Rage, Rage Against the Dying of the Light

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

12:03 A.M. Monday, September 3rd…

Restless, impatient, and so very excited. What was happening that made me so I couldn’t sleep? Well for one, a Bring Me the Horizon concert was coming up-and soon! They were supposed to be coming through our city in the next month or so. I could just imagine the huge bus rolling towards the venue under the inspection of thousands of cheering fans.

And I would be one of them.

The next thing that was getting me pretty excited was that my birthday was in a few days; Five, to be exact. I was turning eighteen and it was a big time for me. I had already graduated high school and college would be coming up soon. I had decided to take a year off because I was going to some precollege courses. It was over the winter and over part of spring. I couldn’t wait.

As I tossed and turned my sea of sheets, I tangled them around me more, like a constricting snake. My headphones wrapped around my neck, choking me until I pulled them out in the middle of Distorted Thought of Addiction by Suicide Silence. I heard the song still blasting through even though they weren’t plugged in my ears.

As I glanced out the window, I saw a clear view of the cosmos. It was a beautiful night, with no moon out to veil the sights of constellation and hundreds of stars. The Milky Way was under my inspection.

And being the aspiring astronomer I wanted to become, I snuck out of the house.

It took careful steps and ninja like qualities to sneak out of my house through the partially open garage door that always squeaked. We should’ve fixed that years ago, but it never happened.

I crawled under the garage door crack and out into my front driveway. The houses around us were dimmed. I had my headphones plugged into my ipod and a baggy sweatshirt on with my shorts. This was my normal sleep outfit.

The cold autumn breeze made me shiver as I sat on the cold cement, staring up at the stars. My back started to hurt after fifteen minutes, so I lay down on the ground. I counted the number of constellations I could spot from memory. There was Orion, Taurus, Draco….

And a shooting star.

I squealed in delight. It was a large star that had fallen. With a smile, I closed my eyes and whispered my wish. There was no one around to spoil it!

“I wish I could meet my heroes.” I whispered to the dead night. Shadow Moses by Bring Me the Horizon started up. I imagined getting to meet them, seeing Chris Motionless, getting to hug Austin Carlile…everything.

And that’s when I saw headlights.

I was interrupted in the middle of listing off my heroes by two bright spot lights silently swinging down our small street. I blushed a little, thinking that whoever saw me was probably thinking I was a crack addict going out at midnight to smoke a joint.

Nah, I was just a band fan going to think about her favorite musicians.

So as I tried not to see who it was, I looked up to the eastern sky, across the tree line. Maybe I could see Draco more clearly. Suddenly, the entire night horizon was blocked out by the large vehicle.

I sat up, hands in my black sweatshirt pockets. I glared at the large bus in annoyance. The metal outline was just barely visible in the dark. Curtains were pulled over the windows that let little slits of light spill out onto the pavement.

Shadow Moses was still playing when I squinted to read the font on the side of the big bus.

No, it wasn’t just any bus….it was a tour bus….

Bring Me the Horizon stood out on the side of the vehicle. I don’t think I was breathing or thinking anymore. I was just staring, wide eyed, at this behemoth vehicle.

A door opened on the opposite side and voices were heard arguing from the inside of the bus. They certainly sounded British. A figure appeared with a beanie on his brown hair and tats covered by a long sleeved jacket. I just sat on my cement driveway, staring up at that one wish come true.

“’Ello love. We’ve been traveling for a few days and need took a wrong turn. Do you mind us stayin’ right by your drive?” He asked, thick accent coming out. With a feeling like cotton in my mouth, I just nodded. Shaking my head a little and sweeping the blonde bangs out of my eyes, I regained my posture.

“’Course you can.” I just stared out. Another man hopped out.

“Oli! What’s the word, mate?” A head popped out around the corner. Oli, looming over me as always, smiled to him. I could see the bright grin in the dark night.

“The lady says we can, Fish!” He called to her. Oli came and sat down next to me. I just kind of sat there in awe of him.

“So what’re you doing out here all alone, love?” He asked. Every time he said ‘love’, I think I died a little inside.

“Oh, just stargazing, Oli. Listening to music, contemplating life.” I teased. He leaned back on his arms to look at the stars.

“What a beautiful sky, old Colorado has. One of the best places to stargaze in the world.” He nudge me playfully.

Oh look, there goes my dignity…

I just basically melted into a piece of putty in his hands.

“If you think this is great, go to Arizona! Or find some desert area like Utah! That would be the best place for a crystal clear night. It’s away from all the city lights, all the traffic…” I sighed longingly. Oli just looked down to me. I could make out the outlines of some of his tattoos.

“Sounds like you’ve been.”

“Oh, I wish! What I wouldn’t do for a chance to see Virgo in full view.” I sighed and then blushed deeply. Thank goodness for the night hiding the heat flooding in my cheeks. I had just nerded out again.

Oliver chuckled, saying, “Aren’t you a star-whiz, darling.”

“Oh, I do my research.” I chuckled. A cold gust blew through the street. I huddled further in my sweatshirt, shivering a little. Oli wrapped an arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him.

“Cold, love?”

“Eh, it’s the downside of being an astronomer-you’re up late and you’re often cold.” I chuckled. He rubbed my arm affectionately. I nearly melted into a puddle right there. I mean, I knew that Oli was nice from interviews and stuff, but I couldn’t imagine this!
“Well, that’s the benefits of being a band-you’re up late partying and it’s better to we’re all pretty chill.” He chuckled. I laughed and rolled my eyes.

“I think our definitions of cold are different.”

“Same difference.” He bumped me. I yawned a little. Looking towards the house, I glanced at the dark lights.

“I might have to go back inside now.” I sighed. I had been out here an hour already. The stars were beautiful and all, but I did need some sleep!

“Aw, leaving so soon?” He asked. I shrugged. As much fun as it was to be here with him, they would be here in the morning. Who knows? Maybe they’d come to my front door to be greeted by my father in his robe or my sister and her crazing morning hair.

“Regrettably, yes. I have to sleep sometime.” I chuckled. He stood up, pulling me with him. I was just standing in curiosity, hands buried deep into my pockets as he pulled me towards the bus.

“How about you go inside our bus, get warm, and then we can stargaze a little more. It’s fun getting to hear you talk about the constellations.” He smiled, standing so close to me we were basically sharing the same air. I numbly nodded, throwing one backwards glance to my house.

“Okay, maybe for a little. If my parents wake up and see me gone, they’ll have a panic attack.” I slowly stepped forward.

“As all parents should, love. Don’t worry, we’ll take good care of you.” He pulled me closer as we walked around to the other side of the bus. I sighed in relief as he opened the door. I mean, it’s not like they’re rapists or anything…

“Who is this beauty?” Matty purred as I stepped inside the light bus. I squinted against the harsh light. I recognized Matt Nicholls instantly. He was lounging out on the couch next to Jordan Fish, Matt Kean, and Lee Malia. The entire band was sleepily yawning and stretching out in every available inch of room.

“I’m Orion, like after the constellation, but you can call me Rory.” I introduced myself. Matty smiled, eyes gleaming.

“What a beautiful name for a beautiful girl.” He purred, looking up from his phone. I blushed harder and turned away. Oli guided me to a couch, letting me sit down.

“Well Rory, you can stay with us as long as you wish.” Lee smiled. I grinned.

“Thanks, Lee.” I returned warmly. Oli handed me some water and hot chocolate. The drinks started to make me drowsy, especially the warm one. Oli wrapped an arm around me as I set down my mug. I felt my eyes close and I forced them open again.

“Sleepy, darling?” He asked. Oli pulled me into his chest. I succumbed and rest my head on his shoulder.

“Maybe a little.” I yawned. Oli chuckled.

“Good. If you fall asleep, we’ll just wake you up in the morning.” Oli told me. I tried to stand up, knowing if I was going to pass out, I should get to bed.

“I really should go.” I told him. He just pulled me down onto the couch again-forcefully. I looked at him with fear flooding my system.

“Mm….I don’t think so.” He growled.

As my brain started to shut down, I saw the rest of the band adorn malicious grins as the blackness closed in on me.

Notes

Hello everyone! So i'm starting another story! This is going to be a pretty epic one, if I do say so myself... :)

Anyways, if you've read Shattered, it's going to be a little similar to this, but only slightly. I enjoyed writing Shattered and so I thought I might try my hand against at stuff like that.

Thanks you for reading!

Aw, I know dear! It was so much fun to write this story, but eventually, it had to end! Feel free to reread it if you wish...I know I will be rereading it! I'll have a new story up soon, but I'm going to focus on finishing up some of my other works in progress as well.
(Hint hint: Look for a story called The Miraculous Second Life of Blue Eyes...I think you'll enjoy it and I'll get the first chapter posted soon enough! :))

They're so cute! *Sigh* I just wish this wasn't over but I guess all good things must come to an end...I just wish it didn't have to be that way, I love this too much to let it go and tbh I doubt I will forget this anytime soon. <3
