Fresh Start Fever

The News

Austin's POV:

This just keeps getting stranger. How in the world could she listen to my bands music but not recognise me? I looked down at her petite frame, he hair was frazzled from when she ran into me. I reached my hand out toward her face and she flinched but I continued anyway, pushing the hair from out of her face behind her ear. She looked down and stared at the ground. This time a placed a finger gently on her chin trying not to scare her this time and lifted her face up to look at me. I almost wish I hadn't because her eyes made me weak at the knees.

"How did you not know who I am?" the words came out of my mouth faster than I expected, almost like I was nervous.

"Well you see, I don't get out much so I've never been to a concert and I'd rather listen to the music, take it in, listen to every note and every beat of the drum or strum of the guitar and let the music take me to my own world not spaz out about the sexy lead singer like little girls do. I guess I've just never wondered," she said I'm sexy, I chucked. She looked up at me as I laughed wondering why.

"You just said I'm sexy?" she burst out in laughter, that hurt.

"No, no I didn't say you were, I was saying the little girls freak out about all band members but not me," oh, what the hell am I supposed to say to that? She noticed I was taken back by her comment, "Oh, uh, don't get me wrong. You're something nice to look at, a bit of eye candy, it's not like you're ugly. I don't know I just guess band guys aren't my type?" she almost said it like a question, like she was unsure herself.

"You know, I've never met a fan that's just about the music, it's weirdly reassuring that us guys are doing something right.." I trailed off thinking about what she'd just said about how I wasn't her type, "How about I make me your type?" I winked, did I really just say that. She giggled, not a 'what and idiot' giggle but an embarrassed, flirty giggle.

"You know that was the lamest pick up line ever, but sure what do guys like you like to do on a first date?" was this going to be a date, I wasn't even sure myself but she had said it.

"It worked didn't it? Oh you know the usual rock star thing, go out to a nightclub, grind on other girls in front of you, get wasted and then take you home, sleep with you and leave," I laughed but she wasn't amused. "Oh I didn't mean it seriously," she gave me a lousy half smile.

"I know, I just didn't find your joke about undermining woman so easily," her words came out harsh.

"I'm sorry let me make it up to you. Coffee date?" she laughed again.

"You know our last two encounters in the coffee shop didn't go too well, how about, I don't know sushi?" awesome idea I love sushi.

"You know any good places around here I don't?" she laughed again but for the first time giving me a smile too, a real one and although it was only small my heart started to melt. Snap out of it Austin.

"Uh yeah there's a place called sushi train just around the corner. So how do we do this, like a time and day?" I pulled my phone from my pocket and opened up my contacts and clicked on create new and handed over my phone to her. She took it looking confused but when she looked down she understood and suddenly frowned.

"I um don't have a phone..." what is with this girl? Did she live under a rock?

"Oh okay, well tomorrow at lunch, we can meet at the coffee shop and you can lead the way from there?" she smiled and nodded.

"Well I better head off I needed to get home. I'll see you tomorrow," she gave me a weak smile and turned on her heels and sped off without a goodbye.

"Bye..." I whispered watching her as she continued away, not turning back, "hmmmph," I turned around myself and started heading back to the hotel.

Leilani's POV:

I sat at home now thinking about today's events with Austin. He must be so confused the poor guy. He was kind of cute. No stop Lani, don't do this to yourself, it'll end up like Bryce, even worse. Once he leaves to go back home you'll never see him again you can barely even leave your house. Dad walked into my bedroom snapping me out of my thoughts, I looked up at him from my bed waiting for him to say something.

"You might want to turn on the news, Channel Nine," he seemed pissed off. I picked up the remote from my bed side table and switched on the TV changing the channel as I did. My eyes closed immediately ashamed of what was being broadcasted across the news.

"Why'd you attack the poor guy Leilani Isabelle Dean Bennett?" Dad never called me by my full name unless he was seriously disappointed, I let out a sigh.

"He asked if I was the girl on TV ten years ago and he was about to blurt out, loudly I might add, what I was locked up for so I shut him up, I didn't need to be reminded Dad," I sighed again looking away from him. He came and sat next to me on the bed and wrapped his arms around me.

"You can't do things like that no matter what people say, it'll get you in trouble," before he could keep going his phone started buzzing. He pulled it out from his pocket and the screen read 'Parole Officer', great.

"Hello Michelle," my Dad answered, his face dropped as I heard her faint voice mumble through the phone. "I'll let her know, she'll be there tomorrow at twelve," no, no, no not tomorrow, not at that time. He hung up the phone and looked over at me, he went to speak but I held my hand out stopping him.

"Let me guess, she seen the news report and now she wants to see me tomorrow," he nodded and I put my head down knowing this incident could just as well get me thrown back in.

Austin's POV:

I'd just gotten back to the hotel after running into, wait, she never told me her name. Damn! But before I could even contemplate everything that just happened with the strangely mesmerising girl the boys were yelling for me.

"Austin is that you? Of course it's you, we're all here and no one else has a key," it was Alan.

"Great observation dick head," I laughed.

"Hey, asshole! Anyway you've got to see this!" they were in the lounge room all huddled around the TV. I leaned on the back of the couch they were all sitting on and fixated myself on the news they were watching. I was shocked immediately by not only what I was seeing, but hearing.

The TV boomed through the room displaying the CVT footage from yesterday at the coffee shop, all of us were silent, "Yesterday at The Coffee Club in Brisbane customers were scared, literally, out of the small cafe by ex prison inmate Leilani Bennett. She was released on parole earlier the exact same day on hours before the incident happened, not exactly displayed the good behaviour she was released for, " the reporter rambled on. Prison inmate, well that explained a bit, a lot actually. All of us just stared at each other in complete shock.

"No wonder she romped your ass mate, she's been working out in the yard for the past ten years," Tino laughed but I wasn't impressed.

"What the hell could she have done?" I was talking so low that none of the boys heard me. I walked around the couch and picked up the remote of the coffee table and changed the channel abruptly. The guys all moaned.

"Come on dude, don't you want to know? We sure as hell do, it'd give us some answers," Aaron asked curiously.

"We all know what the news is like, they twist shit. I bet she's not even that fucking bad! Look at how they made me look like the bad guy when I was arrested, they didn't even explain the situation!" they all just looked at me confused and it was Alan who spoke up first.

"Someone's got a crush," he sang in an annoying tone.

"No I don't!" I spat and ran to my room slamming the door. I couldn't have made a more childish exit.
