Fresh Start Fever

You Don't Need Me

Leilani's POV:

I rolled over awakening from my usual nightmare and reached out for my watch on the beside table. Nine o'clock. I hastily rolled out of bed and hurried to the bathroom for a hot, long shower. After half an hour I jumped out and scurried back to my room to get ready. Looking in the mirror and thinking about seeing Mrs. Lyell today I decided on a more mature look.

I plugged in the hair dryer letting the warm air naturally straighten the wet mess my hair now was. After pulling my paddle brush through my thick hair one last time I pulled it into a tight pony tail and secured it with a thin black hair tie and bobby pinned any loose strands. I kept my make up simple today only applying foundation, powder, blush and mascara.

I sighed turning to my cupboard and pulling out the grey, tight, knee length dress skirt, matching jacket and black dress shirt and slipped it on, pulling my long chain around my neck afterwards. I looked back down at my watch. Quarter past ten. Better make a move on I thought to myself while slipping my feet into to some black heels and grabbing my keys.

After making my way into the city I found myself back at the coffee shop, of course. I jumped in line and it made me remember that I had arranged to meet with Austin today in this very shop. Shoot, he's going to think I stood him up. I was so distracted in my thoughts I didn't noticed it was my turn to order.

"Excuse me Miss can I take your order please?" I mouthed sorry and stepped forward to the counter.

"Just a regular flat white please, two sugars with milk," I smiled politely as he entered my order into the computer.

"Is that all today?"

"No, well yes but can I ask you something?" His eyes studied me confused.

"Will you still be here at twelve today?" he nodded, "I'm supposed to be meeting a friend here at that time but something has come up and I can't make it, if you see him could you please inform him?"

"Can't you like text him or something?" he scoffed rudely.

"Well I would but I don't have a phone, just look out for a really tall guy, dark hair, brown eyes and tattoos everywhere. Thanks," I smiled not so politely this time he just nodded. I handed him a five dollar note, "Keep the change," I scoffed as I went to wait for my order by the other side of the register. After a few minutes my order number was called, I collected my coffee and made my way to Mrs. Lyell's office.

Austin's POV:

I hadn't spoken to the boys since I made a rude exit after watching the news last night but I couldn't ignore them forever. Mostly because I had to leave the hotel to make my way to meet with Leilani so I had to face them some time. I sighed resting my forehead on the back of my door before I turned the handle and made my way out to the main living room. Immediately I could hear the rumble of the TV and the boys voices crowded around it scoffing down their breakfast. I laughed at the sight and they must of heard me because they all turned.

"All dressed up mate, off to meet another sheilah?" Phil asked in the worst fake Australian accent ever. I looked down at my plain black jeans and white dress shirt that was rolled at the sleeves. I didn't think it was too dressy.

"I'd hardly call this dressed up and drop the accent," I laughed loudly, "And you've got it all wrong man, she's not just another girl..." I trailed off and they all cooed 'aww' in sync not knowing who I was going to see. I shrugged and made my way out the door and down to the coffee shop.

I'd been waiting at the coffee shop for half an hour now and there was still no sight of Leilani. Why hadn't she told me, oh yeah she lived in the stone age and didn't have a phone. I rolled my eyes, just about to walk out the door realising I'd been stood up when the cashier yelled out to me.

"Hey you! You're the guy I've been supposed to be looking for," I turned and looked at him confused pointing at myself to make sure he was talking to me and he nodded as he continued to talk, "A pretty girl game in here earlier, blue hair wearing a suit in a real big rush, she told me to keep an eye out for you and let you know she's really sorry but something important came up," I sighed and thanked him and headed out the door. I decided not to go back to the hotel straight away it'd be too obvious that I was stood up.

Leilani's POV:

I was early to my appointment not that early and Mrs. Lyell came out right on time this time and ushered me into her office. She sighed and shook her head at me looking at the computer screen that displayed last nights news report.

"You are aware that acting out like this can send you straight back in there?" she said sternly. I nodded to show her I understood, "You better have a good explanation," she cut off allowing me to fill in the blanks.

"I just broke up with Bryce and I was angry so I went to go get some coffee. When that guy started yelling out in front of everyone that I was on TV and that I was in prison and then he went to bring up what happened I just decided I didn't want to be reminded of Cole so I snapped. I didn't even know what I was doing, I sort of blacked out, and when I noticed I left straight away. The other guy I grabbed, I wouldn't have but he pulled on my arm it was just a reflex," I sighed thinking about Austin, "I suppose you can take the girl out of the prison but you can't take the prison out of the girl," I finished with a joke trying to lighten the mood but it didn't work she just shook her head.

"This is no time for jokes Leilani. Now you're lucky, I'll let you off with a warning this time but not again. I know you had to be paranoid while you were in Wacol but you're not there anymore, you need to relax. If you'd like I can arrange a counsellor for you?" I shuttered at the name of the prison.

"No, no I don't need one. Thank you so much, I'll try. I'll try to get better," I smilied and suddenly I though of Dee and my promise to not go back and after just three days I was almost thrown back in. "How's Deeanne going?" she looked at me surprised I'd even bought her up.

"Good, she's looking at appealing for parole next month," my smile touched my ears I was proud of Dee.

"Uh is there any way I can contact her?" I stuttered.

"I'll arrange for you to be added to her call list, I'll inform your Father when you can contact her," I thanked her and made my way out of the office.

I was rushing back to my car after meeting with my parole office when I walked by Hype DC, stopping in my tracks as the wall of shoes caught my attention. I walked into the store and immediately the black, washed denim Converses with the zipper down the side caught my attention. I picked them up to look at the price beneath them on the sole. $119.99. I sighed and put them back down about to walk out the store when the sales assistant asked me if I would like to try the shoes on.

"Oh no it's okay, I'd only fall in love with them and get upset because I can't afford them," I laughed.

"Story of my life," she laughed with me. I was shocked by the voice that erupted from behind me and spun to see Austin, a sad smile on his face, looking down at me.

"I'll pay for them, you deserve something nice," it was almost a whisper and I shook my head in disagreement, I didn't deserve anything especially not his money.

"I can't let you do that Austin, I don't deser-" he cut me off.

"Yes you do, I saw you on the news last night," she turned away ashamed of herself but I pulled her back to face me, "It explained why you could hold your own against me. The news always twists things, I can tell you're a nice girl," I held my hand up to stop him from continuing he had it all wrong.

"They didn't twist anything Austin, anything that was said was true," he shook his head but I nodded back, "Now listen to me when I say you are better off without me, forget about sushi and buying me shoes, forget about me and go find another girl. I'm sure there a plenty that would like to be bothered by you," he was hurt by my words but I didn't take a second look back when I turned away to make my way home.
