Curtains Close; Take a bow. I think we fooled all of them now.
Chapter 56 - A Dedication To The End Of Everything
Oli's POV
I had assumed we would never find out about what Danny had said to Anthony that night. His car had disappeared and Danny had begun to blank us out. Both me and Rain had tried, begged for an answer from him. What had he said? Where had Anthony gone? What had happened to their love?
Hanley stumbled over the edge of the rug and tumbled down onto the wood floor. He let out a tiny gasp and I instantly got up to check on him. He had just learnt to walk. Well, he could take about five steps to 'Mummy' and then fall down again. It was cute though, and he wasn't going to give up anytime soon.
I picked Hanley up and sat him in my lap. He had teared up in frustration of falling down yet again, but was giggling now, glad to have my attention. Rain waddled over and brought him some mushy apricot paste in a little plastic bowl with a baby spoon. She put it on the ground next to me and sat herself in front of Hanley who was rolling around on the rug between my legs.
"You checked up on Danny lately?" She asked me, patting Hanley on the head.
"Is he still blanking you?" I paused and watched her nod to me with a sigh. "It's been two weeks since Anthony left. Someone needs to talk to him, find out what actually happened that night."
Rain agreed with me. She started to feed the paste to Hanley, watching his face pucker under the sweetness.
She laughed gently. "I can hardly understand why babies eat this... gross stuff."
I stood up and gently nudged Hanley forward into Rains lap. "There. You feed him. I'm going to talk to Danny."
Hanley watched me walk away and lowered his eyebrows. He had grown fond of me, and didn't like it when I had to leave him, even if Rain was there. I walked across the creaking floorboards and over to Danny's bedroom. I knocked once. Then twice. Then three times. No response.
Danny swung open the door and made me jump.
"What!?" He shouted.
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay. You wanna drive into town tonight, go to a pub or something? Cheer you up."
He starred at me like I had stabbed him in the chest. He slowly started to close the door on me, saying nothing. I slammed my foot beside the door frame, stopping the door from shutting.
"Come on, mate. Just talk to me. Otherwise there's going to be some bloody problems." I said angrily.
Danny hesitated. "Fine. Take me out tonight. Go for it. I'll be ready at seven." The door slammed in my face.
I sighed under my breath and pouted, still confused on why he was so upset. Rain was standing behind me, I could feel her breath on my neck.
She wrapped her arms around my waist and pulled herself close against my back. "Babe?" She whispered.
"Yeah?"
"I think Hanley is sick."
