Hidden in Plain Sight

*Carly's POV*

As I was driving home I couldn't help but feel sorry for Jaime. I really didn't mean for anything to happen and I'm sure I didn't do anything and his girlfriend is just over reacting but I feel I should settle things. Jaime seeming depressed because of arguments with his girlfriend doesn't suit him. After working with him for over a month, I've known Jaime to be the joyful one, the one who's hyper really.

I park my car in my driveway and get my stuff out of the back seat. I haul it up my staircase and stumble inside when it comes loose from my arms, but I saved it. I walk down my hall to my spare room which I have converted into a mini studio and dump it in there. I'll probably clean it up later.

I walk to my back door where Charlie eagerly waits for me to let him in. The German Shepard wags his tail back and forth so fast in excitement I couldn't bare to leave him out any longer. He runs in, jumping up into my chest. I bend down to his level and he tries to lick my face but I stop him. As per usual, he rolls over and I give him a big belly scratch. I love Charlie. He is the cutest dog I've ever had.

I give him some food and go to the lounge room to relax. Housework can wait. With my glass of coke, I put on an episode of CSI. I love watching crime shows. Yeah I know, a cool sweet harmless girl like me likes to watch crime shows. It seems highly unlikely but I love them. I have more than just CSI. I have NCIS, Law and Order, SVU, and any other shows you can think of. But that's not all I have. I also love watching comedic shows and movies. And I absolutely love comedians. I love to laugh.

But after an hour of watching TV, I realise that I was meant to go to Jaime's place and talk to Jess. I look at the clock. Is it too late? Since I couldn't come to a conclusion, I messaged Jaime to ask.

To Jaime; Hey it's Carly. What's your address? I'd like to come apologize to Jess :)

I got a message almost instantly.

From Jaime; 116 Winters street. I'm not home at the moment, I'm out shopping but it should be for the best. I'm sorry you have to do this.

To Jaime; don't worry, I don't mind it, I'd just hate to see you so upset because of a misunderstanding. I'll talk to you later :)

From Jaime; well good luck finding the place. Oh and good luck talking to Jess ;)
To Jaime; oh don't be smart you!

I didn't get a reply, and so i set off to Jaime's place. I leave Charlie inside, I shouldn't be gone long. I know where Jaime's street is, wow that's a surprise. It's only 3 minutes away, not too far. When I arrive only one car is in the driveway, and it's not Jaime's. I park outside and take a deep breath. Oh god I hope she doesn't get mad at me.

I walk up to the door, and knock. Jess soon answers.

"Um hi Jess, I'm not sure if you remember me, I'm Carly Fox, I work with Jaime" I smile politely,

"Oh yeah I remember you wet met at Tony's one night" she smiles, but I can't help but wondering if the smile is fake or not. So I just nod.

"Do you want to come in?" She invites me in and offers me a seat. "Would you like anything to drink at all?"

"No thank you, but thank you" I smile. Jess takes a seat.

"Jaime's not here at the moment but you're welcome to stay here and wait for him if you need him" she speaks up

"Oh um no, I didn't come to see Jaime actually. I came to uh... Talk to you actually" Jess gives me a confused look.

"This is so awkward to say" i mumble "but uh... I know that it is definitely not my business what goes on between you two but Jaime had told me the other day that you are convinced that he's got something going on with me behind your back, and all I want to say is that I can definitely assure you that we don't have a thing and I am so sorry for all the misunderstandings. Jaime and I are just friends and work partners and nothing else. I am so sorry you thought that way." I press out as best I can.

Jess sits back in her chair a little, taken aback by my little monologue. I didn't mean to do this but I feel bad. She sits silent, thought evident in her face. I try to hide my shaking hands in my lap.

"Oh." Was the first thing she said. My heartbeat didn't slow. She let's out a breath. "I just don't know what to say" she admits.

"You don't have to say anything. I just wanted to tell you myself that Jaime isn't lying, he's telling the truth and you shouldn't get mad at him"

"Well... I guess I believe you. I mean, I guess I did overreact a bit. But thank you" Jess smiles. She seems genuine at this point. I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding.

"It's okay. We're okay here, right?" I laugh just a little.

"Yeah" just laughs too. I put my hand out to shake hers but she hugs me instead. She took me by surprise but I hugged back.

"Good, because next time the guys and I go out, you're coming with, no excuses"

I leave the house, waving to Jess as I leave the driveway. But on the way home, I couldn't help but think that Jess was lying for some reason. I mean, she seemed genuine but I've met people who can hide things very well. Could she be faking it? Did she really believe me and are we okay? I just don't know, but I just suppress my suspicion and smile that I have settled any misunderstandings and confusion. Hopefully now I won't have a sad Jaime walk into my studio now.

Speaking of Jaime, I should probably message him about what happened, unless he's already home and heard it from Jess. Oh well. I got home and messaged him.

To Jaime; so I visited Jess...

From Jaime; I'm so glad you guys made up.

To Jaime; you're home aren't you.

From Jaime; yep. Jess told me, but I wanna hear your side of the story too.

To Jaime; can I tell you tomorrow, I need to cook dinner and go to bed.

From Jaime; sure thing. See you tomorrow

To Jaime; cool. I better see a happy Jaime my studio tomorrow :)

He sent back a smiley face emoticon. Let's hope tomorrow is a better day.
