Terrible Things

I woke up to all these bright lights and the whirring of machines. I tried sitting up only to be greeted by a sharp pain in my neck. I looked around. It looked like I was in a hospital. I was going to try sitting up again when a nurse walked in.
"What's going on?" I asked her.
"According to your friend that brought you here, you were beaten by somebody named Spenser I believe." She started taking my blood pressure and whatnot. The memories of last night started coming back to me. Me falling asleep, waking up to someone banging on the door, then being beaten senseless by him. A tear rolled down my cheek as the nurse walked out. I was going to turn on the TV but Jessie burst into the room. She hugged me tightly yet carefully so she wouldn't hurt me. I realised she was sobbing. I hugged her back and started crying as well.
After we calmed down, we started talking.
"I..I..I didn't know what to do.." She stuttered when I asked her what happened. "I just came back for my wallet and I saw that..that prick beating you" another tear rolled down her cheek.
"It's okay now. I'm fine." I said as I gently rubbed her hand with my thumb. I picked up the remote and turned on the TV. The news channel was on. Jessie looked at the TV. They were covering a car crash that had happened last night. "Hey.." Jessie said. "That car looks like Sp-" she was cut off by the voice of the newscaster. "Spenser Smith was found dead last night after the police believe was intoxicated driving. He crashed into a tree on the side of Burry Drive." Jessie gasped and I put a hand over my mouth. Spenser may have been a douche, but I still loved him...
