Rage, Rage Against the Dying of the Light

I Will Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Sunday, December Sixteenth, 1:03 A.M….

A few hours later, the boys had managed to call someone to come and open the door for them. The Triple A guy didn’t look happy to have a truck call at one on a Sunday morning. I wasn’t quite awake yet, just barely rousing to my dull senses. The lights flicked on and I pretended to be asleep.

Someone dragged me out of my bunk. I couldn’t help but grin.

What did my mom tell me as she used to say that poem to me? Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Rage against those holding you captive, do not let them take you, do not let them hold you against your will, rage against their chains, and do not go gentle into that good night.

And so I did as her words said.

My plan is based off of her words.

“RORY!” They all screamed and yelled. I grinned as a blow landed against my chest. I just couldn’t stop smiling!

Do not go gentle into that good night…” I murmured as my eyes fluttered close. They continued yelling over my soft voice.

“How could you!?”

“You’re in for the punishment of your life.”

“Just because you discarded our old tools doesn’t mean we can get new ones.” They continued their rants, their beatings, but each blow seemed to be nonexistent. Oh yes, I’ll feel the after effects tomorrow, but for now, I am here. I am here with my poem.

And I have raged against their dying of the light.

Old age should burn and rave at close of day….”

They continued their loud beatings, their taunting words, but I would have none of it. Kellin’s hand grabbed my throat, choking my breath and halting my thoughts.

Rage, rage, against the dying of the light…” I saw their mouths moving, but nothing reached my ears, just me and my smiles and my poems and the tears out of my eyes.

Though wise men at the end know dark is right…” I hissed out. Kellin dropped me, letting me gasp for air. Night is right, night is right, night is right.

“I know! Let’s call the Motionless crew.” Justin suggested. I closed my eyes, a feeble smile still lingering, although my mind was racing. Everyone abandoned me, starting to pull up the numbers on their phones.

“They can help us keep control of her. It seemed like they had a good hand on her.” Jesse suggested. Gabe just shook his head as he looked down at me.

Because their words had forked no lightning….” I sighed, closing my eyes. The end was near and I was staring at the edge of the world, waiting for it to come to me.

“Yes, they’ll keep her under control.” Jack murmured, throwing me a dirty glare. My form crumpled down on the couch, breathing heavily from the bruises that lined my stomach

“I got Balz on the phone. He said the earliest they could be over is on Thursday. Can we hold out until then?” Gabe put his hand over the speaker and yelled to the others. Kellin checked the schedule nodding.

“Works fine. We’ll keep her down until Thursday.” Jack affirmed. The others set down their phones, finishing up the conversation. I kept murmuring the last line over and over again…

Because their words had forked no lightning, because their words had forked no lightning, because their words had forked no lightning….

Because these boys couldn’t tame me in the flick of a wrist, because their words hadn’t forked me, the unpredictable lightning, they were angry. They will not keep calm, they will not.

“Ricky wants to talk to Orion. Maybe that’ll calm her down?” Jesse asked. It was silent, except for me breathing those words out. Kellin nodded, holding the phone to me. I took it, pressing it against my ear.

“Rory! What are you doing!?” He asked incredulously, as if he couldn’t believe what he had heard. I sighed as I stopped mouthing those same words over and over.

I will not go gentle into that good night.” I hissed to him before hanging up, throwing the phone back at its owner, and promptly passing out.

Notes

Hello everyone! I hope you're still liking the story so far. What do you think about the new Orion? She went from timid at the beginning of the story to fierce and aggressive now! She's certainly not going down without a fight! Do you still like the poem aspect of the story! Don't forget to leave a comment telling me about it below!

Aw, I know dear! It was so much fun to write this story, but eventually, it had to end! Feel free to reread it if you wish...I know I will be rereading it! I'll have a new story up soon, but I'm going to focus on finishing up some of my other works in progress as well.
(Hint hint: Look for a story called The Miraculous Second Life of Blue Eyes...I think you'll enjoy it and I'll get the first chapter posted soon enough! :))

They're so cute! *Sigh* I just wish this wasn't over but I guess all good things must come to an end...I just wish it didn't have to be that way, I love this too much to let it go and tbh I doubt I will forget this anytime soon. <3
