Hidden in Plain Sight

Chapter 17.

*Jaime's POV*

This is it. This is the day. The day we lay my beautiful girlfriend to rest. Sending her into eternal peace and away from harm. The last 10 days have been so painful, spending so much time with mine and Jess' families organising her funeral. But here it is, the day we say goodbye.

My family and Jess' family are at the cemetery a little earlier than asked. We decided we would go see her beautiful grave site. The six foot deep hole and glossy stone headstone decorate it. It will look so beautiful when it is covered in flowers from the people saying goodbye. Our emotional pain beams off all of us. Especially her family. They have to say goodbye to their daughter, their sister. I could only imagine their pain.

We make our way to the church where the service will be held. Dressed in black, friends and family slowly arrive. Tissues and handkerchiefs held in their hands and soft sad smiles grace their faces. I stand with Jess family at the door as we greet everyone who came to mourn her death. Their kind words make me feel a little better as they tell me that she was a gorgeous woman who's life was cut all too short.

The band and everyone else come to the funeral too. The boys are dressed in a black on black dress shirt and black jeans while the girls all wore beautiful black dresses and dark makeup. They greet me before walking in and taking their seat. The service is to begin soon.

"... And so we lay Jessica Rose Hatterson to rest. A beautiful woman whose life was taken from us all too soon. Daughter, sister, lover, friend. Jessica will forever remain in our hearts and souls. I would like to invite her parents, Mark and Lucinda to say a few words" the priest spoke.

I've already shed a few light tears, but I am saving them for when we lay her rest. Jess' parents stand at the front, attempting to speak but the pain for them is unbearable. Mark holds his wife in his shoulder as she cries hysterically and he says a few words. They were beautiful. I was asked to say a few words afterwards.

"Jessica Rose. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen," I begin, already feeling my throat close up. "the cute little barista in my favourite coffee shop soon became everything to me" I paused. I can't break yet. I look to the guys in the front, their eyes telling me that I'll be alright.

"She was a big part of my life. She meant everything to me. She was the one I called mine and everyday she made me ask myself the same question, how did I ever get so lucky to find a girl as amazing as her. She stuck by my side, even when I was away from home on months on end touring with my band. She was the most amazing person I've ever had the pleasure to meet, and today, we lay this beautiful woman to rest, where she may lay in eternal peace, out of harms way. The Hatterson family, ladies, gentleman, friends and family, today we say goodbye to Jessica Rose Hatterson. May her spirit be with us in out hearts and minds everyday" I conclude my speech.

A few tears had fallen during my small speech but I didn't care. I sit bedside my father, his hand wrapping around my shoulder in a tight grip. He whispered to me that I was so brave. He hasn't told me that since I was a small boy. I felt a little something inside, and I liked it. My mother sat on my fathers side and Jess' dad sat next to me with her family. Tears filled the whole room.

"Ladies and gentlemen, friends and family, I now ask the pall bearers to come take hand of Jessica's casket, as we carry to the hearse to finally lay her to rest" the priest speaks. Jessica's two brothers, her father, myself and my father stand up and walk to her casket taking our places as we lift her up. As a song plays in the background, we slowly walk her down the aisle to hearse.

Single file the crowd drives down the streets to the cemetery. Passers by pull over and bow their heads and put their hats to their heart in respect to us. It was a beautiful sight. I sit in the car with Jess' family. Her mother crying and her brothers and father silent. We finally reach the cemetery.

My Immortal by Evanescence plays as Jessica's casket is lowered into the ground. It was her favourite song. I have broken. Tears flow out of my eyes and crash like a waterfall. My mother and father hold me as they cry too. Not a dry eye is here. Silent sobs and wracked breaths consume the silence as we all quietly say goodbye. Every second my heart keeps shattering into more and more pieces. The beautiful girl I once called mine is now laid to rest in the ground.

Everyone walks to her grave, placing flowers around it and quietly saying their goodbyes. It is now my turn. A bouquet of bright red roses held in my hands. Red roses were her favourite flower. I had one fake rose amongst the bouquet. "Jessica Rose, I will love you until the last rose dies".

Split it!!

If separating it into 2 parts makes the story have a better ending than I'm all for it. I don't mind waiting a little longer
