“I have everything:
Adoring fans, a loving family, a beautiful girlfriend… I have the world at my fingertips. Girls throw themselves at me just to catch a glimpse of their savior, their “hero”. I’m no hero. I write lyrics for myself. I’m a selfish songwriter in that sense… but when I write a song, it’s like all the stress and anxiety I’m dealing with disappears. It floats away as chords and notes ring through the air. It carries out across stadiums and arenas and is echoed back to me by strangers. It’s comforting. But I’m no hero.
My songs are written for me. They help me deal with past experiences. They help me wrap my head around whatever the fuck this thing called reality is. And so my albums tell a story. From the time I was twenty-two, to now, my music tells a story. My story.
And as fans, I feel you guys should know this. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for the lies and for the confusion… but this is the real me. And as I’m writing this new record, I can’t help but reflect back on my life – on my music – and think about how far I’ve come…
But also think about how in more ways,
nothing has changed.”
