be okay." he soothed.
"I don't understand." I sobbed.
"I know. You're going to get better though."
"Better," I snapped. "And what I ask is wrong with me?" I spat. I stood up and pushed him away.
"Please... Don't talk to me like that." the man sighed.
"I just want to go home. I need to get back to my baby." I said desperately.
"You can't." he said.
"Why?" I choked.
"There is no baby." he told me shortly.
"You're lying." I said through tears.
"I'm sorry, Han." he said. He was looking guilty now.
"I still have to go back!" I yelled. "Robin will come back!"
"He isn't coming back! He's gone!" he snapped.
"Why are you saying these things to me?" I sobbed.
"Jess!" the man called.
I heard someone outside the door and it opened. The dark haired woman from before walked in. Now I see her she looks more my age. She came to stand next to me and rubbed my shoulder soothingly.
"Anything?" she asked the man. He shook his head sadly.
"I need a break downstairs. I can't handle it anymore." he huffed and hurried out of the room.
"Why does he look so sad?" I asked her.
"It's a long story," she said. "Come and sit. I'll get you some clothes." she said.
"Thank you," I told her and did as told. "What is your name?" I asked.
"I'm Jessica. But you can call me Jess."
"Who was that man?" I asked.
"That's Vic. Vic is very... well he's going through a hard time."
"Can I help in any way?" I asked.
"Not yet," Evie smiled. "Now put these clothes on and I think we should have a little talk before I take you downstairs." she said and handed me some clothes. I looked down at them and saw the bottoms were long. But the top was only small with thin straps. Jess turned around and I got changed. She faced me again and took a seat on my bed.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"You're in San Diego. It's a city in America." she explained. "I'm going to tell you some things and you need to listen. You can't interrupt me. Wait until I've finished."
"Alright." I agreed.
"I know that you know about the strange things that happen. You're one of The Haunted. I know that and before you say anything I don't mind what you can do. My brother was just like you. What I don't know is if you know that magic is real. Witches are real. They can use symbols against you. Those signs can make you forget.
"A young woman called Hannah Preciado had this symbol carved into her stomach. It made her forget her life. But she had another life before. The symbol made her remember that life. That person was you, Hannah." Evie explained.
"Me?" I muttered.
"Yeah, that's why you don't understand. That's why things are different. Look at your stomach." she urged. I did and gasped. The symbol was there.
"But my baby and my person." I tried.
"Hannah Charlotte's body died in 1891. Your baby died of old age. So did Robin. Your family are in England but the youngest that lives is your great great great granddaughter. Her name is Carrie and she lives at my house."
"Everyone is gone?" I asked and swallowed hard.
"I'm sorry," Jess said and took my hand.
"How is this true?!" I exclaimed.
"I know this is difficult, Jess. But you have to believe me. I can prove it all to you, just not yet. If you can't trust me the trust in Vic. You must have felt something when he was here. You have to feel differently now he's gone." Jess said. I looked down and bit my lip. I nodded eventually. "Now would you like to know about Hannah Preciado?" she asked and I nodded again. "She moved to San Diego after an incident with a ghost. A ghost was following her. She moved her with her parents and step brother, Jaime. At school she met a boy called Vic. She fell in love with him. He was her person. They went through a lot together. Just before you lost your memory you made him promise that he would never leave your side." she said.
"I pushed him away." I gasped.
"Vic was so sad because you used to cling to him. Now you don't."
"How can I fix it?" I whispered.
"You can't, not yet," she sighed. "Vic is craving your touch. If you just put some trust in him and trust what I'm saying is true. There has to be some small part of you that feels electric when he touches you."
"I- But Robin..."
"If Robin was here right now it wouldn't matter. You still wouldn't feel anything. Right now Vic is your person. He's risked his life for Hannah Preciado so many times."
"Why do I ache for people that apparently passed so many years ago?" I asked sadly.
"I don't know."
"Is there something I can do? For Vic or to make myself better?"
"I don't know," Jess said again. "But there is something you could do."
"What?" I asked.
"Go downstairs." she urged. I nodded and stood up. I could do this.

I love it! So happy for the updates! I was really upset (in a good way I suppose) when not-so-dead Hannah surfaced, but I think I like her but I still love the older one. Conflicting feelings!
